Since the release of DS lite there have been all kinds of ideas of how nintendo will continue the DS. My prediction is that they simple will not continue anything in the DS line. They called the DS the DS so that it would be separate from the Gameboy line. They will only continue with the Gameboy line. As for the next nintendo handheld, I think it will be a widescreened, sleek system with the graphical capabilities above the gamecube, but under the wii. What do you think?

Haven't you seen the PSP's beautiful wide-screen? It looks especially good playing Tekken or MGS.

haha DTS. (i'm thinking of the surround sound DTS). I like the crispness of the non-touch screen, though. what the original guy suggested was pretty much a PSP though. PSP has PS2 or more graphics, right? That's about between the GC and Wii.

Widescreen, slick look, same size as the DS Lite, more graphically capable. Keep it simple is what I say, the DS Lite is a great console so no need to make drastic changes. Just a few tweaks here and there is all it needs to become a superior handheld system.

lol. I think the Gameboy is pretty much dead and the DS is the new Gameboy. Sure... It doesn't have the Gameboy name, but it's basically the evolution of the Gameboy.

With sales the way they are with the DS, Nintendo would be stupid to go back to the Gameboy and ditch the DS.

The DS has no doubt been extremely succesful, but despite the success surprisingly the DS's touch screen capabilities hasnt really been used that much at all. I think nintendo might carry on the gameboy franchise but with a more technical twist, this time making graphics and hardware a priority perhaps in addition to its game developing? Something that will also appeal to graphics-obsessed gamers.

"DS", "Gameboy" those are just names for the system, heck I sometimes refer to my DS as my "gameboy."  It doesn't really matter what you call it, the GBA was last gen and the "DS" is the present.  The DS is just the progression of the GBA, not a competitor, it wouldn't make a lot of sense for Nintendo to have two separate portable lines.  My prediction is that the next Nintendo portable, whatever they choose to call it, will have at least one touchscreen and probably an acceleromator as well.  Naturally, it's graphics capabilities will evolve as well.

besides the the name another reason why they would not continue with the DS line is that there is not that much to improve on... the ds is new and great. Nintendo is all about innovative gaming right now... if they just made another DS all they could improve on is graphics and sound... If they contiued the Gameboy line, they could do all sorts of funky things like video interaction (maybe like iToy), or they could install motion censors. If they do those things to the ds, I think the DS would be a little to jam packed with stuff, most games wouldn't be able to take advantage of the features. But, I hope they do make a new gameboy :! The description I gave origonally was like the PSP... fact is that the PSP hardware is sweetnes... I don't think it is as unique or has as good games as the DS.. but the screen and graphics are plain great... If nintendo through in some great innovation to it... it would be a pure winner...

how the heck would you hold or use that? I don't really agree with that Idea at all... maybe a large screen with multi touch like the iPhone...

I think we are a long way from a new Nintendo handheld. If I were to imagine what it would be like, I think it's hard to say. With the success of the touchscreen, the new system would more than likely incorporate that. They might have a more comprehensive start menu, maybe more wifi features like a built in browser or wifi pictochat. I don't necessarily think it will have two screens. I'm sure it will have a bigger screen but I'm not sure if two will be necessary (though they might just to keep the pedigree).I just hope it doesn't have an mp3 player in it. Why the hell does everything have to have an mp3 player in it (your car, your cellphone, your pda, your pacemaker, your shoes, and to top it all off, you have to own an iPod aswell). I just think enough things have mp3 players in them that my second generation DS doesn't need one.

I think their next handheld will address all the issues of the current DS:: - like the low graphic quality - probably give the new system better multimedia capabilities - bluetooth for better multiplayer capabilities - probably give the new handheld motion sensing capabilities(like the Wii), combined with the touch screen -maybe move to a cd based system, so they can make larger games(128mb is what the largest Ds game can hold) who knows whether it will be called a DS or a gameboy, but it's a handheld from Nintendo, so it most likely will be awsome.
