Mario kart doesn't deserve to be the highest scoring ds Game

Anyone agree?

Sure the game is brilliant but the single player is very short and the online is lacking (Only 4 player and no battle mode)

I would have given it a 9.0 max and I think games such as Phantom Hourglass or TWEWTY should be the highest scoring game

Well, when Mario Kart DS came out, GameSpot was still using .1 increments instead of .5

If they still used the .1 increments we would be seeing some 9.3's and 9.4's and Mario Kart would not be the highest scoring game.

I wouldn't say Phantom Hourglass was any better though as that game is just as easy and a little on the short side.

Because it only shows game released in the past year; Mario Kart DS is somewhere over two to three years old.

Personally,I still find Mario Kart DS to be the best game on the DS.The score is fine to me.

You have to click 'of all time' for the DS, and you'll see it's the highest rated DS game next to Dual Strike (which definitely deserved its score).

Well since GS went into this new score method, no game is going to top Mario Kart, unless it gets a 9.5. I thought that TWEWY deserved a 9.5 because the game simply used the DS to its full potential and then some. It would have made a respectable #1.

Looking out on the horizon, I can't see a game scoring a 9.5 except maybe for Chrono Trigger.

like the first poster said, scores do depend on when it was released. This was one of the first WiFi games, along with being one of the first big name games (behind super mario 64). I think if this was released exactly how it is, right now, it would get between 8.5-9.0, since it has a lot more to compete with. So I think it's a pretty damn good game as being one of the first with Wi-Fi (or was it the very first??). I think it deserves it's score 100%.

I think Mario Kart DS is the best game of the series (I own every MK made except for the Wii version), and even though the online mode can be frustrating at times, it is pretty exciting noneless. ~ de arimasu

Back in 2005, it definitely deserved the score it got. We have to remember that it is very easy to look back on a game's score and think it deserved higher or lower, simply because we are comparing it to what has come out since and considering our personal experiences with the game. When the game is rated by critics, it is a new release and is compared, if compared at all, with games that have come out before it.

Back in 2005, Mario Kart DS restored my faith in the DS and is what inspired me to build my collection.

Did the game even have touch screen features? I thought it was a 8.0 - 8.5, max.Lyphe2k

Nope the only touch screen controls were changing the map and getting through menus

There are no graphical improvements no touch screen controls (I think) and I think the only improvements are things like new levels/characters etc :(

Well its the second highest scoring Mario kart game on GS and people love it because the online is amazing, there are a tonne of characters and many different tracks

According to GR its the lowest ranked MK, so it could go either way. They have way too many characters now and they're lacking variety and same goes for the items. Also I didn't like that battle was only co-op and that they took out mission mode. That really made it a multiplayer game mainly. The online is great though, but I do miss mission mode. I played it on MKDS a lot lot longer then I played MKW's online.

Edit: Getting to the topic, MKDS is definetily one of the best, not sure about best. Mission mode made it a single and multiplayer game which the series really needed. Although ya, I think TWEWY or LoZ: PH deserve that spot since they use the 2 screens and touch screen perfectly and were much more enjoyable.

And the Wii version of MK was definitely the worst for its time since MK64. IMO DS is better than all of them except Wii (but keep in mind it wasn't out back in 2005), especially considering its a handheld game. Back then, it was hailed as the 'greatest kart racer of all time, handheld or not.'

YEah battle mode sucked on the wii version :(

I still think it's a great game for the DS. However, I hate Nintendo(sometimes). There STILL selling the game at it's launch price(at least in the UK)GANGSTASAN

I think Dual Strike should be higher than Mario Kart for sure...there's way more content.
