Launch date of DS -

Went in to get my regular DS and Mario 64 DS. I had that DS with absolutely NO problems until the launch of the DS lite.

After Launch of Lite -

About a month after the launch of the DS lite I went to the mall and got myself a DS lite with Kirby; Kanvas Kurse. I live happily with that DS for about 3 months. I had heard stories about the dreaded "cracked hinge". I figured if it didn't happen within the first three months, it would never happen. Then, one day I discovered a very small crack on the hinge. I didn't really want to go through the trouble of getting it replaced ( I thought it would cost money ), but I decided to call Nintendo anyway. They were very nice about the situation, and said they would give me a free advanced replacement for the system. So, I decided to do it.

So I received my new DS with no trouble. Once I opened it, the system appeared to be unflawed, and he screen and buttons were good, but boy was I wrong. I had it for about a week, and noticed nothing. Then I tried to play for extended periods of time and discovered that the system would simply shut down after approximately 10 minutes of gameplay. I decided to call Nintendo once again and have it replaced. Once again, they were very kind and gave me an advanced replacement. They have rarely ever heard of this problem and I figured I was getting pretty unlucky.

So on to my next DS. This one just started out terrible, right from the start. When I first opened it and turned it on, I noticed right away three stuck pixels. One was green, and two were red. two on the bottom screen, one on the top. The next thing I noticed was an insensitive R button. I had the press the R button very hard for it to do anything. About a week later, I was already planning to get it replaced, and I noticed a very big crack on the hinge. I mean, I treated all of my DS's with great care... I don't deserve this!!! So I decided to call Nintendo, once again. This time was not the same, they refused to give me advanced replacement, and said the problem has been resolved with the crack hinge, and they never give AR with pixel flaws. Obiviously they didn't fix the crack problem BECUASE I HAVE IIITTTT!!! Now I was a bit angry. I would have to send the DS in, it would take a few weeks. It was around christmas, and I had just gotten new games. I think that this problem was far worse than my other problems, and they wouldn't give my AR! So I waited... a long time... actually, just yesterday I sent in my DS. Now I can't play my DS for a while and I'm bored. That is partly the reason why I am making this topic. I am definitly fusterated with Nintendo. I love the system, but why the heck do they keep sending me messed up ones!

I can only hope that the next DS I get will be unflawed, but I just don't know. If I get another one that is flawed in some way I am going to freak out, and send Nintendo HateMail (Joking). But I will definitly complain hardcore. Anyone else have problems like this? I never even heard of some of the problems I got. How common are problems like this? Am I just unlucky?

UPDATE : I now have received my repared system ( well, partially repared ) they replace the whole upper portion of my sytem, reparing the cracked hinge, and one of the stuck pixels... however they didn't do anything about the two other stuck pixels on the bottom screen... This freakin sucks... I am starting to really hate nintendos service. I am so mad....

I have had real problems with my ds too. i got my first ds a couple months ago and i had the same thing happen with the unsensitive r button so i was like ok and brought it to ebgames where i had bought it and they gladly gave me a new one and it looked fine but then i looked at the bottom screen and there was a big yellow splotch on the screen so again! i brought it back to eb and they gave me another this one was also wrecked it had a giant line running across the whole bottom screen so again i took it back to eb and they gave me another. this time its a pink one:P thats all they had in stock and its past the 2 weeks tha i can return it so im praying that nothing screws up with this one and i have to call nintendo.

By the way pink is the best!!!! u can barley notice and smudges or scratches or anyhting on it, and i know because i have had all the three colours

I got two Black DSL from two different stores with ghosting problems. The second one isnt really that bad, and I figure Ill get used to it, so I kept it. I sorta know how ya feel. Out of 1,000,000 DS's, ya get the one with a problem. Then, when you return/get yours fixxed, you get another one with a defect. The chances of that happening, and it still happens. Just plain Bad luck.

It's a pixel on the DS that remains a certain color, no matter what's happening on-screen.  A dead pixel doesn't light up at all.

That's weird; I didn't think Nintendo would repair the top part instead of just sending you a new one.  Well, you seem very unlucky indeed, but I wish you the best with your 'new' DS Lite.  Oh, and just a note, but sometimes, rarely but sometimes, dead / stuck pixels go away with time, so let's hope for the best :)

It's a pixel on the DS that remains a certain color, no matter what's happening on-screen.  A dead pixel doesn't light up at all.

You can get that with any lcd screen. Also, mine has been operating superbly from day 1. But just in case, I got the extended warranty from Best Buy. Just in case.

I've had to replace 5 DSlites.  The first one was a hinge crack and desensitized R button.  Second one came back with a stuck pixel and desensitized R button, the Third one worked fine until both the R and the L buttons stopped working, and the 4th one got a hinge crack until 3 months later the L button stopped working again.  Now i'm on my 5th one and the L button just crapped out on me again. Then my Wii gets disc read errors unless it's on it's side, and two GC's have had overheating issues with the fans breaking.  Meanwhile my PSP, PS2, and X-box all work fine so I know it's not me with Sony's bad reputation for consoles >:(

2. I dont know what the hinge is on a DS either, and was too nervous to ask. Good job!
