Dose anyone care that the main character is a chick ??? I dont care i think its kinda a good thing but i have some friends that i have been tryin to get them into the Metroid series but they say "No its dumb who whants to be some girl in a big space suit". You dont really every see here anyway. (There not sexist) In that case who would whant to be some big dood in a space suit (Halo) but they will play it i dont know i was wonderin if anyone else thought the same thing ???
Haha i should strap them to a chair and make em play it lol! Thats the thing i think they would probly like it if they just played it. And your right She's is one of the to few female gaming protagonists not to become oversexualized.
No at all. You're hardly even aware of the fact that Samus is female until the game's completion anyway. For better or worse (depending on point of view and perference), Nintendo has kept the gender element of Samus in Metroid to almost a bare minimum until the games' completion. I think a lot of people would actually like to know more about Samus and sees what makes her the person she is. I play Metroid because of, more than anything, I enjoy playing the games. The fact that I'm playing with a female lead doesn't bother me at all. :)
Metroid was one of the first (if not the very first) games to use a female as the main character. Of course, in the first game you didn't find that out until you beat the game. Surprise! Yeah, back then, it was a "shock ending" hehe.

To bad it's impossible to beat any Metroid game in under an hour, as far as I know. Ultamite-Ninja
The original Metroid,Metroid II,Metroid Fusion,Metroid Zero Mission,and Super Metroid can all be beaten in under an hour.None of the Prime games can be beaten in less than an hour (the closest is the record for Prime 1,1 hour and 3 minutes),however,and I doubt they will be unless some major speed tricks are found.

So wait. The fact that you are never faced with the realization that she is a girl and you can pretend she is a big buff master chief-esque protagonist makes your friends not sexist? So basically, thinking a female lead cannot get the job done so you pretend its a guy is not sexist?

There are female spartans in halo, and you can even make your spartan a female in halo3. Plus, MC wouldn't be half as effective if it wasn't for Cortana, a "female" AI.

No it never bothered me at all. I enjoy the fact that she is who she is and I prefer it that way. Honestly I think it's rather sexist of your friends to think that way. I think it sends a good message for gamers, for women, and just elaborate on how bad ass the Metroid series is in general. :) And I agree, I'm glad that they never sexualized Samus at all. I mean of course, millions of gamers probably draw their own fan art depicting her as they would like, but I'm glad Nintendo never got drawn in into presenting her with that rubbish.
I'm glad Samus is a chick. She's different for a change and not some body builder running hunting things. There has to be more female characters as leads than a supporting one.
I never really think about it. When I do though, I think Samus is a great character. A strong, intelligent, independent, and courageous woman who happens to be a kick*** bounty hunter. How can that NOT be cool?:P

Why do people keep lumping Samus and Master Chief together as a perfect match? It's obvious that Ironman (Tony Stark) would work out better. They could be tweaking each other's power suits and discussing plasma weapons all the time, hehe. Plus their suits are even similar in looks (gold and red)! They have a lot in common! :P

I think Samus has more in common with Megaman. But I think megaman is a robot so I don't even know if he is into chicks.
I love the game. Thats it. Saying you like halo because MC's a dude or you dont like MP cus samus is a chick, is like saying your not going to play guitar hero because one of the buttons is orange. Its only a small part of the game.
You see, it's people like your friends why people think gamers are stupid. Thankfully, most gamers love Metroid and we know we aren't sexist. I wonder if these same friends refused too watch Kill Bill or Alien because, God forbid, girls kick butt in those movies as well huh? Me, I like the tough chick who can still be beautiful. Just as most women out there like the guy who can be tough and also soft as well. That whole crazy yin yang thing you know. If your friends are worried about their manhood's by what character they play as in a video game, then it shows they are about as far from being a man as you can.
Lol. Samus being a chick has nothing to do with the game. It's in a first person perspective so the only time you can even tell she's a woman is when she gets hurt and yells. I can't believe someone would pass up this incredible game because you play as a chick........... how ridiculous, I feel sorry for whoever is so narrow minded!
it IS, however, disappointing, that nintendos only REAL girl hero (sorry super princess peach) it constantly covered up by a very masculine space suit.
