I dont think it has ever been talked about officially. The dread thing in MP corrupotion might also have been like an easter egg thing and not a hint.

I remember Nintendo denying it at some point. The Metroid Dread rumor is a lot older than MP3, Retro just used it for a little prank. But obviously, people considered it as a hint it was actually coming out.

Anyway, if we don't see a proper Metroid DS, I will be shocked.

last time i heard news was when people read the "project dread near completion" in prime 3. then they asked nintendo. heir answer:

"no 2D metroid game is being developed at this moment" (emphasis added)
