I thought the steering on the Wii Wheel was horrible because if I turn the wheel just a tiny bit, my player goes completly off the track! (Almost every time BTW) I used to get 1st place almost all the time in the N64, NGC, and DS versions, but now I only get in 10th, 11th, and 12th! Does anyone else have this problem?

Your probably using a kart that has a high handling stat. Switch karts.

The wii wheel has a turn radius of 10 o'clock-2 o'clock.

I haven't had that problem before sorry.

You're turning it too much, might have a kart with major handling [which makes turns more drastic].

As mentioned above, keep between 10 and 2 o'clock position and you'll have better luck.

FWIW, my VS rating is just under 7000, and I've always used the wheel. It can work great, just work with it a while, perhaps do some time trials to focus just on knowing what's too much turning for whatever kart you like to use.

had this problem when I tried the automatic mode. The power slide kicks in sometimes when you over steer, I think it's pretty responsive but I would rather use my wavebird so I don't have to learn the new controls. Can't teach this old dog new tricks I guess.

I have never even played Mario Kart Wii without the Wii Wheel. I think the wheel is perfect for the game!

I find the wiimote is vastly superior to the GC controller...

Now, on automatic, there's some over steer. But on manual it's simply perfect.

Never. No exaggeration.

The only problem I've ever had is that sometimes I'll want to powerslide one way, but it'll start powersliding the opposite way. But in every case, this is my own fault. I'm trying to be too quick and start sliding just before the wheel is in the right position.

Bikes are harder to control than karts with the wheel, by the way. That's just how the game is made. You have to be much more gentle and precise with bikes.

In complete contrast with what you said, I feel that the Wii Wheel is what makes this one of my favorite Mario Kart games. It took a little time to get used to, but now I use it without fail. Plus, it makes the experience feel a lot more engaging than when I use a regular controller setting.

Well first off replying to this topic I started off using the wii wheel its a pretty good feature and all but now i have switched to the wiimote nunchuck combo cuz its just so much easier for me to drift and hold a drift and then pop a wheelie coming out of my drift for the greatest time that i can get and trying to do all those actions with the wheel is a little more stressful. I would not call the wii wheel terrible or horrible but i think that there are better options IMO of course. Secondly replying to the post that i have quoted i have all the hidden characters and can tell you who you are missing and how to get them you just have to tell me what weight they are. First 2 rows are light, second 2 are medium, last 2 are heavy so i am just going to say that you have a unlock a lot of expert ghosts data to get some of the characters

If you don't like the wii wheel, then don't use it. If you didn't know, you don't have to put the wii remote in the wii wheel, you can just hold the wii remote, making it more comfortable? Idk, the wii wheel is pretty cool in my opinion! But when I am online/grand prix, I use gamecube controller because it's easier.

It does make the game a bit funner although pretty challenging at first. Just give it time and you should be all right. I'm not nearly as good with the wheel than with a remote and nunchuk but considering that the game is ENTIRELY about luck with items it evens out a bit. :P

Remote and Nunchuk/GC Controller = first place easy but showered with shells :|

Wii Wheel = first place challenge but all the great items to easily catch back up :D

I thought it had an oversteer problem too, because I used the Bullet Bike, the Mach Bike and the Flame Runner. They all have good steering. Try using something like the Spear bike.

Practice! When I first laid my hands of the steering wheel peripheral, I wasn't always in first place. Here is a tip. You can hold items behind you by holding left or right on the D-pad.

I agree, I like the standard GameCube controller best. Though if you ask my sister or mom, they love the Wii Wheel, oddly enough my girlfriend likes the Wiimote + Nunchuck combo.

Nunchuck/Wiimote combo FTW in this game. Played a few races with the Wiimote sideways (without that stupid piece of plastic that people seem to think makes it better) and said "havent i already done this in Excitetruck".

Yeah I think it's prett horrible too. A lot of my friends agree. When I got it I would be playing and turn into a wall and then wouldn't be able to turn out of it. Wiimote + Nunchuck is best combination in my opinion.

I found the actual steering to be pretty precise, but I found the wiimote and nunchuck control scheme to be much better. You should try it.

I played it at Best Buy once and the wheel seemed a little unresponsive. Then again it was only for 5 minutes and I didn't know what I was doing really.

At first, it takes a while to get use to. In the other Mario Karts, I usually finish 1st or somewhere near the top. But in this version, it's alot more difficult for me. I don't even know how I'm going to finish all the Grand Prixs. Yeah, I haven't played a whole bunch, but still. I was getting whooped by my friends who don't even play mario kart. I guess it evens out the playing field a little more.
