Mario Kart DS is 1.78 million times better than Mario Kart Wii. MKDS has more memorable/better stages, a mission mode, a better drift system, better variety in karts, and there are not any horribly stupid items.
Neither personally. MK Wii was such a disapointment for my friends and I. We all find MKDD to be the best console MK. If you don't necesarily have friends to play with locally, I'm sure either MK will fill your needs with online play. Just the Wii version will allow for people to play locally when you want, so that right there would win me over.
It comes down to which system you play the most. Do you prefer the DS or the Wii?
The only thing I'll say is that the DS game is older, so it's possible that the online community is on the decline. If online play is important to you, I'd recommend the Wii version.
People complain about MK Wii, but I find it to be just as good as Double Dash, with the added benefit of online play. If they could get rid of the damn cloud item, this game would be nearly perfect, imo.
I prefer Mario Kart Wii myself. There are some features about it that I don't like, such as the lightning cloud item and the fact that they put in 16 stages we have already played, but it is a good game. The online is awesome, way better than the DS versions. Selecting bikes and carts is cool, it gives you a new style of play.
Mario Kart DS because it is a game that requires more skill than Mario Kart Wii. The only thing I liked about Mario Kart Wii was the online but Mario Kart DS had a mission mode,create your own emblem and better tracks as well.
Mario Kart Wii isn't even close to being as good or memorable as Mario Kart DS. I never play Mario Kart Wii but I used too and still play Mario Kart DS. It was my favorite DS game.
Id say Mario Kart Ds, IMO it is the best mario kart game since Mario kart 64. Mario kart wii was good but it had a few problems, far too many annoying items that affect everyone one on the track and the battle mode was completely messed up by making it team mode only with gigantic tracks that were unnecessarily big.
