I was playing MK Wii last night and saw something rather shocking. I was starting a race on GCN Peach Beach, when no more than a half-second after the race starts I see not one, but two Spiny Shells soaring overhead. We're nowhere near the first set of item boxes, yet someone's already got Spiny Shells, and can apparently launch multiples of them. After 1-2 races of that, I bailed and restarted. I played for a while, then had to step away, but when I logged back in and was waiting for the next race (when you see the live feed of the group you're joining), I focused on a kart that was apparently using items at will. Spiny Shells, Stars, Gold Mushrooms, whatever ... fortunately, that player bailed (or was kicked out) before my match started, so everything was good again.

I don't mind hardly being able to win at Mario Kart online, since I play mostly for fun. However, this goes beyond that and is out and out cheating. Some questions that I think should be asked:

  1. Has anybody else seen this behavior before? If so, how have you handled it?
  2. How does one enable this?
  3. Is it somehow possible to report this to Nintendo (a la Xbox Live's "Submit a Review")?

Sounds like I handled it about as well as can be expected. Fortunately it wasn't that rampant, except for the incidents I mentioned. I was able to enjoy a large number of races that had no cheaters at all. Thanks for the input.

Every day. Last night everybody except the cheater was zapped to miniature size before the start of the race. We quit the race and waited for a new one.

The first step to cheating is to install the software which Nintendo miserably failed to block with the latest system update. Then install and run a program for cheating in Mario Kart.

Nintendo can't do anything about the cheating. Their latest system update worked for less than 48 hours. Probably more like 24.

less than 24 hours, its a shame that the people at nintendo get paid to do this and they cant overcome some punks.

Actually the update didn't stop any cheating for those 48 hours, because you are not required to update to play online.

Any news on people getting banned from online play for cheating? I never read anything about it either.

1. Nintendo first killed my love for MK coz of bad selection of MK wii stages, and because of "randome items"

(whats random when you know by position what your gonna get??? dumb...)

and

2. i quited coz of cheaters, i tried changing groups etc, it goes fine a race or two and again a cheater.

and

3, i hope that a mario kard GC wii make comes out with a online mode and without cheaters...

Your not alone I saw someone have unlimited items of choice when playing on Rainbow Road and everytime you went into first place he launched a Blue Shell at you. I just quit after the race. I just find it sad that people would cheat just to win it spoils it.

this has been going on for over a year, it's bad. If you play alot you'll run into them everywhere. it makes getting 9999 very frustrating. that 4.2 update isn't so bad is it?

i have consistently run into hackers during most of my online gaming ranging from mario kart to medal of honor heroes 2. i'll have to admit it really ruins the game experience for me and makes me want to play less. i don't see the reason why people are so intent on cheating to win. it's kind of likecodes such asinvincibility. it takes the fun out of the game. i wish there was something that could be done, but no matter what they put in place to stop hackers they always find a way around it.

they do not do it so they can win, they do it so you cannot. sad isn't it. how would choosable servers/lobbies help? they'd be after anyone they can get.

Mario Kart Wii is hacker infested. It's nothing new...-- One of the reasons why I don't play it much anymore.

I only ever raced hackers once, but that was in September of last year. The hackers I raced used infinite blue shells and bombs and I could only get 3rd place or lower when I raced these hackers. The bombs and infinite blue shells were only used if you got anywhere near third place. I also have Sonic and Sega All-Star Racing and I only seen hacked times on the leaderboards, but no cheaters in the races.
