I wanted to see everyones opinions on the Wii mario kart VS the past mario karts. It would be really cool to see bullet points of pros and cons from everyone with Mario Kart Wii. I am watching a rather funny and vulgar review right now on youtube :P.

I think it's better than all of them except for the original Mario Kart, which still has a charm of its own (and a jump feather). It's far better than Double Dash, which had mediocre to awful track design and a gimmicky main concept that didn't really make the core Mario Kart racing any more interesting. It's also better than Mario Kart 64, which while gifted with great tracks and a fantastic four player battle mode was otherwise kind of slow and plodding. And it's better than the handheld ones, which are saddled with handheld controls.

Hmm I was watching some gameplay and the controls look super slidey and easy to go around turns without drifting. I have not yet played the Wii one though. The DS one is my favorite personally.

Best MK multiplayer wise due to the near flawless online.

Single player though I'd say it's not even close, and overall I'd put MKDS above it due to mission mode which made single player sooooooooooooo awesome and my favorite MK in that department, and I was real letdown when MKW didn't have mission mode after DS did.

Overall though it's real hard for me to choose a favorite, but I'd say it's pretty much around the same quality as all the other MKs.

I'd probably put it a little above them all though, gotta also give a shout out to the tracks, only MK to have tracks on par with the ones in MK64 which imo has the best, and I really loved this.

So I'd say it's one of the best ones, though where to put it is hard to say.

It's ok but it needs more stages and more diverse stages. Nintendo needs to remake Super Mario Kart cell shaded preferably and keep everything the same (speed and such) but make more multiplayer battle stages. I would say add online play but it already had a for of network play through the XBand peripheral. I guess add a more updated online would be better.

The more I play it the more I enjoy it. I use to curse it at the start and blame everything on "out-of-my-control-awful-luck" but i've since seen just how much finnicky skill-ful manuevers play in. I beleive it to be the best, well polished entry into the MK series and I definately do love it but at the time of Mario Kart 64 being new, I was more into that at the time than I was into the Wii version. Liked but not loved the snes version and thought the cube version was fairly stupid.

Mario Kart Wii has the best handling IMO, and my router is actually compatible with my wii, so online is a no brainer. Mario Kart DS had the most features.

I've played and owned them all but the GBA one. My favorite is the Wii one followed by the DS one, with the N64 one being the worst. Playing the Wii version with with tilt steering and the amazing online makes Mario Kart Wii one of my favorite games ever. I don't really think Super Mario Kart or Mario Kart 64 held up very well, but the SNES version is saved on pure nostalgia. I actually enjoyed Double Dash and kind of liked the 2 people in kart thing. It allowed you to hold 2 items that could be switched out strategically and made for some cool COop play.

Mario Kart DS > Mario Kart DD > Mario Kart Wii > Mario Kart 64 > Mario Kart (N/A) Mario Kart SC

I don't really like a lot of the changes they made with Mario Kart Wii, or any of the new characters they added, or even most of the stages. Online is what saves it for me.

I place it about 3rd behind the one on the DS and the original but the online is very fun and addictive.

I have no complains about MKW, it is my ideal of what a Mario Kart game should be. Followed by MK64, then SMK.

That would be terrible. The gameplay of the original doesn't really hold up to what we have today. It was fun and original at the time, but the genre has gotten so much better over the years in pretty much every area.

I did a bunch of blog entries back when the Wii version first came out because I was kind of annoyed with the complaints people were making about it. I replayed all of the Mario Kart games except the DS one (just never got around to writing up the entry) and never did a conclusion, but give it a read if you're interested.

Thats great that you think that and you have your opinion but I think Super Mario Kart was by far the best. Then Super Circuit. A super Mario Kart remake would be freakin' epic in my book. Just like a Uniracers, Stunt Race fx and Kirby's dream course remake or sequel.

Huh. If I played each of them TODAY I would rate them

Mario Kart DS (DS) > Mario Kart 64 (N64) > Mario Kart DD (GCN) > Super Mario Kart (SNES) > Super Circuit (GBA)

I have yet to play the Wii one, but DS is without a doubt my favorite one. I picked 64 over DD only because I like it more, but DD has its own appeal. It is fun in a party or something. SNES I am sure is still good for what it is, but elevation and such in maps matter so much, and without all that cool stuff I think it suffers. I remember HATING SC on the GBA lol. Oh and btw in Super Mario Kart finding a lightning bolt was like winning the lottery lol.

That's the main complaint that spurred me to write all of those blog entries. The weapons in MKWii are by far the LEAST unbalanced of any in the series. I think when people say the weapons are unbalanced, they mean that the weapons aren't balanced in their favor any more. The weapons are much more balanced in the sense that everyone, humans and AI, all play under the same set of rules. All of the older games give a significant advantage to the human player. Because of the online mode in the Wii version, they had to change the weapon system to accommodate all human players. The result is that instead of just YOU having the ability to catch up when you're behind, EVERY racer has that same ability.

Also, the complaints about getting barraged by weapons just before the finish line don't make sense to me. I've had that happen to me maybe once or twice. If you're good enough to get far ahead, you won't get barraged by anything, and even if you DO get hit by several weapons, your lead protects you.

And to those who say SMK is the best... read my blog entry about it, or go back and play it again. I was surprised by how terrible it was when I went back to play it for that blog series because I remember loving it so much back in the day. You should read the Super Circuit entry, too, because I think the people who complain so much about the Wii version should LOVE Super Circuit. Yet it's usually ranked last on people's lists.....

Haha well every mario kart has put the player in first at most risk, but if its not absolutely awful in this game and far worse than the others thats a good sign. As for SC, yeah the maps just drive me crazy. They are like Super Mario Kart's maps but not fun :P.

Its been awhile. All I remember is tracks that made me mad, like the one with the blimp in the sky and its cloudy and theres rain puddles. It was not fun in anyway, it was just boring and frustrating lol. I borrowed the game....idk how many years ago and I hated it :P.

I think it's the best by far. Only DS comes close. In terms of single player content, it destroys every other home console Mario Kart out there, if only because you can create your custom tournaments. Then there's a very broad and diverse selection of vehicles and characters, as well as 32 tracks, 16 of which new. Then there's the online mode, which is one of the best, if not the best online modes in any Wii game. You can even go online with another local player using splitscreen.

And most important of all,I found the driving itself to be really fun. It might not be as complicated as Double Dash in terms of drifting, but that stuff was wrecking my thumb and I eventually grew very tired of it. Besides, the bike wheelies added a new element to the racing, and timing them properly was actually essential in getting good times.

All in all it just blows all Mario Karts away for me. Double Dash suffered from a severe lack of single player content andMario Kart 64 just had plain bad driving. MKDS holds its ground, but in the end it loses due to its flawed online mode, and I didn't really like the driving in it.

Hmmm I take your opinion with a lot of value being a fellow PC gamer and sharing many of my opinions ;). I have yet to play it, but my buddy who also loves MKDS said it just feels weird and he didnt like it. I dont want to buy the game if no one will play it with me lol, but I might get it for parties and some single player online fun. Oh can you go online with a buddy from the same TV?

i think the snes mario kart takes the most skill.. power sliding and turning corners perfectly is hard as hell... i still havent mastered it.
battle mode was epic addition to the kart series,

mario 64 was awesome... racing was up to who could power slide the best and not fall off the map or hit obstacles..
battle mode.... 4 player split screen.. i had many fun times.. i have seen people that are better than me and im impressed on how good you can be. my fav mode in the 64.

double dash and ds i never played.

mario kart wii.. oh god.. this game frustrates the hell out of me..and i dont really like playing it anymore for that reason.. i think the best i got was 7900vr..
people just smacking me left and right... the only way to be far ahead of the pack like some people say is to choose a bike.
blue shells...THIS is what ruins the game... oh and bullet bills are for newbs.
battle mode...hmmm its ok but i never know where im getting hit from..its ok though,,although hackers killed battlemode for me.

i use the wii one for family play because the wheel is awesome... however i myself dont enjoy it anymore because of the frustration...i have 190 hours logged into mario kart wii.

so 64>snes>wii

No. I hate using a bike. I almost invariably use Yoshi with a standard kart and I do fine online. Occasionally I'll come across someone who's REALLY good and gets way far ahead, but I generally finish in the top three. The skills you need are pretty equally distributed between smart weapon use (both defensively and offensively) and good drifting skills.

Lets take a look at a comparison of the DS one and the Wii one. -DS one has mission mode, Wii does not. -DS one has a few karts PER CHARACTER to unlock, the wii one has characters sharing karts. -DS one doesn't have a silly weight system which determines the carts you can choose, the wii one does -The DS battle system is good, the wii one is terrible -both online modes are filled with cheaters -DS uses its features in a cool way, the wii one has waggle The wii one really only has graphics on its side... that and its not double dash...

I like the original (Super) Mario Kart best. But I have to say I'm not a big fan of cartoony arcade racers. Still, I was quite dissapointed by Double Dash on the Cube (I expected Mario Kart for the Cube to have amazing graphics and retain the gameplay of the first two). I'm sure Mario Kart Wii is fun, but I'm not terribly interested in it. I've heard very positive things about Mario Kart DS too and I have to say that Mario Kart 3DS looks like it will be fun. But like I said, I'm not a big fan of these type of games.

I like MKWii the best. For me, the worst thing about it is that luck plays a larger role than in other versions. Also, MKWii is the most unforgiving of hitting walls or driving off the track. It's not really a minus because it rewards skilled driving, but it's a frustration at times.

Although you may be right on most of those (I love the DS one and have not played the Wii one), I have ONE problem with the DS one, which is that you are always at a disadvantage if you dont choose a fat guy. Because you can choose ANY cart for ANY character when you unlock everything. And the only difference in character choice, is that the fat guys can knock you around more. Same speed and acceleration and everything it seemed to me.

no poll?

Anyway, My vote goes to mario kart double dash!! It had the most inovative multiplayer... (we all know how the different modes worked so i dont need to explain). Even so, Mario Kart Wii had great online multiplayer. I never really enjoyed the past mario kart games as much as the new ones except mario kart DS. That is my oppinion.

Ah, the cheating AI. MK64 had some blatant AI cheating. You'd be right ahead of a CPU player, and you'd use a gold mushroom, and they'd keep pace with you.

MKWii has cheating AI too. You start a race with a good boost. You're in first place and hit the first set of goodies before anyone else. A CPU player hits the goodies after you do, but their red shell is immediately available to shoot at you, while your item is still spinning around.

The Wii version was better than the gc version and the n64....but there's no way mario kart wii will match the nostalgia of the n64, not from me.

That nostalgia was ruined for me the moment I played it on the VC. That game did not age well. It looks terrible and controls bad. That's why I haven't downloaded the SNES version as I don't want the memories ruined.

Good idea. I did the same thing with MK64 and eventually with SMK. The memories are great but those games aren't really worth playing at this point, unless you have a few friends and play MK64 just for the fun of it. But if you have the Wii version, that's way more fun anyway.

For me personally, MK64 > MKWii > MK DS > MK Super Circuit > Super Mario Kart > Double Dash.

Just according to my own taste, I prefer the controls, look, track design, art design, music and kart simplicity of MK64. I still use that as my single player Mario Kart game, the Wii game is great online although I wish people didn't just pick the same old tracks every time (I hate Mushroom Gorge and it seems to appear once every 5 races!). MK Wii is great and so is MK DS, but I hate waggle boost in MK DS and I'm not a particularly big fan of the wide variety of karts with different stats for each character in both (including bikes in MK Wii). I hate the idea that I could potentially be doing much better with some other car choice.

Super Mario Kart is still cool in it's way even if the manouvering is a bit strange, it's just it gets so brutally difficult on 150cc it was like hitting a brick wall that I doubt I'd ever be able to get past. I have no clue how I used to be so good at it as a kid, as I'm sure I'm a lot better at games in general now. :P Being able to play those tracks on Super Circuit with nicer handling is great, and I really like a lot of the Super Circuit-specific tracks, such as the Bowsers castle ones.

It's definitely worth getting even if your friends don't have this game. I barely know any people with a Wii, and I still managed to get around 500 hour worth of gameplay out of this. It is great for offline as well as online multi- and single player. Battle mode online is especially fun, although I haven't been online with this game in a long time, so I don't know how it is now in terms of activity and hackers. Anyway, if you do end up getting it eventually, drop me a line and maybe we could race sometime. I used to be godly at this game, but I haven't practised in a long time so who knows what might happen. ;)

And yes, you can go online with a friend who's sitting next to you on the couch.

MKDS > MKSC > MK64 > MKWii and I hope that MK3DS takes the top spot when I get it. Mario Kart is better on handhelds imo. MKWii is at the bottom because I hate how they tried to "even the playing field." Like with Melee/Brawl, I thought the newer version would just polish the older game, but instead it was ruined by the developers breaking part of the game.
