would it rock or suck?

Since the metroid series is loosely based on the Alien movies id say it would feel rather familiar and it wouldn't be to amazing as a movie, and since samus is usually on her own there wouldn't really be too much interaction between her and other characters. So id say no it wouldn't be that good of a movie but the second answer is just so hilarious i would have chosen it either way.
Well, most of the game is killing stuff, going places, finding stuff, and killing more stuff, and that would not translate well. However, I think it would be a good movie if it was only loosely based on the game.
A couple people have mentioned it, but there be zero character interaction. Unless there was jawing between Samus and enemies (which would be horrible) or like a Luminoth friend or something (which they would screw up the look of). The idea sounds cool but reality is the movie would look nothing like the game.
I think we are all forgeting about Prime 3. Also the fact that Samus Aran is a bounty hunter hired by the federation and who ever else has the cash. She could interact with the federation. There was a lot of interaction in Prime 3. There is interaction, betrayal, loyalities and if memory serves me, Samus had a hint of a love interest or at least of a friend in Fusion with Adam. I think he was that computer operator from the federation. They don't necessarily have to pick one prime game and go with it. They can combine many aspects of each game and even bring in a little humanity to Samus, while keeping her Squall-like qualities of being a loner. A big draw in could be that they hide her face until a certain part of the movie, then everyone would be like...WOOOOOOO at the hotness within.
They have plenty of options...they're just being lazy. And maybe...just maybe, the idea feels good on John Woo's butt because everyone is being a pain in the...well you know, and pusing him to crap or get of the pot. I think when it happens, well all be excited and pleased with the end result.
Yes, this film is going backwards. There used to be an entry on IMDB for "Metroid", but that has been taken down for at least a year. Usually that's pretty damning proof that it's been shelved.John Woo has been sitting on the rights since 2001.
Where's the "never see the light of day" option?

i mean if they got a hot actress to play samus i would so go see it

Well lets look at it this way, the only time Samus has been seen to take her suit of is, in Metroid Zero and at the end of most Metroid Games. So following that you would only see Samus out of suit like maybe 5-10 mins.
How can you possibly do a Metroid movie, lets look at the Metroid games. Anyone who has played them knows theres so much back tracking going on, how can that be translated into a game. It would be boring to watch, so you might say "well take that out" then its not really Metroid anymore but just another FPS really. Please dont use Resident Evil as an example as 1 was ok but 2 and 3 sucked so hard and bad.
idk, depends on how they do the story and who they cast...i could see ali larter as a good samus...or a blonde mila yovavich (sp?). and based on the little experpts from Fusion about adam, i think they could make a good or okay movie based on her working with him and stuff like that, it was only lightly touched on in the game so a movie maker can take it and ruin the hell out of it in a big way to make everyone who's never played a metroid game LOVE the movie, while metroid fans would probably despise the stupidity of it.
After the reception the Mario Bros. movie got, Nintendo shouldn't take those kinds of chances.

It wasn't Nindendo's fault, the movie makers just had no Idea of what was going on.
There was Princess Daisy in the movie instead of princess Peach.
The Goombas looked nothing like goombas.
King Koopa (Bowser) took the form of a man instead of what he really is, um....big turtle, dino, thing, .........whatever
As long as whoever is in charge of the Metroid movie actually knows the story of Metroid and has actually played some of the games it should turn out fine.
I look forward to this movie.
i dont see a good metroid movie being made. so much of the games are samus interacting with alien worlds and technology and very little is between characters (samus isnt the chatty type anyway). i suppose it could work if they made a sci-fi movie told primarily with onscreen symbolism ala 2001:a space odyssey, but good luck getting a director that can pull that off.
Why is everyone talking about like it actually exists? The Metroid Prime movie is the cinema equivalent of vaporware. ITS NOT HAPPENING IN ANY STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATION.
However, if Metroid were to work well in a cinematic format, I wouldn't do anything more than a series of 3-5 minute shorts with absolutely no dialogue. Just Samus going around, collecting and killing bosses. Something akin to the first Clone Wars cartoon, where they were just about all action and no dialogue, but had an overarcing story.

But Nintendo gave permission to make the movie and supervised it at some points.
Video game movies bomb...
I've heard rumors aboutMicheal Bay being involved in some way, but I don't want to see my favorite Nintendo francise in pain....
