Not really but it gives the game an adventure feel.

oh most definitely. you will get lost a lot. but if you get lost for a while usually a hint will pop up on the map and tell you were to go

In metroid they don't tell you what to do either but they give you a clue like: There's a problem in this zone... so you have to go to that zone and see what happens.

I've played Metroid Prime 1--it's really open-ended and involves alot of backtrackingas you get new items. I would probably recommend a guide if you're new to the series.

Wow really? I didn't need to search around as much. Then get a guide I guess.

for some games I would purchase a guide if it was really big game like TP or Oblivion. So if this game spans more then 30 hours and has alot of other things to do I would recommend it. Though personally I don't fully use strategy books. Like for Oblivion I do side quests and stuff then book mark what I have and haven't done and when I get stuck I actually got something to read a few words to guide me. And for TP well. Even if the game wasn't best in the series it was half decent and looked gewd and has alot of side quests to do so I found the collectors strat book a good purchase xP

Basically I am saying is wait till we know what the true scope of this game is and if its going to be something massive or something that you sit down with 20 hours before finishing it and then putting it away for a few months.

I'm fairly certain this going to be a long game. They are pulling out all the stops for the last of the trilogy.
