I'm a huge fan of the Metroid series, and I absolutely loved the first "Prime," but I didn't enjoy the sequel nearly as much. I found the flaws of the first (specifically, annoying-as-all-hell eternally respawning enemies that are extremely difficult to killl) to be amplified, and the dual world setup poorly managed (when do I go there, and at what point do I enter?). So, my question to those who played both, how does 3 rate against 2? Is it as frustrating?

I love all 3 equally, with 1 a little higher than the other two; so admittedly they're really not that equal :P

dual world poorly managed? respawning only in Echoes? ugh...i wont comment.

I personally think Prime 3 is the worest in the series...but by your above comments (want an easier experience), it seems like its right down your path. get it.

I'd say my order is MP1 > MP3 > MP2 I played MP1 multiple times (like 8 :P), MP2 like twice (normal then hard), and I'm still working on MP3 (getting those battery looking things), but I can see myself playing it again... and again.

I said respawing is only in Echoes? Not even close. I said the flaws from the first [respawning enemies as the example given] were amplified in the second. Meaning, I obviously know they're in the first game.

yeah MP3 is definitely better than MP2, I've beat it twice already. I only could beat MP2 once though.

Prime 1 is first obviously. 3 has the edge over 2 because of the controls.

If you liked Prime 1 definitly get Prime 3. i actually prefered Prime 2 to 1 by a little bit. 3 is the most accesible in my opion but its not as long.

It doesn't have an ultra annoying dark world thing, so yeah, it's quite a bit better.

Its not as good as the first one (mainly because of the atmosphere, but I've only just gotten the Phazon suit thing.) I've never played the second one, but I've played a demo of it and I hated it. This one isn't that bad, but its not as good as the first.

I'd say Prime 3 is better. The difficulty in Prime 3 is lower than that of the sometimes-masochistic difficulty of Prime 2,although I'd recommend starting off with the Veteran difficulty, since Normal is a bit too easy.

3 pwns 2. It's a matter of fact. Not nearly as much backtreading and the motion-sensing is perfect.

I probably like MP2: Echoes the best out of all three. The graphics are superior for the Gamecube, and it also has great gameplay and setting, to me.

I think you are the first person I have seen agree with my thought here, I prefered the second prime to the first too :D. The third is much more accessable though, and a lot more fluid, infact the only bad thing I can say about it is that it isn't as challenging but hypermode is hardly a walk in the park :?.

Metroid Prime 3 is better in almost every single way. The one place it's not is something I'm very sad about. The suit Samus gets near the end of MP2 was the coolest costume I have ever seen and the end of the game really felt like a light vs. dark battle. MP3's final suit though, doesn't look nearly as cool.

wow, im surprised so many people consider MP2 the least enjoyable...i personally think the dark world was implemented perfectly. I got confused a few times but it wasnt frusterating, it felt as though it required more adventure aspects...which is what i loved about the first 2 Primes.

Welll, it looks like Metroid Prime 3, here I come! But I want be clear in that I really DO like Metroid Prime 2, but I found a lot of things to cross the line from hard to annoying.

How about when you kill two or three ridiculously durable enemies, go into the dark word, kill two or three more ridiculously durable enemies, then go back out that same portal, and have to fight the first guys again! No one can tell me that isn't some poor dark world/respawning management.

All three of the Prime games are excellent, and I don't find any of them particularly frustrating...except that danged spiderball boss fight in MP2....urgh, I get angry just thinking about it.

Prime 2 was the weakest of the series.

I can tell you with confidence that prime 3 is the best of the series, by far.

Definitely! MP2 had WAY too much backtracking, was frustratingly hard in some parts, and one overly complex and complicated quest towards the end. Many people might like lots of difficulty, but I just hate pushing myself too hard in any game. Also, MP3 and MP have a tendency to suprise you at certain parts, but MP2 never really had any parts like that, with the exception of the Ing Hive.

Exactly how is back tracking bad? the only way you can have a non linear metroid game is through back tracking. Guess people just like being spoon fed the game to them.

I like the backtracking in Metroid. It's always fun to get a new power and go back and try and reach items you couldn't before. But what I don't like is seeing the same enemies in the same rooms, over and over. Like I said, it wasn't as bad in the first Prime, but the brutal difficulty of the second makes it frusterating.

How about some Castlevania-style leveling to make the enemy slaying worth something???

You've barely scratched the surface then, you get the Phazon Suit at the very beginning. MP3 has a crap load of atmosphere.
