I have every MGS game in existence. I love the franchise, along with SH, RE, and Dino Crisis and bought all the games that came out on all platforms and still have my old consoles to play them on anytime I want. My problem is; Nintendo ninja'ed MGS3 with updates for their 3DS. MGS3 is getting rereleased in HD for Ps3(and xbox360), but my question is, should I go that far to buy a console for just one game? Meryl is telling me yes.

Wait, which console would be the one you are buying? You mentioned being a fan of Resident Evil. A new, AAA RE is coming to the 3DS if that's what you meant. If you meant XBOX or PS3, then a Silent Hill collection is going to those. Assuming that's what you meant by RE and SH. But either way, there is more than enough on either console for you to get it, assuming you have the money. Plus, if you don't have a PS3, there is MGS4, plus MGSR is coming to both XBOX and PS3. I'm guessing you meant you don't have a 3DS though, so I will focus on that.

Since you say you have every MGS on every possible console, I'm guessing you have some experience with Nintendo. So I'm not going to go into that much, you should know what to expect. Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, etc. Even Paper Mario. If you're into Japanese things, such as anime and JRPGs, then definitely get a 3DS. The 3D is phenomenal, if it doesn't hurt your eyes (some people have a problem with this, but not many, and games are just as good in 2D anyways.) There are plenty of classics on the VC, and maybe even the GBC version of MGS will make an appearance. ;)

The MGS on 3DS's textures look crappy, and do not meet the graphical heights that the 3DS can reach.

The game looks far better on the console itself than it does on internet videos and they're more than comparable to the original. The main issue with the game is with the controls, which I personally couldn't get used to in the 10 or so minutes I had with it a few months ago. This would definitely suit the Slide Pad Pro, with some of the action buttons being moved to the shoulder buttons.

I see you have not seen the new TGS 2011 trailer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeTrfJv-BwM Look at Eva's new model, Snake's improved textures and Volgin's better shading.

It depends the 3DS version looks better then the PS2 version. My opinion is that the HD MGS3 will just be a HD port, it won't be much better and it won't add much extra, it's just a colleciton great deal for those who haven't played the games or wanna refresh there metal gear solid having 3 great games in one colleciton fora reasonable price. The 3DS game is gonna be on a 4GB card, while most 3DS games are on a 2GB. That means that there will likely be extras put into the game. The 3DS version will have elements that strictly use the 3DS advantages, while the HD collection will be a straight port with maybe some small features like leaderboards, but it's not a remake it's a port. The HD won't be from the ground up and just be an upgraded port. The 3DS one will be a remake, it will have a new control scheme for the 3DS, new graphics to completely benefit the 3DS's graphics chip specifically, new features like the camo system. In my view, if you want a portable remake to be enjoyed in 3D and have new features and be played in a different way then previously you want the 3DS version, the MGS HD Collection is a better value and is great if you want to experience the MGS home console version and haven't got a chance before.

MGS3 was originally on an 8GB DVD though. So there might have to be a lot of compression and low res textures.
