I really wish people would stop considering Mario Sports/Party games as real Mario games!!starwarsgeek112
i dont know about other people but im not i like the sport games... but im talking about the 3d/2d adventures/platformers
[QUOTE="Duckman5"]0_o. Holy crap dude, no WAY.Jaysonguy
I'll have what he's having
Mario to this day is still an industry leader and usually all other compaines follow on his heels.
No, he's not "losing his touch"
i agree with duckman5 and jaysonguy. You cant not like a mario game. Mario games always do something new and innovative. The reason its not like the zelda or metroid games is because there hasnt been as many of the which is why you feel he's losing his touch. Its not because he's actual losing his touch, its just that we all miss him jumping over stuff. Go play Galaxy and you'll really just how silly this thread is.

Have you played New Super Mario Bros for the DS? that was a good one so was Super Paper Mario (although it was kind of short)
also a word to the wise don't attack Mario in anyway or you'll get flamed:twisted:

The paper mario games arent real mario games. They are spin-off rpg games unlike SM 64, SM Sunshine, and Galaxy. Also, you have nothing to worry about when it comes to the upside down gamesply. Most of the game wont be like that and the planet hopping aspect of the game will make it feel as fresh and new as Super Mario World (my fav mario game ever, alsothe first game i ever played) and Super Mario 64.
im not really disagreeing with you guys but to me its not as good as it used to be but thats only my opinionpolishkid99
Hey no harm there, everyone is able to voice their own opinion on everything.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean others share the same thoughts and vice versa. Just because other people like it doesn't mean you'll like it.
That's the nice thing about a variety of different kinds of games, there's something for everyone

that statement is totally correct, anything can happen in mario games without the need for explanation. metroid and zelda games have a path to follow.
Come back with this question after you've played Galaxy. My guess is that you won't have the same feelings at that point, but we'll see. ;)
can anyone really get into a mario game like you can in a zelda or metroid game?.... i think mario is kinda loosing is touch and slipping away into easy gameplay and short gameplay...polishkid99
The 3D Mario games are only easier and shorter if you play them just to beat the final boss. Getting all 120 stars in Mario 64 is a challenge, and getting all 120 shines in Sunshine is extremely difficult. I've yet to do it, and I hate leaving a game unfinished. Don't use a guide and complete the games 100% and you'll see that they're much longer and much more difficult than the sidescrolling Mario games of the past.
As for your comparison to Zelda and Metroid, it's not really fair. Those two series have strong storylines to enhance the experience; Mario relies strictly on gameplay to keep your interest. The level of immersion ("getting into" the game) is inherently weaker in a game like Mario. You don't have the "what's gonna happen next?!" mentality, but rather you wonder "what will I have to do next?!" It can be just as fun, but it's a different experience altogether.
I agree with the original poster, Mario games havent been all that great since N64 era (with Super Mario 64 and Paper Mario). He just hasn't gotten a game that deserves the title. I think the series is just missing a lot of variety.
Why is it always Get this star, get this shine, etc?
Can we have like an interactive world like in SPM but in a normal mario game? Could we have more cameo's like with Wario or Waluigi?
Can we fix the camera angles in Galaxy? Sometimes they are great, but others I notice my head having to tilt so i can see straight.. I really hope there are different camera options and what not...

well said Jordan
Mario lost his touch w/ Sunshine. Sunshine shouldn't even be considered a Mario game. The team didn't even know they were working on a Mario game until a few months later into development. He was more tacked/forced on.Galaxy on the other hand is an authentic Miyamoto Mariogame. I'll take one of Miyamoto's original creations (Super Mario Bros., Mario 3, 64 and Galaxy) any day than a received sequel. (Mario World & Sunshine) Shiggy proves that you can reinvent, innovate and revolutionize without coming up with some lame water gun idea.

Not really. It just that Super Mario World was inspired by Shiggy's original creation. On a side note, I always wondered why people like World over Mario 3. What does SMW have that SMB3 doesn't8)
I think super mario is losing its touch, i think mario needs lots room to run, move, jump and all the rest and galaxy is so tight in its levels its killing mario to do his sweet wall jumps and tripple jumps Darkness-zora
Void and null. Did you see the movies and trailers? You would know better.

yoshi riding? larger and more levels? bigger over world map? a cape with flying abilities that puts the racoon suit to shame!? more replay value (through unlocking all the hidden exits)? did i mention yoshi?can anyone really get into a mario game like you can in a zelda or metroid game?.... i think mario is kinda loosing is touch and slipping away into easy gameplay and short gameplay... its not the same as it was in the past... anyone agree or disagree? please postpolishkid99
They are getting easier to you, because you are getting better. I have been playing Mario since the original. So there are points in Mario games that I can just blow through because I know what to expect, and deal with whats coming. However there were parts that still trip me up from time to time, so its not the game losing its touch you simply have improved. However I dont know how much that will hold up since, Galaxy seems to be throwing the platformer rulebook out the window. Also all of this could not be true, and simply put you may not be a fan of platformers anymore.

The hidden stages in Galaxy are *all* about the platforming. I'm hoping they'll be more difficult than the ones present in Sunshine, I like my tough-as-nails precision-jumping triple-jump platforming speed-runs.

Yeah the hidden stages are classic platforming(I am really looking foward to them), but the main stages will a new style of platforming.

Have you actually seen the game? I'm not even talking about the secret stages, I'm talking the normal stages. Do your research my friend and you will see he visits many open worlds. Like take that stage where he gets the Bee Suit it reminds me of Bomb-omb Battlefield just with waterfalls and things like that.

It is as good as any mario game I've ever played and I've played and beat them all. My least favorite has to be mario sunshine, but its not a terrible game, just not up to par with the rest. As for 2d versions, NSM is probably my favorite jusr over Mario World. as for 3d M64 was the best, until this fall, we will see if the 3d has lost its touch or not. The 2d worls is still going strong though.Phazevariance
i made i post that i beat new mario and super paper new mario was "ok" but easy and sort paper was bad and easy and short
