There's been so much discussion of Pokemon, Zelda, and even Mario possibly becoming MMO's... eventually I thought of something I've never seen mentioned... a METROID MMO.

I haven't played any non-Prime Metroids or Hunters, so my lore could be all screwed up, but what about an MMO that takes place after Fusion? I believe that was the last chronologically. Unless I'm very wrong, the Space Pirates WERE NOT eliminated, simply Mother Brain in Super Metroid. We all know Ridley seems to be able to find ways to come back no matter what -- through cloning or whatever other means -- and that he's plenty capable of running the Space Pirates without Mother Brain. So yes, after Fusion, Ridley is still in charge of the Space Pirates.

So, I suppose you can go the route of having different races. You've already got a crapload of different Space Pirate races to choose from for the villains, and you've got the GF plus maybe the races of the different Hunters? Either Hunters the game or the hunters for Corruption would work... or both... I know I read somewhere that at least one of the races would never become bounty hunters and the hunter was a rare exception, but I don't know if that means they would never go to war against the Space Pirates if they found some means to cause serious damage. Maybe you could come up with a leader for every race -- you could obviously do a home-planet for each -- but you could also do Samus/GF Leader as the good guy commander and Ridley as the bad guy commander. I think Samus would be unlikely unless she sort of settled into a more permanent job as leader of the GF, so whoever's leading them would probably be the good guy commander.

It would have to be heavily PvP focused, because there is most likely not one common enemy of the Pirates and the good guys, unlike World of Warcraft. In WoW, there's heroes and there's anti-heroes -- the Alliance and the Horde. In Metroid, there's heroes and there's straight up villains. Not trying to COMPARE to WoW, I just want to say that so no one DOES compare them.

I'd go with "Missions" instead of "Quests". I would suggest all races start on their separate homeworlds, but once you level to a certain point (not too high), you can take a space shuttle to the main planet, which in turn can shuttle you to and from the other starter planets. What this main planet would be, I don't know. I think that this planet would MOSTLY be a PvE zone, maybe even two separate planets, one for the good guys and one for the bad guys. As you level up, you gain access to various different zones of war, that you can once again fly to by space shuttle. At a high level, you could eventually buy and design your own spacecraft, and take that to certain areas as well.

You could also possibly fly to the planet that Samus is on, if she's not the leader of the GFed. You could assist her in certain missions. Plus, there could be scripted events where Samus and Ridley fight with an army of real players supporting. Of course, neither die, because in the meantime they'd still be in the capital city (Ridley for sure, Samus is she's the GFed leader... if not, she'd be wherever she normally is), the loser just escapes somehow. Maybe at first you CAN attack Samus/Ridley, but eventually they take the battle to an inaccessible area -- I don't know, something collapses around them that you COULD get through with enough blasting but you wouldn't, because there's a war going on. I think it'd be AWESOME to be having a Good Guy vs. Space Pirate war going on as Samus and Ridley duke it out on the sidelines. How well your leader is doing depends on how well the army is doing.

This is probably all WAY too much for Wii to even handle, but I'm basically just fantasizing. I think that'd be amazing, but would probably only work if 1) Nintendo got a much stronger internet or 2) it was on PC, which would 99.5% NEVER happen. Oh well.

What do you think? Criticize INTELLIGENTLY or contribute your ideas.

Its 11PM over here and I'm not in the mood for reading. Good work on your post, but do you fancy summing it up in a couple of sentences?

I can try, hazbazz. Duckman, I don't think there's any chance you actually read my post, but okay.

Alright, here goes...

Metroid MMO, two different sides -- GF plus some of the different hunter races (from hunters or corruption) for good, different kinds of Space Pirates for evil, Samus/GF Commander leads good, Ridley leads evil. Takes place after Fusion. It's pretty much a big interstellar war. Each race starts on their own home planet and at a relatively low level can travel by space shuttle to a main planet for each side. As you increase in level, you gain access to more and more battlefields. Eventually you can purchase and customize your own spacecraft. As you get very high in level, you can get to certain instanced battle zones where Samus and Ridley duke it out while the two separate armies battle (neither dies, since they'd still be needed in their capital cities, loser just esacapes). How well your hero/leader is doing depends on how well the army is doing.

That's the best I can do.

As I'm not a Metroid fan, I've got no problem seeing the franchise go off in new directions. I know a lot of fans will tell you its a bad idea. It seems pretty cool to me though.

Yup, I'm a big Prime fan -- haven't played the classics much but played a bit of ZM and loved it -- but I'm still willing to see change. Everyone criticized the idea behind Prime as well. Thanks!

As for you, Duckman, you're missing the point. I'm fine with people not wanting an MMO, but I never asked for anyone to tell me what they thought of an MMO. I asked for constructive criticism on my idea.

I can't constructively criticize an idea that I don't like.

Seriously, that's like someone saying "Please hug me," but you don't like hugging them, so instead of just NOT hugging them, you decide to shoot them instead.

highly unlikely that there will be a MMO on wii. Maybe something like Guild Wars with town the only place where you can see other players no in your party, but thats no very likely either.
