So im getting my pay check this week (probably about 300 dollars, im only 16 so that is a lot for me) and I was thinking of getting a Nintendo DS but what is like the selling point of this? What makes it fun?

Also if I do decide to get one what are two or three games worthy of buying right away?

I think the biggest selling point of the DS aside from its technical unique touches (touch screen, microphone etc.) is now it's incredibly diverse catalogue of games! Seriously, the sheer variety of gaming styles on offer on the DS is beginning to get a bit mind-blowing.

It's the best selling console around at the moment (including the next-gen bunch), it has been for a while and I can see it staying that way. Developers aren't going to turn their backs on it any time soon.

So basically, you've got an enormous and diverse catalogue of games, including some really unique and inventive titles which the psp and other home consoles just can't and don't cater for. I'm not bashing these other consoles by any means, but really, I'm amazed at some of the titles I've bought for the DS and got totally addicted to. It can cater for not just lots of different people, but lots of different needs for individuals.

If you've got a penchant for gaming, you won't be disappointed by the DS. Do what I did - get one and above all get ready to experiment - look around in store and online and find some truly original titles that you won't find on other consoles, do a bit of research on them (you don't want to end up buying crap) and then go for it!

If the idea of experimenting and branching out into different styles of gaming doesn't suit you, then maybe the DS isn't the best. Though it does have a good selection of hardcore genre games, its the quirky and unique titles on the DS which really provide the system with it's biggest selling point for me personally.

I'd recommend the DS to anyone..... I'm 28 and I absolutely love my DS... plan on getting a Wireless Router today, so i can go online with it.... As sad as it may sound, I kinda wanna get Pokemon DIamond/Pearl, since I've never played a Pokemon b4, but the whole idea behind it has always interested me as a gamer.   No I'm not single and living in my parents basement, just FYI.... I'm Canadian & teach English in South Korea am married and have a 3 yo son.  I tell you this, cuz i know it sounds kinda pathetic that a 28 yo, wants to play Pokemon.....

Well seeing as its your foray into the DS world, I'd recommend getting two titles which are solid games that also put the ds itself to good use.

Phoenix Wright I love to bits, its a bit heavy on the text, but the stories are involving and interesting, and you do get to use the touch screen and microphone a fair bit throughout.

That said, I also can't help but really recommend New Super Mario Bros. a thoroughly enjoyable title.

Still, I'm being a bit of a hypocrit as neither of these really show off the DS.

Nintendogs puts the DS' various features to good use, but I'm not sure whether the game appeals?

With all my rambling aside, I'm going to stick to my guns and recommend PHOENIX WRIGHT: ACE ATTORNEY and NEW SUPER MARIO BROS.

Still, go out there and have a look at what intrigues you - there is soooo much on offer!

if you want an actual handheld that plays well the ds is my first pick! If you want some thing that plays music and some mediocre (grammar) games, go Psp. Just remember that they maybe making a new psp soon with camera controll!

If you are a fan of Platformers, more particularly Mario Platformers, definately pick up "New Super Mario Bros.", and Mario Kart is good as well.....   or for RPG's, maybe FFIII, or wait for Pokemon Diamond/Pearl

Mario Kart is uber easy to get online and play with once you've set your connection up - you don't even need any friends codes if you dont mind who you play against it will automatically search the world if necessary for people currently willing to play and pit you against them.

Animal crossing really only works with friends codes, but they are easy to get, just have a look around the net and on these very forums. :)

Its the first party games. Mario Kart is awesome, one of the best in the series. mario 64 is awesome, like n64  but u can play as other characters. Metroid prime is great  cuz  it uses the touchscreen really well
