Sorry fellas, I was looking forward to MGS3 being remade on the 3DS until Konami announced remakes of 2, 3, and Peace Walker (for home consoles) all on one disc, around the same time frame of the MGS3 3D release (November) and they will probably be the same price as the 3DS game ($39.99)

Does anyone understand why they are even remaking 3 for the 3DS anymore?

I mean, clearly people are more than likely going to choose the other platforms 3 is getting ported to, since it will be the same price (more than likely) and have even more content (and probably online multi-player as well)

I'd prefer it if they just scrapped MGS3 3D now and started working on something original, it was fine with me when it was a port/remake of a stellar game and only being remade for 3DS, but honestly I can't see it as anything but a waste of time anymore.

Any thoughts? Would you rather Konami drop MGS3 3D and work on something else for the 3DS or are you going to go ahead and get MGS3 3D in spite of it being remade with more features and releasing near the same time on other platforms?

i wouldn't say "pointless", as it's still a remake rather than a texture patch, and not everyone can pick one or the other, but yeah, i'm most likely going with the version that has 3 games i haven't played.

The thing is it's going to control complete different and implement things that a console will never due, that's the whole appeal(for me at least). It's reworked for the 3ds with touch screen control's and gyroscope goodness, I would hardly call it "pointless". Going through that jungle with the stereoscopic 3D with leaves and branches coming at your face is going to be priceless, so no I don't agree with you at all.

Aren't they just HD ports? Like the Splinter Cell trilogy. Not actually remakes. I really don't mind, I'll probably pick up both. :P

have you see that trailer iamable posted... the whole thing with snake crawling through the grass and that enemy dropping his cigarrtte box? that will be so awesome in 3d...
the producer said in the pre-e3 conference that this game will take full advcantage the the 3d features and hardware.

I don't think it's pointless.

The HD games aren't in HD and the 3DS has 3DS specific features - Plus, its portable.

Personally, I don't care - I have no interest in MGS.

I'll be getting both.

MGS3 on 3DS for on-the-go. That alone justifies a purchase. I'll also buy the HD collection because of Peace Walker.

You're telling me the ability to take pictures (which by the way nothing is preventing that from happening on other consoles, they can use cameras too ya know) and play in 3D (which is neat) is better than 2 full games and possibly online multiplayer in Snake Eater? I mean this is Nintendo here, we probably aren't getting Metal Gear Online in MGS3 3D (also since it will use a 2GB Game Card will we have a lot of full video cut scenes?)

Also, there isn't anything saying the MGS2/MGS3 and PW ports on consoles won't support 3D either on 3DTVs technically, just isn't announced yet. Also, I'm thinking it will be easier to control the camera with a second analog stick than with the touch screen or L/R but I could be wrong.

I'm sorry but achievements/trophies, online play, a bigger screen to play on, controls better suited for a full controller, 2 awesome games for the same price, sounds better to me.

From a business stand point it makes no sense to release them so close to one another. Hopefully Snake Eater 3D (anyone else scared it won't be Subsistance content?) will get a slight delay or else I can't see it doing anything other than dieing on retail shelves (especially since it's likely to run up against Super Mario 3D and Mario Kart this fall too)

Who said they cannot co-exist?

Look at Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition versus Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. One is a portable experience and the other isn't. The console experience is more meatier and feature packed than the portable, but there are users that will still pick up a portable version for just that - it's portable and has unique features of its own.

Plus, releasing them both close to each other shouldn't matter much. SSFIV3D was a hit on the 3DS (as far as I can recall) and Arcade Edition is releasing 3 months later, with more content.

you can get both.. i am.

Boobie camo darth... boobie camo.... No I feel you on the business standpoint, and I for one will be picking up both games. I just want you too see how it's not pointless, because I'm sure you already watched the whole Konami Pre-E3 event and listened to the 3D snake eater Dev say how it would implement all of the features of the 3DS. So this is going to be a new experience even though by default it's going to be the same game and story, but will definitely feel fresh and new because it's simply on the 3DS. It's in your pocket, gyro, boobie camo, glasses less 3D, probably an easier and faster menu system to access, yoshi lurking, did I mention boobie camo? You are going to not want to pass on this new experience of an old game(as weird as that sounds). :P

I'm getting it for the 3D. 3D does more for me than HD. That and I don't own it on PS2. I own the others though.

No. Such a narrow-minded view, too. I guess it should have been a PS3 exclusive, too. 3DS gamers should be forced to buy 360's and PS3's to play the game. And forget ever wanting to take it with you.

Those consoles don't come standard with a camera. So the chance that the developer will support this functionality is pretty low.

LOL, I was just coming here to make this exact thread. Props to you, TC. I'm pulling my hair out in frustration. WHICH SEAT CAN I TAKE!? Also, to my disappointment, the images and video of MGS3DS looks less like last E3's tech demo and more like copy-pasted Peace Walker assets. Look at snake's animation, or his uniform for example. The graphics are still decent, but nowhere near as good as that tech demo showed. Oh, well, I guess it's Capcom who'll take the price for best 3DS graphics this year, then.

I have to agree with the original poster. It doesn't really seem that fair to 3DS owners that Capcom is releasing this game along with two other MGS games on one disc on the PS3. And even if that PS3 game does debut at $60.00, it still seems like a much more impressive deal than one of the games for $40.00, so no matter what the PS3 version just plain beats this 3DS one. It would be smart of Capcom to just make a brand new MGS for the 3DS using what they've learned from working on the Snake Eater 3DS port.

Im gutted about it myself, MGS3 was my main reason for buying a 3DS and now there bringing it out on my main console with 2 other games at the same price.. (3DS games and PS3 games are the same price here.) I will probably just rent the 3D version now, or if it has Co-op like Peace Walker i will buy it when it drops in price.

What would help the 3DS version would be the inclusion of an online mode, much like subsistence.

Capcom makes resident evil and street fighter, not Metal Gear. Konami makes metal gear. And on the topic I don't know which to get. I have not played 2 or 3, but I have peace walker and 4. I would blame konami and say why are you doing this but it is the 25th anniversary of the series. You have to go all out. Look at Zelda and what it is doing for its 25th. Two games we know about coming this year with a surprise title to bout. So I am probably just going to get mgs 3d. After playing metal gear on gamecube, you know they are going to throw in some crazy nintendo things. Just look at the end of the new trailer.

It's not a straight up port. It may have been reworked less than the 3DS version, but Konami still considers it a remake.

"Konami emphasized that both HD remakes are more than just emulator-based updates. The games are being "optimized and rebuilt" for the PS3 and Xbox 360, with a new user interface customized for HD resolutions. Konami has also redrawn the games' 2D art, effects, and fonts; improved audio quality; and included trophies and achievements. Force feedback and right analog stick functionality have also been added."

Yeah, so pretty much a shinied-up HD port. I'm guessing the 3DS version will be "Peace Walker-ified". By that I mean that the levels will have been made bite-sized to better suit the handheld format, and will thus be more different from the PS2 original than these HD versions.

Somewhat pointless. Depends on what you own, how many Metal Gear games you've played before etc.

Subsistence featured a user controllable camera, the first two Metal Gear games, a strong online component, and some extra modes of play. The HD collection is going to include 3 fantastic games (well...two fantastic, and the other has a whiny man girl) with upgraded visuals and even if they don't have the changes that the 3D version might get, the superb bang per buck (assuming it will be priced in the same ballpark as other collections) is undeniable. The 3D version looks like it'll utilize all the features unique to the 3DS very nicely which is of course one of Kojima's trademarks.

So what if you're trying to maximize the bang per buck? The 3DS version isn't certainly isn't the way to go.
Maybe you've never gotten into the Metal Gear series but feel like now is a good time? Again, the 3DS game probably isn't the best way to go.

The 3DS version certainly has its merits and it will definitely be a great game, but the only reason I can see you would buy the 3D version over the HD version is if you have either:

  • Played MGS2 and Peacewalker but not 3
  • Don't own a HD console
  • Are a huge Metal Gear fan and will buy anything

I don't understand how the presence of the game on PS3/360 makes this version pointless. By that logic, it was all ready pointless (before the recent announcement of the HD re-releases) since it was also on PS2.

Also, I know someone who only has a 3DS who is extremely excited for this.

Metal Gear Solid cutscenes have always been entirely in real time, which takes up less memory anyway, so I don't think you have to worry about that kind of thing.

That was actually my exact response to this thread title. For me, it's already pointless because I played MGS3 years ago and kinda liked it but not enough to play through it again. I'd rather have seen something made specifically for the 3DS with new characters and story, like the MGS game for Game Boy Color. That game was excellent. It doesn't need to be the epic piece of storytelling that the main games are to still be really fun (though the GBC game still had a good story).

The thing is gamers were expecting it to be the definitive version(since it was going to be an improvement over the ps2 version), but with the HD announcement we're not sure what to expect(what if they use the newer models but with higher res?).

Now if the HD release is only a resolution bump, then theres nothing to worry about.

This has been the best HD release

Sorry for the amount of pics, spoiler thing isn't working for me :(

Meh the 3DS version has Yoshi in it. So for that reason it's still a million times better than the HD remakes. Oh and if you don't believe me that it has Yoshi in it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qttQ8zcXSdc

To be honest although I am a Nintendo fanboy I won't be getting the 3DS version, and will go with the HD collection instead ^_^

MGS3 in 3d. mgs 2,3 and peace walker in HD. Im pretty sure there is an obvious difference in there, i can seem to know the difference especially when you turn on the 3d

I agree, even though the 3DS version with its added touchscreen, gyroscope goodness and integration of custom camera camos has the greater appeal for me the fact that the 3 games on one disk presents better value for money will likely force my hand on this one even if its just to pospone my 3DS game purchase for a month or so.

Gah sorry, Konami not Capcom. I don't really play the Metal Gear games so I kinda always get them mixed up with Capcom for some reason.

[QUOTE="GreySeal9"]

I don't understand how the presence of the game on PS3/360 makes this version pointless. By that logic, it was all ready pointless (before the recent announcement of the HD re-releases) since it was also on PS2.

Also, I know someone who only has a 3DS who is extremely excited for this.

lbjkurono23

The thing is gamers were expecting it to be the definitive version(since it was going to be an improvement over the ps2 version), but with the HD announcement we're not sure what to expect(what if they use the newer models but with higher res?).

Now if the HD release is only a resolution bump, then theres nothing to worry about.

*Whole lotta comparative images*

The MGS3DS images you showed are from last year's E3's barely-interactive demo. The shots that have just been released look nowhere near this good, and many of them look like they contain ripped Peace Walker assets.

MGS3DS at E3 2010:

MGS3D now:

Disappointing, I know. I'm certain better graphics than portrayed in the image above are possible on DS, look at Resident Evil revelations.

It's a little more than a port actually.

http://forums.gametrailers.com/thread/mgs-hd-collection---screenshot/1218503

As you can see it's enhanced. Not very much better, but still.

It's definately a port, while the 3ds version is completely rebuild and is a remake. That's a lot better ofcourse.

Despite owning a 360, I will probably getMGS3 for the 3DS. I work away a lot so portable gaming is looking more and more appealing to me as the weeks go by lol :)
