I dont know what mario the game cube version is like or sonic so I will just speak about Mario Tennis New Play Control. You dont follow a story in this game you just play tournaments, matches and mini games. The idea is to get all the characters, courts, mini games and cups you can. You are ment to beat the tournaments with every character. In the game you can eithre play exibition, tournaments and mini games. Tournaments are quite long if you do all the cups as there are many to keep you going. Exibition is good because you do have a bit of variety in the games you play. The mini games are good enough but are only a extra but still can be fun. The courts are good because you have variety. Each court has a different effect on the bounce of the ball and its speed from weak to very strong. You have three normal courts ie. grass, clay and hard blue. The rest are gimmicked courts that have wierd effects eg. luigis mansion can cause ghosts to come onto the court and slow people down if you hit into the ghost. They only come out if you accidentaly hit your opponents panels on his side. The way to clear them is to hit a special panel on your opponents side. Another example is bowsers court were the court hangs on chains over lava and you can tip the court if you go to far to one side. the gimmicked courts can also be set to standard were you get to play the court without irregular activites. You can play ring games were you earn points by hitting the ball through rings on the net. Finally you can play with weapons were there are boxes on the net once you hit them you get a weapon next time you hit the ball the weapon goes into effect. You get special hits aswell for every character that come into effect after a bar on the top of the screen is charge an example is marios giant hammer. If all that sounds good then enjoy. I like it so I guess I would reccommend it. :)

Just because it is a port doesnt mean it bad. Its the GC game with motion controls. There might be a few more features, but IDK. Either way, $30 isnt a bad price for it, and it is the best tennis on Wii (i havent got GrandSlam yet, but will)

if thats the case i would probably go for the GC version, the motion didn't work well for me. it reminded me a little of sega superstars tennis, but its been so long since ive played that so i dont know how well my memory is serving me

I would just like to point out that some people have spoken about the sensor bar not picking up the remotes actions can be from a couple of things. The battery in the remote may be low. The sensor bar may be in a bad place and finally sometimes the sensittivity is set wrong. You are able to go to wii settings and set the sensitivity of the remote to the sensor bar. I had it set terribly once I couldnt play mario kart as the bar couldnt read the remote so all of a sudden my kart wouldnt go in my direction. Also anytime I used the cursor it would keep twitching and I couldnt click on anything. Then I finally learned to set the sensitivity in the settings.

So there is a couple reasons why the controls mightent be that easy.

I would also like to point out that sometimes people can just do the move wrong. You have to swing your arm in certain ways (explained in the game) and I had trouble until I realised the right way of doing a certain move then it was easy. You also have four different types of control settings and can use the nunchuck and remote or just the remote.

Now I realise that not everyone who says the controls are bad have to go through the mentioned issues but I can say that when I sorted them out I had no trouble (most problems wont happen to you)

Anyway hope I helped with your decision.

:)

I think the main problem I have with it is that the controls dont match up well. I play tennis in real life and the motions you have to do for backhand, lob, smash and drop shot is silly and makes no sense. You might as well play with buttons

I say yes. I never played the GC version, but I think it's a good Mario sports game that can keep you occupied for a while.

As for the controls, it's pretty responsive for me, so it could it be the same for you.
