Seriously, I owned, loved and beat mario kart 64 too many times to count. I haven't played a mario kart game since...other then re-visiting the best one(mario kart snes). This latest version is GARBAGE.

EVERY time I'm in first place on the last lap I get nailed by a blue shell right at the finish line and end up in second place. I seriously count down in my head and I've been bang on so far. The rubber banding isn't as bad as I had heard before. But the ai is crap. If you're on the last lap in first place, you're gonna get nailed by everything the ai can possably throw at you.

Well I guess I'll try the conduit and see if that game can change my mind about my wii. So far it has 1 good game. Super Mario Galaxy. I'm also aquiring LKS. But given how crappy the rest of the library has been, I'm not too hopeful.

The Conduit isn't going to change your mind because that can also feel extremely cheap. Mario Kart is fine to me. Now Wii Sports Basketball is something that is very cheap.

I personally like the frustrating AI because it gives me a sense of challenge. My strategy is stay in second, until you see the opurtunity to pass into first place. This way you don't get bombarded by blue shells. Also the game has time trials, if you find the game to tough, then test out your skill on that.

I think Mario Kart Wii is a little too luck-based then skill. Its a lot of fun with 4 people or even online but I never expect to win just because of how random the gameplay is.

While the items in MKwii leave a lot to be desired, the online play onlone to me makes MKwii the best MK yet.

MK standing for Mario Kart...not Mortal Kombat of course. :P

Mario Kart 64 was MUCH cheaper than Mario Kart Wii. The difference is that in MKWii, you're not always the beneficiary. In MK64, as the human player, you'd always get the good weapons to catch up while the AI would rarely get them. The AI is lightyears ahead in MKWii. And this "rubber-banding" can happen to you as the human player too... How many times have you gotten ahead and then lagged behind and caught back up? That's the nature of a weapons-based racing game.

This ^ All of the other Mario Kart games, once I got good I would never lose. That makes the game boring.

MK Wii is a constant change between pwning and getting owned, which constantly bring me back to it:D

My own personal opinion...At least I give the games a chance. And Mario Galaxy is easily one of the best experiences I've had this gen. MG2 and the 4 player Mario are on my list of must haves as well as zelda wii.

I know that I also benefit from the rubber banding. I had just heard that the ai got it extra for whatever reason. But I tend to stay in first most of the race regardless of it.

Also I went online and did a baloon battle and it seemed like my red shells were just bouncing off the opponents. I had 3 sheels and drove into someone and he just drove away, while taking 2 of my shells. Is there some kind of cheat? I don't want to know it...I just want to know of it.

That's not what I mean. Basically I think the rubber-banding is just an illusion. Unlike MK64, I think the AI in MKWii actually uses items to catch up rather than simply getting ridiculous stat boosts when they're behind. That's why it's possible for the human player to do the same thing, because we have the same items available to use.

Read this if you're interested. I spent a lot of time with the MK games last year. Each one has been better than its predecessor in my opinion.

The Item you recieve in MK games have always been based off your position in the pack. First place will net you bananna, mushrooms, etc. While last place will get you the funner things, triple shells, blue shells, lightning, etc.

In NO mario Kart game have I been guaranteed to hit the guy in 1st place with a blue shell. While in MKWii, I am %100 guaranteed to be hit by AT LEAST 1 per round. They cheapened the AI, they didn't make it better.

First of all, I have to correct you, someone in first place does NOT geta mushroom. I am starting to question your 'experience' with MKWii. Second, I like how the items try to balance the field, like I said earlier It gives off a sense of challenge. Third, the gameplay, graphics, multiplayer, depth and online components of the game are amazing and I find it hard for anyone toharshly critisize the game. But you are open to you own opinion :P

Of course placement determines the weapons you get. But play MK64 again. You'll get stars and lightning galore in second and third place. That doesn't happen in MKWii. Also, the blue shell was EXTREMELY rare in MK64 to the point of being practically useless. They fixed that in Double Dash, where it was actually useful to some people (though usually not to the person who used it.... It's more useful to those right behind the leader).

Remember, there are four more players on the course in MKWii, which allows for four more weapons to be in use at a time, and four more players added to the back of the pack to use the big weapons. If MKWii had the same AI as MK64, the game would be completely broken, especially online.

Since this game takes place in a fantasy, and wacky world, people should not take it seriously and expect to win everytime. In fact, I often take enjoyment of the unpredictability of the races. Mario Kart is no typical kart racing game.

And one thing: anyone who is leading in a race is asking to be hit by a spiny shell.

It's not the game's fault. The problem is that you're just not good at the game.

Either hover in the pack (2nd-5th place) and make your move at the end, or learn to drive properly and a blue shell won't be a problem when it hits (you'll be so far ahead that it won't matter).

In other words, you're doing it wrong.

So.........despite some people being good at racing games and at time trials ect., they don't know what their doing in MKWii because they should not be in first most of race until the end unless they are confident they can get very far ahead to compensate for the Blue Shells? What if they get hit by 5? No excuses, right?

Don't buy it. MKWii's item's and distribution are very flawed. The only way you can really enjoy this game is if you accept the fact it's flawed and enjoy as is.

Exactly, blue shells often aren't a big deal. (though I still think they're a bad idea)

Also, a couple of times I have boosted at just the right time and avoided them.

There are a lot of cheap shots in MKWii but I feel like no one acknowledges that MKDS was as bad if not worse when it came to blue shells. I picked up DS after playing Wii a while and I noticed that there were a lot more blue shells hitting me. People probably didn't *ahem* complain about it because of the fact they could snake or use any other form of cheap driving to make up for the lost time. In MKWii, since there are 12 players instead of 8, that's 4 more people that could be getting one. Which would explain a couple blue shells from here to there...

Yeah, I heard of people dodging them with a shroom in the mkwii forum, but I have never done that myself. Must feel pretty awesome after pulling that off.

Well, I dont think Marrio Kart for the Wii is cheap. Its true that when you are first place, the AI is going to try to hit you with everything, but that's just the price of been the 1st. Is frustrating when you lose next to the finish line, but the game its not only about trowing item to the others, good players know how to avoid item attacks. And you can never expext a game to remain the same, dont judge the game for what is was back on the N64, judge it for what it is now. I think this game is awesome, love the wii wheel control and the Wi-fi challenge.

Avoid them by using a Shroom?? wow, now that I think of it... it is possible with the right timming..... I definitely need to try it. And its true, I've been hit by a blue shell like 6 times in the same race, but having a mayor lead, so, I still finish 1st. The way to get distance? well, I think the Ai dont use shortcuts, so, thats a way. Againts other players, it depends, if you know the track, you know the proper place to boost, to drift, bla bla, its just practice.if they know the shortcut, thats when the experience comes to play lol

Yeah, it sucks getting hit by a snitch or a bludger right before you hit the finish line. However, when racing versus AI, I usually stay so far ahead that it doesn't affect me.

Plus, I beat one of my siblings cause she got hit by a snitch right before the line :P

I agree that MKW has gotten really cheap with its weapons. I wish they also allowed you to play actual raceswithout items other than three mushrooms to start with like in time trial.

I think Mario Kart Wii is a little too luck-based then skill. Its a lot of fun with 4 people or even online but I never expect to win just because of how random the gameplay is.

i expect to win in mario kart to keep my ranking. And i will normally do so.Except against really high level pros, then well who knows. But against the average player or the computer?(blue shells and red shells dont change this).Once you get mildly good, blue shells will be meaningless. When you get really good, Blue shells will mean nothing.

little king story is a brilliant game so is mario kart wii, it's a bit better when your playing with friends or on time trials (the time trials are actually really addictive if your trying to beat the nintendo scores, or the rival scores) and there are a lot of great games on wii like metroid prime 3, zelda, okami, and a whole host of other ones

Mario Kart Wii isn't cheap by any means. Sure, you're going to get hit by a bunch of items, but the more I got hit, the more I learned how to avoid them. Spiny shells are hardly a problem for me because I'm so far ahead of the race that they won't slow me down. Other than using mushrooms to avoid them, I can blast off in a cannon to avoid Spiny Shells and Lighting. Red shells give me more trouble than anything, but all I have to do is use a banana or two for the shell to hit it. There's all kinds of ways to dodge items, you'll just have to play more to learn.

By the way, I played MK64 on it's anniversary date a year ago. I loved the game back then, but now I could barely stay on the track!

If you're good enough and can get far enough ahead blue shells do nothing to your placement. Should've gave the game more time and tried it out with friends and online.

I understand your frustration, but I really think that's the nature of the game. I love MK but I play it knowing this will happen a lot. I know there are a lot hardcore players with even better techniques and scores than me, but neverthless, I managed to get, at least, a star in each cup, and to unlock all the staff ghosts. So my guess is that everyone can pull some achievements and have fun in the making if they persist enough I recommend you to play MK Wii a lot more, and use it to learn to manage your anger or frustration. The moment you start enjoying how the CPU tries to stop you desperatily and you're still having fun, you'll have learned a great deal ;-)
