Monster Hunter cross plat question

Say that i decide to buy monster hunter u for my 3ds a few weeks before i get a wii u and MH for it. will i just be able to upload my save and go? or do I have to start on the wii u? I am a bit confused on this. thanks and sorry to add to the MH posts that are flooding but i do love the game and like to play online and i know wih the Wii u thats possible but I travel a lot and wouldnt mind ranking my character up then buying the wiiu. thanks again!

I'm under the impression that you can simply transfer your save file over and use it on the WiiU version, the same being true for the reverse (WiiU save file transfered to the 3DS).
