Look, I'm all for Nintendo re-releasing older titles to their systems. They've been doing it for years. I understand on a very basic level that people who didn't grow up in a certain time period who didn't have access to certain titles would want to play these older gems.

Fine. Good.

I also understand why the Wii has come about as one of the most popular systems in recent memory. Its accessible gameplay and motion sensing technology have heralded a new generation of games.

That being said, Metroid Prime, Pikmin, and whatever other games they are going to inevitably be remaking, in my opinion, really shouldn't be re-released with shoe-horned motion controls when they are barely 8 years old.

I'm sorry, but its an easy way for Nintendo to make more money and I don't approve. Now, a sequel or complete revision to the games in some way would be much more appealing, but its literally the same games. With motion controls. That's it.

For a lot of people, this will be enough. For me, it isn't. The Wii can play the originals for crying out loud!

The idea is admittedly interesting. But lazy for so many reasons. They have the means to create new and better games than what were. Nintendo really needs to come to grips with this and capitalize on the success of their system.

Seeing that Nintendo has been around for what, almost 30 years, i'm pretty sure they know what they doing. I dont have a problem with the Wii-makes, as long as we get new games. I think they are making a pikimini 3, new metriods, etc... I did not play any of the primes or pikminis for GC. I bought the primes when i got prime 3, but havent finished 1,2. it would be nice to play them again, in order, with the same controls. But give me a new metriod also. Prime 3 has been out 1.5 years, so dont worry they havent anncouncd a new one. Nintendo is not a company to release a B game every year(COD, Guitar Hero, anything sport releated etc...). they release "A" games every 3-4 years. Why does everything complain about this topic. I think it is a good idea, they not going to be $50, more like $30, and for anyone who missed them last gen(which there was a lot), this is a good thing they doing. Just remember that they are working on new Zelda, Mario, Metriod, DK, Starfox, and who knows what else, we have close to 3 years b4 Wii is at the end of its life, so there is plenty of time.

See here is the thing the GC only sold around 22 million. Pik-men 1 & 2 as well as MP 1 & 2 all sold less then 1 million except MP1 which sold a little more but all were GREAT games and if they had been release on the PS2 would have sold 3 - 4 million. All these games really benefit from the new control schemes and are better so why not re-release these games with 16:9 wide screen and 480p with BETTER controls and bring more new people into the series and stories plus this may increase the number of NEW gamers swimming up stream.

There are pros and cons on both sides of the argument. I believe that, for the most part, it was a good idea. I don't think they're exactly trying to make money like 3rd party devs are when they port old games. Why would Nintendo need more money, seeing as ow they are already rolling in it. I think that they're experimenting to see what these GC games would have been like if they had originally been released with motion controls. In the case of Pikmin, it's probable that Nintendo are trying to find out what works with that game. With the feedback they get, they'll be able to refine and tighten the controls for P3.

I really don't think Nintendo cares, as long as the investors in a majority approve (and they do) that is all that matters.

True enough, but try finding a new copy of any of those games in a brick and mortar store. Try finding it on-line, even when used many games are more expensive after shipping and handling. Also, many people don't trust purchases on the net. Many of us are looking forward to many of these games.

I have a friend that had tried Metroid Prime for the GCN, she could not play the game at all, had a hard time dealing with the controls. I then asked her to try Corruption, she had a much easier time moving around and playing the game. Still, the game was not for her, that's ok, it just proved that it made the game a whole lot easier to play. She is VERY MUCH interested in Pikmin, as again, she hard a hard time with the GCN controller.

The thing is, there aren't even that many good games for the system and I'm desperate for some good games right now. I'll definitely be picking up these for the time being. You can't expect good games to come out at a fast rate (as you've clearly seen the past few years) so at least be grateful for something playable at least because I was thrilled when I first heard about these. I figured I'd never see those games again after I had to sell them off to clear up some space.

I really don't understand the idea that if these games will sell good Nintendo and other devs will make more games in these franchises.

If anything it will only show Nintendo that they don't need to come up with new ideas and will instead continue to release rehashes.

I don't understand your argument here?

Why should people settle for less because devs don't want to release quality games? That would not send the right messages.

You are also wrong by thinking that you can't excpect good games to come out at a fast rate. The DS does it the 360 does the PC does it and the PS3 does it so why shouldn't the Wii do it?

Because it's all based on opinions. For example, I've only bought 1 (ONE) single game for PS3, and like 5 for my 360, of which I only like one, COD4. I happen to like the games on Nintendo more. Opinion does in no way at all equal fact, and that is a fact.

Do remember, that is the reason there are other consoles, and like you said, to you they have plenty of good games, if there are non for a period of time in the Nintendo console, the fact that you have another console where you have a different choice is golden.

What I'm saying here is the idea that Nintendo shouldn't be falling back on these games when it has the capacity to accomplish so much more.

Think about if they would take Super Metroid, and make that game revised in Metroid Prime fashion with motion controls. I would buy that on day one.

Same idea with Pikmin, tennis, and whatever other titles they plan on making for the Wii.

It's a shame that more people didn't get to play the games in their original form oh so many years ago. On the same token, maybe they should have paid a little more attention to Nintendo at the time and rented or bought the games back when they had the chance. That's very cold to say, but the fact is that these are the same games.

Think of it this way. Take Halo 1. Ok re-release the game on the 360, and add all the cool toy's they put in the 3rd one to that game and do nothing else with it. Or take a game like Contra shattered soldier and give it the motion functioning tool on the PS3.

Would both of these types of games sell? I would say yes. Are they being revised in a completely new way that makes sense and caters to a new target audience. Not enough.

What I'm still saying here is that Nintendo is dropping the ball when they should be picking it up and running with it.

TC, do you have a problem with downloading N64 games on the Wii? Do you hate the fact that you can download Mario 3 for $5?

Because I'm pretty sure that Nintendo would simply make GC games available for download if the Wii had the capabilities.

$30 for these games is a good price. It's about half the price of a Wii game and they've taken the effort to update the controls. They wanted to offer more experience for your money than DLC was currently offering. they even fixed some things on Pikmin that gamers saw as a problem. It's a better game, for less money than the original GC version cost when it came out.

How is this a bad thing?

It's not going to take away from new projects, because a relatively inexperienced team can rework GC games to put out on the Wii... and if they sell well, they'll put more money into Nintendo's coffers, which will go towards more new projects.

How is this bad? I don't get it.

Besides, it's not like anyone is making you buy them.

First off, there have been some additions besides the improved controls. They all have native widescreen. Pikmin will have a feature that will allow you to go back to whichever day you want. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat will have slightly improved graphics and a few more levels. That's all that I know about the additions so far.

I'm personally not against these Nintendo remakes, but I think I'd start to get angry at Nintendo if they made more. I've only played 2 of the 7 gc games being remade, but I think if I'd played more (specifically the ones I'm interested in) that I'd be against these games as well (because I'm not rebuying either of the ones I've already played.) I'm guessing it's this way with you. Have you played most of those 7 games being remade?
