Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D Release Thread
(Is this remake as juicy as the original or is it all dried up? Find out below)

~About Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D~

Release Date: Feb 21, 2012
No. of Players:1 player
Category: Action, Adventure
Publisher: Konami
Developer: Kojima Productions

Set during the Cold War of the 60s METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D sees series hero Snake infiltrating the Soviet jungle to bring back a scientist being held against his will. Beginning on the outskirts of a military base, the player must use Snake's stealth skills along with the foliage and shade that the jungle offers as cover to infiltrate unseen. As the game progresses, old faces make unwelcome appearances and a series of terrifying boss characters must be defeated before leading up to a dramatic twist that brings Snake face to face with a key figure from his past.

"The new technology and graphics used in METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D for Nintendo 3DS are what make this release most exciting," said Tomoyuki Tsuboi, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "Fans of the original title will enjoy the new 3D and camouflage elements but will appreciate that the themes and concept of the original title are still present."

Highlights of METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D include:

3D elements: The atmosphere interacts and comes to life with series hero Snake. Springing to life in an immersive experience, the jungle's dense foliage and craggy outcrops realistically brush past as Snake moves through them and the many creatures that inhabit the terrain interact and attack if disturbed by Snake. Adding to the jungle habitat, creatures within the world can also be killed and stored as rations – highlighting how Snake must also overcome his surroundings while undercover on his mission.

Camouflage photography: Within the game, Snake can alter his ensemble to match and blend in with his immediate environment and the possibilities can range from brick-colored fatigues within buildings, to the cIassic camouflage khakis of the jungle. Users can now take a picture of real-life items and create a camo suit based on them – although the extent of its effectiveness will vary depending on how well your pictures blend with Snake's environment!

Dual-screen format: Enabling easier access to Snake's inventory, which is now located below the main action and also supports gyro synchronization for special actions like balancing on narrow ledges that will draw players further into the world of MGS. Similarly, targeting enemies is now made simpler with the addition of Circle Pad Pro-compatibility, with the second Circle Pad allowing users to target distant foes with ease.

~The Story~

In the aftermath of the Second World War, the world was torn in two between East and West. It was the beginning of a new era- the Cold War.

October 16, 1962.The President of the United States received word that the Soviet Union had deployed nuclear missiles in Cuba. The world trembled in fear as the prospect of nuclear war loomed ever closer. After days of tense negotiations, the Soviets finally agreed on the 28th to withdraw their missiles from Cuban soil. With the resolution of this incident, later to be known as the Cuban Missile Crisis, it seemed that humanity had survived yet another threat to its existence.

However, there was a secret condition in the deal that put an end to the crisis. Nokolai Stepanovich Sokolov, a Soviet scientist who had defected to the West, was to be sent back to the Soviet Union. The U.S. government agreed to this stipulation, and returned Sokolov back to his native land. Little did they know that Sokolov was to be the designer of a nightmarish weapon. Now, with Sokolov back in their hands, the Soviets are ready to resume its development. If this weapon is completed, it will mark the beginning of a new age of fear.

August 1964. Realizing at last the urgency of the situation, the CIA forms a plan to recapture Sokolov. They dispatch the covert FOX unit to Sokolov's research facility, located to the south of the great Soviet fortress of Groznyj Grad. Led by former SAS member Major Zero, FOX is a next-generation special-forces unit that operates both as a specialized combat group and as a covert intelligence outfit. The FOX unit's modus operandi is to send a single agent, backed by radio support from afar, into enemy territory to carry out solo sneaking missions.

August 24. A lone soldier swoops down from out of the blue. The man's code name is Naked Snake.

~Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D Reviews~

GameSpot - 8.0/10:

"Snake Eater 3D is an excellent treatment of a justifiable cIassic. The story and characters hold up nearly a decade after their introduction, and the improvements to stealth mechanics enhance the entire experience. It's modern enough to appeal to a new audience, and the improvements should draw a lot of series veterans back into the jungle. The 3D is some of the best on the system so far, and the mature tone is a welcome addition to the family-friendly nature that permeates Nintendo's catalog. The game even makes excellent use of the 3DS hardware while avoiding the perils of tacking on new features for the sake of variety. It's an incredibly successful upgrade to an already fantastic game and is easily one of the best games available for the 3DS to date." - (Full Review)

IGN - 8.5/10:

"In many respects, Snake Eater is the perfect Metal Gear Solid title. It takes the core mechanics of the franchise and twists them, making for a far more tense and savage experience that focuses on nature and the environment over hiding behind walls and watching a radar screen. Likewise the game's story and characters are expertly crafted, in some ways topping what the original MGS entry did so well. The addition of touch screen commands and menus, plus the improvements to the overall control scheme, are certainly welcome, making an older game play reasonably well almost a decade later." - (Full Review)

Nintendo Power - 9.0/10:

"A phenomenal game. Almost nothing was sacrificed in bringing the title to the Nintendo 3DS; from the opening scene to the powerful ending, every character model and every bit of excellent voice acting is intact, and the production values are sky-high. If you're of age to play M-rated titles and you haven't witnessed the thrills of Snake Eater before, this is one you won't want to miss -- and even if you have embarked on this mission previously, you should consider experiencing it again." - [March 2012, p.80]

Game Informer - 7.50/10.00:

"I'm not saying that Snake Eater is an inferior game; it's my favorite in the series. However, this version is only worthwhile for people who have no other choice. Even then, with the $40 you'd spend on Snake Eater 3D, you could probably buy an old PS2 and the original game, or the HD Collection on 360 and PS3. If you want the real Snake Eater experience, those are far better options." - (Full Review)

CheatCodeCentral - 4.7/5:

"The whole experience of playing Snake Eater 3D is one that proves that handheld gaming isn't dead, and is instead adapting to new markets. Snake Eater 3D is doing things on the 3DS platform that haven't been done before, and I hope this is a trend that continues. There's a longstanding idea in the gaming industry that no one can develop for Nintendo platforms better than Nintendo, but this game definitely defies that notion. Snake Eater 3D is easily one of the top games for the system, and even if you've never played a Metal Gear Solid game before, Snake Eater 3D is one that is easy to jump into for a newbie." - (Full Review)

You put weapons in the slots by going into the backpack then pick one by holding down on the weapon slot on the main screen.
