Ever since Smash Bros has come out a lot of the games afterward have been using multiple set-ups for those who refuse to use motion sensing (classic, gamecube, etc.). At first i was like, "Okay that is fine." But after hearing about Sonic Unleashed's conrtol scheme i have become to fear that a lot of games will try to stray away from the motion controls. But wasn't the whole point of the wii was to have a new way to play? To have the character in the palm of your hand? To slash a sword with a swipe of the wii remote? Do you think that having multiple set ups will be a good thing for wii or will it be the downfall?

How can it be good?? Nintendo has flinched and has partially backed down from motion controls. I mean face it, motion controls are better and funner than anything that has been done before. Dual analog is dead. The only reason Nintendo still keeps those lame control styles in its games is because some gamers are too clumsy to learn how to use motion control.

the only games that have multiple control styles from nintendo, are brawl and mariokart. this is very useful because if you have one wiimote and 3 gc controllers, you can still play a four player match

the more control options the better...some people like to play games different ways...now that i've gotten used to playing MK:Wii with the steering wheel, i'll never play Mario Kart another way again...but how does that make it better than people who like to use more traditional methods?

Multiple control set ups are okay, but at a point they get to be a bit too much. I'm not sure how many people are willing to put up with buying a Wii Remote, a Nunchaku for each remote, classic controllers for SSBB, Wii Wheels for Mario Kart, Wii Zappers for RE:UC, AND Wii Balance Boards for Wii Fit. In addition to whatever other devices Nintendo has planned. The good thing about each of these accessories so far is that they have the potential to be used by many additional games, but if developers don't make games that accomodate them, the accessories will become pointless clutter.

IMHO, if the motion controls associated with the Wii Remote/Nunchuk are intuitive and responsive, then it's great to offer different control schemes. If not, then shame on the developer and the related game(s). It shows how lazy a developer can be (which IMO, is Masahiro Sakurai).

Examples
Mario Kart Wii (Nice use of Wii Remote tilt, multiple control schemes make multiplayer more accessible)
SSBB (Multiple control schemes make multiplayer more accessible, but there are almost no motion controls in the game)

I always prefer to have options. I do not like not being able to choose. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone and Nintendo knows this.

You know you don't HAVE to have the Wheel for Mario Kart? That plastic shell isn't required.

More options is for the best. I just hope it doesn't get carried away.

Gotta cater to everyone's needs I guess... more options for the consumer is the best way to go.

How can versatility be a bad thing. You don't make sense (to me).

Also, if games are going to go for traditional control schemes (meaning crappy or no motion controls), the Wii might as well be called the Gamecube 1.5 or something.

I sort of wish that games can be more like Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, or Lost Winds (which are a just a few examples). I (and probably some others) like the beauty of using one control scheme that works brilliantly while embracing motion and/or pointer controls.

TC. I'll agree. If you remove the motion controls and IR pointer from the Wii you are left with a last gen system... with a built in memory card and tacked on online. But don't tell anyone... they get upset.

I love it when people explain their opinions thoroughly.

Personally, I think some games need optional control scemes, while others don't. For example its been proven that tilt control isn't as accurate as analog sticks, hence the optional control schemes in Mario Kart.

But when devs put Clasic support for shooters (I'm looking at you, RE4), I'm thinking, whats the point? Wiimote control is FAR better than dual analog, so why anyone would want to choose the worse option is beyond me.

Other genres that dont need optional contol schemes are action, adventure, puzzle, party, sports (ProEvo and Madden prove this), but racing and fighting demand it.

As a MK vet, I like it. It allows me to play MK Wii with my wife and four year old son, while I play with my wavebird or classic controller. They aren't that good with analog sticks, and I know the wheel can be effective with practice, but I'm an old dog that's not good learning new tricks.

Think about it. The games likes Mario Strikers, Smash, and Mario Kart are multiplayer games, that don't really need motion controls. Look at all of the other Nintendo games, LOZ:TP, MP3, SMG ect.. they use motion controls.

Doesn't mean the motion controls won't be incorporated, but more options can cater to other people who find them better than just motion. Brawl I still use the GC controller since I didn't get used to the Mote/Chuck combo and Mario Kart I use the Mote/Chuck because I don't like the wheel as much. Motion just works better in some games than others, and multiple controls aren't going to be in every game.

The Wii's motion controls are awesome, but, believe it or not, some people don't like motion in games. So it is a way to attract the people even more, by letting them choose their best control scheme. Don't worry, the motion controls on Wii will not disappear.

More options are a GOOD thing, not a bad thing. Especialy when it comes to those devs who jsut haven't quite figured out how to program good motion controls yet.

i havent used my GC controller for Mario Kart yet, motion sensing does work, the GC controller is more there for those afraid of change or are too lazy to learn... like me in super smash, im too lazy to switch to the nunchuck and wiimote, but my cousin switched over and he plays fine.

I dont really care for multiple set ups but in brawl it work and is nice so you dont have to buy 4 Wii-motes and Nunchucks.

Multiple control setups, or lack of Touch Screen use, didn't seem to hurt the DS at all. So I don't think it will hurt the Wii either.
