I've been thinking that perhaps after Metroid Prime and Mario Galaxy come out, the quality of the average Wii game will go way up.  Firstly, these two games are probably the only two Wii games that show that the Wii greatly surpasses the Gamecube in terms of hardware.  Both games look quite impressive and will hopefully make developers put as much attention into the graphics as Nintendo did in those games.  Also, these two games are reported to control better than any other Wii game.  Metroid Prime could show other developers how a Wii game SHOULD play.  Imagine a Red Steel that actually played well.  Mario Galaxy also makes some great uses on the Wiimote, combining classic gameplay with fun new controls.  These two games could not only be great games, but greatly inprove the overall quality of future Wii games.

Let's just hope these games sell well so they know what happens when someone actually puts effort into a Wii game.

Metroid is going to set the bar for how FPS should play on Wii, there's not doubt in my mind about that. But I don't think the quality of third party games are going to increase because of these games. I will be more because they've switched resources over to Wii and have more time to make good games.

Not really. Galaxy clearly has the best graphics, I do like SSBB artistic character models though.

If anything the high quality of the first party software discourages others from developing on the platform. It also creates a demand for Nintendo's software that takes away from a gamer's budget. Good for gamers in the short term, not necessarily the long term.

They will both set a bar for quality but will anyone try and raise it? That's what I worry about. Seems like Nintendo is the only one trying at the moment.

Yep, you're right they will set a new bar and prove Nintendo right. Gameplay is extremely important and I'm not really underwhelmed by "last-gen" graphics which means I'm ok with the Wii's graphical power. If only...Lucasarts....Star Wars.....*daydreams*...

god i hope so. it seems that no one tries at ALL for wii games. its really sort of annoying for everyone to go on about how successful the wii is, at the same time to observe how little everyone cares for it. ill bet its not even nintendos intention for either of these games to have anything to do with graphics; there just trying to make good games. i wish at least that was true for even half of the companies that are allegedly "supporting" the wii.

I heard they are making a game for the wii that focuses on lightsaber combat. Did no one hear when nintendo said wii will be more powerful than all of the last gen systems? Some people may have doubted them when they saw the first games but I still believe wii is capable of good graphics and even better gameplay. I agree this christmas will be exciting because nintendo is showing off their best franchises.

I sure hope that's true but I'd rather get a polished game than a poor effort even if it takes 2 more years. Let's hope they get it right.

Things would be a lot easier for third parties if Nintendo would release some decent middleware and make things easier for third parties if only if they stopped being so stupidly paranoid.

Microsoft and Sony, especially, move Heaven and Earth to help third parties by supporting them with development tools to make things easier. Sony during the PS2 era updated their middleware tools constantly.
