Yes, that's right. In a Gamespot video interview from E3, a Retro Studios developer let slip this comment: "We haven't revealed all of the secrets yet of the Wii version."

...No one else seems to have noticed it. Have I hit something big here, or was this just a red herring?

Dude, Nintendo pulled the plug on the Gamecube almost a month ago. They might as well make an N64 or SNES version.

I had school in the afternoon, work at night and school again in the morning all in one continuous run. I know how you feel.

How is it dead when the Wii can play the GC games? Maybe the hardware of GameCube but the software is still alive.

The likeyhood of this happening is slim to none.  The mechanics of this were designed specifically for the Wii, it would play horribly on the GC, they'd most likely have to downgrade the graphics as well.  It just doesn't make sense to do that when there are bound to be more Wii's out there than GC's by the time this game comes out.

he means that they stoped developing games for it.  Kind of like the ps1 after the ps2 came out.

how the hell does that even hint at a GC version...it hints that there are stuff which hasn't been confirmed for the Wii version yet (online etc) and also this was from june last year....

Exactly. Nintendo doesnt give a damn if people smash their gamecubes, as long as they buy wiis. And to be honest, adding gc compatibility to the wii probably wasnt that difficult. Although i appreciate it, i can still play my gc games after smashing my cube.

I really dont think they would put this game on the gamecube since it would kinda be a system seller of sorts for the Wii come summer when its supposed to come out. Zelda was a special case IMO because it was originally slated and more or less finished on the GC.

Nintendo are not making any new games for Gamecube.
When he said that, he was just referring to Metroid Prime coming to Wii for the first time.
It's the wii version of the series, so to speak.

They won't release it for the NGC maybe he was talking about an online multiplayer mode, although I don't think that it is important in a game like Metroid that has always been known because of its deep single-player adventures.

They didnt actually state that Nintendo ended the GC, just that Mario Factory did. Seeing as TP GC outsold the Wii version, there might be something to this topic. Maybe TP wasnt that last AAA title to hit the GC. I would like to see this happen, because even though I have a Wii, the GC was a great system, and I hate to see it die.
