Mario and Football

Mario stars in global sports (especially ones that are big in the US and Japan)

American football doesn't fit that requirement yet.

I always wonderd the same thing. The problem with it is I cant imagine Mario and friend playing football. If you think about it, Mario and friends look like the type to play baseball, tennis, golf, soccer, basketball, and kart racing. But they dont really look like the type to play football (except for Bowser, DK, and Petey) so that could be part of the reason.

Also, football isnt a major enough sport worldwide which is the main reason.

But even if it was or did become a worldwide sport, I still wouldnt like a Mario Football because I just cant imagine Mario and friends playing it.

As others have said, American football is pretty much only big in North America. American companies are obviously fine with making games that are likely to only sell in their own region, but it'd seem kinda strange for a Japanese company to make a game that would likely not sell in its own country. Same reason why we haven't seen a Mario hockey game.

Although I must admit it would be pretty funny to watch Princess Peach sack Wario.
