Use a bike, hold items behind you every time, place those items in places you know the CPU's will drive through, do tricks, do shortcuts, do wheelies every chance you get, drift around all corners, if you're a heavier character than someone else...bump into them, if you have a mushroom...zoom into opponents, and don't cry when none of that still fails to work. :P
Maybe I was a lucky one, but I found 150 cc to be pretty easy. I didn't have to try them twice, I beat all of them my first try. With 1st place on all of them. Mirror is where I'm having trouble.

same here... during mirror mode I would always get second place on the last course... I always started over because I knew I wouldn't get a star ranking that way. It was a pain, but I eventually got it.
Yeah here's a tip. Try to supress your rage when you get hit with a lightning bolt, a blue shell, then a red shell when your 5ft from the finish line. In through the nose...out through the mouth.
I thought I had an idea, but then I fell off the track 3 times and still got a 3 star rating on the 100cc special cup. So I have no idea how it works. My only advice is do your best.

I think getting a star ranking is based on time and time alone. You may have fallen off in 100cc and gotten a triple star ranking, but that may not be true for 150cc. And you don't have to get first -apparently - in every race. I got 1st, 1st, 1st, and 2nd on the Mirror Banana cup and came out with a single star.

It was the other way around for me. I had a hard time with 150cc. I barely managed to get an A on some courses. I triple stared Special and Lightning cups in mirror mode. I have learned to predict Blue Shells in 150 and Mirror mode :|
