after watching stuff of red steel 2 i have some things to say...

positive -

the graphics and art style are BEAUTIFUL, i looks allmost like a 360 game.

the action, the begining of the demo with the main dude getting dragged through the dessert with the motorcycle was EPIC

controls, wii motion plus has defintly improved it.

the story seems much better then rs1

the main character looks awesome

now for the Negatives...

NEGATIVES -

NO BLOOD!!! i know this sounds immature but listen me out, i mean the name is "RED" Steel, RED! Blood red?! not to mention it just ruins the game play. watch the demo, i guy getting shot in the FACE with a friggen MAGNUM and not even alittle puff of blood...wtf?? not to mention watching the sword play, it looks awesome but i mean cmon? slashing and stabbing people and not even a drop of blood. Whats the point? honastly it ruins the game for me.

The dissapearing bodies...seriously it just looks bad watching the get all choppy.

I couldn't care less about blood. You can throw people 30 ft in the air and shoot them on the way down and your coplaining about blood and realism?

It's just weird. If you slice people with a sword, you would expect to see some blood.

yeah, after watching gameplay from ign. i was hoping just a little blood. you know, nothing too aggressive like madworld, but just a little splat coming out from the body to the floor wouldn't hurt. but overall though, i am very very excited for the game.

The disappearing bodies is a little strange, but it sort of adds an arcade feel to it.

They covered this in their commentary on IGN. They wanted to make an old-school unrealistic game, not a gorefest. They wanted you to feel like a badass, not a murderer. And it won't hurt sales either.

Is that revolver the only gun you will be able to use?

If so, I ain't buying it.

The enemies react when you shoot them or slice them. There's no problem seeing when you've done damage.

In my opinion, it's just as weird to see a huge fountain of blood as it is to see no blood at all. They both get the same reaction out of me... a little chuckle. Neither is accurate, nor are they meant to be.

You can get a T rating with blood. In fact, you can get a T rating with blood and gore. The difference between T and M as far as that goes is whether your game is a bloody mess with entrails flying everywhere, or just contains splatters n' chunks. ^_^

I don't care about the game being a gore fest there are more than enough of those, my only complaint is that they aren't using WM+ too its fullest, they are still using animations in combat. Like you cant do a high horizontal block or low horizontal block, there is only one level of blocks and the general attack directions.

I don't think a gore fest would work for this game, it would have actually made more sense in the more realsitic world of Red Steel 1, the whole morally gray tale and everything. This world has the vibe of a Batman or Superman knd of thing, and they don't run around decapitating guys, they don't fight for fun or anything like that, they fight for a good reason. Thats the feeling I get from this game, as oppossed to say No More Heroes where one the violence is a joke, its sartire and two Travis is not a hero, as a matter of a fact he's kind of a douchebag. Also he fights for fun, he fights with killing being the only goal for his own selfish reasons. Also when your fighting a bunch of people who kill for money and things like that, it wont be pretty. So it works there but for the world they crafted for Red Steel 2, it would be out of place/

Well, what do you think is the reason for not adding blood?Pices
From Jason Vanderherghe, the creative director of the game, when asked if working with no blood is frustrating:
Wouldn't that be cool ? This is one of those questions that I am often asked. But in my opinion, if you put this kind of violence into the game, it will become the argument of the game. Perhaps not for everyone, but for quite a few people. MadWorld is a very good example: there is a real game behind it, but people get blocked by the gore aspect. I'm not here to judge, but to present a true game experience based on firearms and Katana. So the question about blood was: "Will this boost us or not?" I didn't think it would. I think that it would disturb the game. Plus it's really hard for me to think that I'm a hero with a heart of gold when I'm chopping everyone's head off. This is a game where you have the role of a hero. Admittedly he's pretty grim, but he's good. There isn't a moral choice to be made when playing this game. Will that work? Of course. I personally would play myself, but that isn't what we wanted to do this time.Jason

Basically, he thought blood would take away more from the game than it could add.

Here's the whole interview if anyone's interested.

that is the stupidest reason ever.

having the blinking bodies just make the game look unpolished.

you can still have blood and make the game unrealistic

what in the hell is the differance? badass or murderer. you are KILLING people with guns and swords! so it should have blood.

the only reason ubisoft isnt putting blood is becouse they are talking the easy way out and staying with the T rating.

That's very interesting. He also went more into depth about his reasoning just now on GameSpot's Live Stage Show. He said it's hard to consider someone a hero or a good guy when they're decapitating people and chopping their hands and limbs off while they're screaming, "agh my hand" "aaah bleeding" and stuff. I think he's right. That's why in many shooters where they want you to identify your char as the hero, they make the enemies completely inhuman - they're undead zombies, aliens, something slimy and disgusting, etc. But if you're brutalising other humans... you're more of an anti-hero. I can respect that, but I still don't see the reasoning behind the flashing bodies. It's archaic and looks bad.

WTF? Star Wars Force Unleashed, Soul Calibur, Final Fantasy. All have swords, but yet, no blood...Are people really complaining about the lack of blood? I'm honestly more disappointed about the disappearing bodies than the lack of blood. Make them dissipate into the sand. Fade away with the wind. Anything but blink and disappear.

He answered your question in the quote I gave. They think that brutalizing the violence takes away from the heroic and morally good aura that the protagonist (and the gamer by extension) is supposed to exude. That opens a whole moral can of worms, but the violence is a bit more acceptable to most people if it isn't realistic and bloody.

when i say i want blood im not talking about brutalizing the violence with decapitation and entrails flying eveywhere, ALL im asking for is alittle splash, alitttle smeer of blood. how could just alittle blood make the main characater less heroic and morally good?

i mean after watching the videos no blood just makes the combat look unsatisfying and boring.

and because the main focus of the game is sword play, having no blood just looses the purpose...same goes for even keeping the name red steel.

look at zelda twilight princess. the game has no blood but when i slash a monster we get a strong red flash and that nice "Shhhhing!!" sound. it makes it visually satisfying. now imagine if they took that out.

The guy is talking BS...I personally say that I have never known any REAL hero to not decapitate someone, Richard the Lion Heart did...erm...sugar my minds gone blank on heroes now, Lol...someone name some other REAL hero's that have cut peoples heads off. But seriously I don't know why everyone thinks a little bit of blood will turn into a gore fest...all I want is some decent effects in my games a small blood spirt signalling that the guy I just chopped or shot took the damage and it hurt him....is that so wrong? to want a little feeling in my games? is it?

I don't know about you guys, but I want more games like Red Steel 2. No blood and gore means a safe rating, meaning better sales, meaning more games like this being made by developers. Me, I don't care about seeing blood. I want this game to be as incredible as it looks and I want more games like it to be made for the Wii.

You're right; historical "heroic" figures did decapitate people and probably killed people while they were screaming, or even begging for their lives. The thing is, the page sanitises history. When you read about a hero, you read that they conquered this, defeated this, led some amazingly tactical battle, led their army to victory against overwhelming odds... what you can't "read" is the vast amounts of blood they spilt, and that is why they appear heroic. Because you can't see the horrors of war. The reason why there are no more heroes (coffcoffplug!coffcoff) is because of the camera and TV reporting. Not being able to see the blood spilt by the hero approximates that whitewashed historical perspective that allows us to idolise military leaders from the past.

It's a matter of personal preference, of course, so people can want the opposite and be justified as well. It sounds like the only difference between this game and the game you want it to be is bloodspill. There could be much worse things missing from the game, so I'd suggest taking what you can get when you can get it.

You're perfectly entitled to want blood, even just a little, but to let that be the driving force behind whether you or think the game is satisfying or unsatisfying seems pretty weak. And it goes with the creative director's point that people tend to focus on blood. ;)

I kinda see where you're going, but then again i never really noticed this till you just pointed it out. After all the original red steel didn't feel awkward and it didn't have blood either.
