Hope to have you in the nintendo club.
There are many reasons to get the wii. The wii has an amazing motion control system, that really brings out the "action" in gaming. Imagine interacting with things in the enviroment such as opening doors, loaded weapons, and just simulating the things on the screen.
I recommend some mini games at first, just to get the feel of the wiimote. These include wario ware smooth movies, raving rabbids. These games also are fun for family and friends when they come over. Its like, lets see if you can keep up and keep moving kinda games.
For great new Wii games, you have, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, Resident Evil 4, The Godfather : Blackhand edition. Loads of gameplay time. You'll have fun waiting for the next release.
For some old school/new school feel there are game like super paper mario, metal slug anthology.
Those are some of the Wii games out right now. There are much more to tinker around with.
In the virtual console you get to play a lot of the older school games, like original mario, mario kart 64, ninja gaiden, older zelda's which are fantastic, also the older metroid primes. Needless to say there is a lot of contect from nes, snes, 64, turbo grafix , and sega. Every monday, you get new releases.
There are still loads of games that are going to come out fo the wii. Not just kiddy games either, don't let the graphics fool you, this system is about content, and about interactivity, not much flashy lights, graphics, eye candy. Hey, I'm going to admit, i would love to have it, but so far i think the strategy isn't the worst. Although next generation they better let these shinanigans go and get with it. But anywhoo, the system is very fun. The games like metroid prime 3 and twilight princess don't look bad at all in my opinion though, and still offer loads of fun. If all you play games for is its graphics then stay away, you won't get much out fo the wii, but if you enjoy playing the game for its story, for just playing it, then give the wii a try.
Other problems with the wii are its weird online system, you need friend codes to play other people if not you get matched with someone around the world, who might be like uber times better than you, a hacker, or wateva and you'll be @#$!#%$ at the screen while you get owned lol. Hey it happens. The friend code is annoying because you can't just meet other people or talk to them and play you have to know people and coordinate a time to play. I suggest you join some wii forums so you get to exchange friend codes with people and have more people to play with once the online games start coming in. Right now you have a few games with online gameplay. Mario Strikers Charged for example.
Anticipated games are manhunt 2, very adult, very graphic, very wanted. Other remastered classics offered are the new mario game, mario galaxy, the new mario kart, the new super bro brawl. All coming out soon too, in the next few months.
This system came out this year and is still evolving. There are so many games, old and new to try.
If you can find out and buy it, I think you will enjoy it. When your friends come over they will also. If one of your friends drinks a lot and then starts playing, its going to be hillarious to watch him. ahHhhmmmm. hahhaha.
Good luck.
no 3 rings of death for 1
Smash bros will be sweet, internet browser that works great, many great vc games, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy later this year
fun party games....it will win the console war easy...trust me!!!
I have to agree with simplexlumen
On minigames, they do give you a good feel for the wiimote, and I'll just add that they are like tech demos. I think we have a lot of them because they are important at this stage in the wii's development. In each minigame collection there are things that work and things that dont, and devs are supposed to learn from it. It's great for something like warioware because if something doesn't work well at least you'll be done with it in 4 seconds (the games are really small)
The wii is definitely like the ps3 in that its software is still in its early awkward stage with a few gems. It looksin time the wii will be like the ds in terms of software, so the wii is a good long term investment.
If you really want a "wii" experience, on top of a couple minigames, I think you should try trauma center, and also throw people around and strangle them in Godfather.
free online, virtual console, and really fun to play with motion controls
Dude get twighlight princess, super paper mario, godfather if u dont allready have it its great on wii strangling ppl with the wiimote and nunchuck is awesome, and get warioware if u want a fun multiplayer game
[QUOTE="philsphan123"]i might get one too.....have there been any common defects or anything like that?chris3116
Don't worry. The defects are really rare on Nintendo products. It's nothing like the 360.
I think the only Major Defect... atleast that I heard of was the Wii Straps breaking....
There may of been a few others but its not something they would go out and say OOPS for like microsoft did.
Plus itl be a new way to play FPS with the Wiimotes and the Zapper comin out.

Wow I haven't heard that in a LONG time. They'll send you 4 new ones if you want them too. I got them and they have a little clamp so they don't slide off when playing games.
