Which franchise is better?

Tough call, but I say Zelda. I think every entry of every one of those franchise you've mentioned have been spectacular, but Zelda games are just...I can't really describe it. I just like Zelda better.
That's like asking which type of of sprinkle do you like on your cake, Jimmies, The sparkly kind, or that flat circle kind?
Each is a different topping to a great motherFINNG CAKE!
I'll Take a pound of Samus, Mario, and Link Sprinkles on MY MOTHERFIING CAKE!
[QUOTE="ZumaJones07"]Mario trumps the other guys.Jaysonguy
Yup
The other franchises aren't even in his league
It's like comparing the Yankees to the Buffalo Bisons
or pittsburgh pirates. This is an easy question for me. Mario completely trumps the other two with his fantastic games. This is mainly because I could play any one of his games forever. There is just WAY more lasting appeal to a mario game than a Zelda or Metroid.

My sentiments exactly.
[QUOTE="funsohng"]idk do we have to choose? can we just say all three?MFmotionThis
exactly. they are all tied together. if you think about it, metroid comprises of the other two; it has mario's platforms and zelda's item-hunting. it's a single evolution of thought.
none of you are even saying why. there is no discussion here. you're all just listing game titles. it's pointless.

i find myself playing zelda more!
Now that i think about it a lot of this can be different because a new Zelda game is coming out that is really deserved...mario had his time, metroid, now its zeldas turn on the wii so that can turn a lot of people towards zelda...but as for me i have been a zelda fan before a mario or metroid since OOT...Didn't matter what came out! but here is how it goes with me... Zelda>Metroid>Mario... It's so hard and even between mario and metroid but i have to admit i love the metroid prime series and metroid other m looks simply amazing! :P
I've never been a big fan of Zelda, and always loved Mario games, and just got into Metroid, so...
Mario>Metroid>Zelda
Man... that's a tough one. They are three totally different games. Totally different experiences. You can't really compare them! It's like comparing cheese and larvae.
But if I had to choose... Zelda.
i'm sorry, but this thread is a perfect example of exactly what is wrong with gamespot's forums. you guys don't discuss at all. what are you learning from writing 'zelda' or 'mario'? it's completely redundant.

I agree with this guy. He has the speed booster power up from Super Metroid in his avatar so I trust him completely. That has to be the best power up in Metroid history (leads to awesome speed, epic jumps, and shine sparks) and it returns in Metroid Other M.
The reasn why Zelda did not get my pick as best of the three is in large part due to lasting appeal. These games are SUPERB when you play throught them, but after they are beat, I have very little interest in them. This is in large part due to the lack of reward I feel from collecting either rupees or heart pieces. I end up playing Zelda every once in a while (I love trying to beat them with only 3 hearts), but I play Mario constantly.
The older I got the more I prefer the Role Playing fantasy over platformer, so of course it's Legend of Zelda for me. Though when I was a child, I use to be addicted to the Super Mario Bros, but in my teen years I became addicted toLegend of Zelda series like it was crack :P.

That's kind of funny! I am the exact opposite. I started with Zelda and Earthbound thinking that nothing was better than RPG/adventure games, but as I got older, I found that platformersoffered me more exploration and wonderment somehow. I used to be addicted to Zelda, but now I play Mario far more.
I'm guessing this has something to do with Zelda's being more difficult in the past. I was young and I'm pretty sure they wereharder so it used to take me forever just to beat the story. Now I can breaze through Zeldas without much problem at all. They have become short bursts of uber quality as apposed to the constant awesome that is Super Mario.
Metroid, with out a doubt.Everything about the games just mesh together cohesively, from the atmosphere, story, graphics, sound design, everything.I'm also a huge fan of speed running and sequence breaking, and Metroid is still arguably the best speed run franchise,in terms of encouraging it and continuing it on to this day.

Ocarina of Time came out while I was a teen:|. Maybe that's true to you, but for me I find platforms to be dull & repetive compare to the Role Playing fantasygames.
