Why? Because i've never played any of the Super Smash Brothers games, and from the way everyone is getting all hyped up over it, I feel like I might find Brawl at least SOMEWHAT overrated. Mario Kart isn't AS hyped as Brawl, and I can be sure that'll be fun too.

Hmm...it seems like to me, that you're just saying Mario Kart b/c of Brawl's "over"hyped-ness? That's just stupid, trying to be different and trying to stay out of the crowd, the reason why brawl is so hyped, is because the ssb title is an amazingly good game. It's been many years since melee came out and obviously people will be hyped for a new game.
As for me, i would totally say Brawl, because Mario Kart gets boring after a while, as for brawl, you can always improve and is just an amazing game.
It's not dumb to be aware of over-hyped games. You typically never want to just jump on the bandwagon when it comes to media; just because everyone says it's good doesn't mean it actually is, or it will be to you. Personally, I think SSBB will be one of the best games on the system simply because with all it has, it seems like it can do everything except suck!
But yeah, from all accounts, it seems both will be awesome to most people. I think Brawl will have more of a replay value because of the Stage Builder, the tons of collectable trophies and stickers, the gambling/spectator mode, and the video replays.
