So it's almost March now and I still don't have a Wii yet.  I wanted one at Christmas time but I couldn't get it because of the seriously high demand for the system, so I (like many other people out there) have been trying to find one ever since.  Last Monday, after waking up at 6:00 a.m in the morning and driving to my nearest Best Buy only to be disappointed again, I decided I was going to get some of my frustration out by sending this letter to Nintendo:

To:          Nintendo     From:          Max McClain, repeat customer     Re:          Nintendo Wii system

 Dear Sir or Madam:

We have been trying to purchase the Wii system since its launch in November. When we were forced to the realization that there was no way to get the system for Christmas, my son agreed to wait for his present until we could finally find the Wii system, after Christmas. It is now clear that we are not going to be able to get a Wii system from any of your re-sellers at any point in the foreseeable future.

We have repeatedly tried to purchase the Wii at:  Best Buy (five locations), Future Shop (four locations), Wal Mart (four locations), Toys R Us (two locations), Electronics Boutique (four locations), and anyone else who advertised the system. We live in Canada and we have driven from Etobicoke to Ajax, and from Toronto to Newmarket, all to no avail.

The reason we are now giving up is two-fold:  Firstly, we are tired of being laughed at whenever we ask the re-sellers when, or if, they might get a Wii system in (it is embarrassing to be openly mocked by a $5.00 per hour store clerks). Secondly, the re-sellers have now stopped advertising the Wii system either in their flyers, or in their stores. They have told us there is no use leaving the empty boxes out, as it just results in customers asking when the system may be available. In short, your re-sellers are tired of being asked any questions about your Wii system.

The funniest example we ran into was at an Electronics Boutique in York Region where a hand-made sign on the door said:  "WE  DON'T  HAVE Wii, SO  DON'T  ASK!"

As a family that enjoyed the Nintendo Game Boy, Game Boy Advanced, Nintendo 64 and the Nintendo Game Cube, together with all the games and peripherals, we are very disappointed.

We are now going to spend our money on the PS3. Despite the fact it costs significantly more, it will save us time and further disappointment in your company.

Sincerely,   Max McClain

I'm not actually going to buy a PS3, I still want a Wii.  I do admit that this is probably a little much but I'm really interested to see what Nintendo is going to say back (if anything at all).

have you considered the walmart.com online store? they have a bundle in stock. granted it costs as much as a ps3, but it comes with 7 games. Since most of the games out appeal more to children, its not for me (or a lot of people) but maybe it is right up your alley.

Sounds fake to me.  If Nintendo could put more out to meet demand, they would.  Your letter changes nothing.

Why would that be relevant to the letter in any way? And if you were meaning for him to whine like an idiot about friend codes when you will be able to fight random people I don't see why.

You can't really blame Nintendo for the fact that you personally can't find a system. I live in the middle of nowhere in Oklahoma and got one on launch day, so there's really no excuse as far as area is concerned. Unless you're of the opinion that Nintendo shouldn't have launched the console until there was one available for anyone who could possibly want one. But then where's the hype if they aren't flying off store shelves? If little Johnny or whatever can't wait it out (or try some different stores where the clerks aren't rude to you) then he deserves the inferior quality of the PS3.

Jesus... It's impossible to tell if someone is kidding in a forum. And I am not exactly a fanboy.

Why can't people see irony :(

You are a fool.
Do you honestly think Nintendo is sitting there saying, "Even though people are willing to spend money our system, we should intentionally fail to meet the demand. Mwahahahaha!"
Please.
You may have been the only person who wanted a GC, but the Wii is different. Lots of people want it therefore it is sold out. If you really want one, be creative.  I got one in January at a Wal-Mart, so they aren't impossible to find.

I feel sorry for you, but you can't blame Nintendo.  The Wii has sold over 5 million units.  That's as if over 1 person in 7 in Canada has one.  The demand is huge, and it is simply impossible to meet it.  As for the PS3, if it is not too late, I would advise you to go with the Xbox 360.  You mentioned your child, and the 360 has more children's games than the PS3 (Viva Pinata all the way :)), and it is less expensive too.  It's your choice, but I must disagree on all counts.
PS-Try online.  I got my online before launch in a $450 (American) bundle that was quite fair and good.

Look, I can understand that you are frustrated and I do sympathize.  But you have managed to tangle several issues together.  You've somehow tried to blame Nintendo for the fact that people in the stores are jerks, as if they have some control over this.
First of the people in the stores get asked that same question hundreds of times per day.  If you had some random person come up to you, every day since November, asking you if you had something, everyday and acting like YOU somehow have control over what Nintendo does in terms of shipping, just cause you happen to be wearing a blue vest, you'd get pretty pissed too.  That's not to say they should be rude, but you need to try and show a little understanding for their situation.
Next, it's not like their sales are at a standstill, and they aren't shipping anything.  They simply can't meet demand fast enough.  It's unfortunate, but what would you rather have happen?  Would you rather pay more so they can employ more workers/build more factories/buy more parts faster?
The fact of the matter is that it sucks for everyone.  Ninentendo isn't doing themselves any favors by not selling more units.  It's not like they get any more money if people buy them and resell them for tons more, they only charge the stores what they charge them in the first place.  If they could do it, they would make more so they can....yup make more money.
Some letter that appears made up isn't going to help you or them at all.  I'm sure there's a few execs at Nintendo pulling their hair out too attempting to figure out a way to make more out of what they have.  Threatening to buy a PS3 does little as well.  Either you are the customer that wants a Wii, or you are the customer that wans "a game system, any new game system".   If that's all you are after, they have no reason to try and satisfy you, after all right now they have plenty of people that are willing to wait for they system they are selling.

So you spend your free time wasting Nintendo's time?
I guess it's something to do but I'd rather you not bother them since you're taking advantage of their already perfect cusomter service.

It's people like you that drag down customer service for the rest of us.

Yeah, dont be a jerk about it. It's not Nintendo's fault. They ship freaking 1 million wii's a month. It's just that everyone wants one. If you want to waste $600 of your money on a PS3, that's fine with me...

This is the third "My letter to Nintendo" thread I've seen in the past few days. Why can't you people figure out that they don't care about your lack of ability to find a Wii? You find out who's getting it where and when, and you wait patiently for it. I camped out 13 hours for mine in November, and I'm more the man for it. Put in realistic effort and you'll find one. Also, it's up to them to decide how many they produce, if they want to keep it scarce they will(They really aren't trying to do so, they're working as fast as possible without sacrificing quality). They're working hard and they don't care that you're not trying hard enough. If you really, truly want one, you'll either take the measures necessary to get one or obtain some patience. Oh, and the minimum wage is up over 7 dollars now.

You're letter shows nothing but foolishness. You can't find a Wii? Its been on high demand since November, so you woul either have to be at a store REAL early to get a chance. You're anger towards the clerks is off point and doesn't have to do with you finding a Wii, even mentioning their salary makes you look like a fool who is just saying things out of frustration. Its not their fault that you can't get one, they are just doing their job.

You're not the only one who can't find a Wii, there r many people out there that haven't gotten a Wii just like you, but are willing to wait paitiently because they can't do anything about it anyway, just like you. Therefore, you're letter won't make a difference, so you're gonna have to wait like the rest.

Lol that letter is the most immature thing I've ever seen. And you have a kid? God help him.

1. Its capitalism. you dont get the system? boo hoo! Since when is writing a letter to a company going to do? Do you have some pipe dream that they are going to send you a new Wii with a whole plethora of games in an apology? I doubt it.

2. Why would anyone feel embarrassed if an employee makes fun of you. 1. they are in the wrong and 2. you shouldnt care so just leave.

3. Your not alone. well obviously you cant find one because there are people trying to nab one all over the place. 6am isnt good enough, camp out all night if you want one. Thats what you would do if you were going to really try.

4. Oh wow threatening to buy a PS3.  That is going to make no impact, thats like telling one of those 5 dollar an hour workers, you talk about, that you were going to go find a wii somewhere else.  what do they care?  Big whoop. Iwata isnt going to be reading the letter.

wow max u sir are very ineffective. My Friend whose 17 bought like 5 wii's in the last 4 months. We lined up on launch date as well. Now if u wait1 hr before store opens u should be able to get one no problem.

My friend sold all the Wii's on EBAY. They were at like 350 but im pretty sure theyve lowered by now. It's not that hard to get a wii. Before u go to a friggen store u call in first. WHY THE HECK would u waste money on gas just to find out dissapointment. I Honestly think u deserve not to have a wii and wasted all that time. Because its ur fault entirely for not using common sense.

What u do is u go on bestbuy.com /  or whatever company. Find the locations near u, ASK when they will restock. Usually ull be speaking to the manager not a 5.00 clerk that doesnt give a crap about ur sorry ignorant self.

They'll just throw the letter in a carbage can that contains the previous one

People take things far too personally. I'm sure Nintendo would love to sell you a system- hell, they'd love you to buy five. But the Wii is in ultra-high demand. There's no "Do Not Sell To" list at Nintendo hq with your name on it. Just be grateful that you don't live in Japan and want a DS.

wow max u sir are very ineffective.

I Honestly think u deserve not to have a wii and wasted all that time. thats one of the main reasons the Wii's are still sold out... people keep buying them whenever they see one regardless if they want one or already have one and sell them on ebay.

[QUOTE="kokopelli76"]Look, I can understand that you are frustrated and I do sympathize.
If that's all you are after, they have no reason to try and satisfy you, after all right now they have plenty of people that are willing to wait for they system they are selling.

...what he said!

Definitely one of the better wall of texts I've read. End thread.

Regardless, that's not Nintendo's fault.

Im sure Nintendo care about the Wii selling out none stop with no sign of slow down. It must pain them that YOU can't get a Wii. In fact i think all Nintendo operations will now stop until they can get a Wii to you. Or you should have just used your head, done a little research pre-launch and got up very early, or not gone to sleep the day before launch. I got 2 Wii's on launch (one for me i had pre-orderd, one for my friend i got him from cuing up from midnight for a 8am opening). There was enough for all die hard must own a Wii, Nintendo fans. Others just have to wait a little.

It's all about personal responsibility.
If you want a Wii then you figure out how to get a Wii

That means you taking the time to figure out when they'll be in stock then showing up early enough to get one.
Don't complain to Nintendo because you failed to get there at the right time.

Thanks to ITrackr.com I found mine in a local Target. The web site actually works I recommend to everyone who hasnt tried it. (Dont look at the gamestop availabilities because they are way too slow. Just focus on Target or other retailers except gamestop.) Once you notice its available call the store and ask them to hold one for you. Target can hold something for you for 2 hours max until you get there. no need to bother calling a million stores every day, just let the website do its work.

No offense but thats probably the most idiotic thing i have ever heard. if you really wanted one and were that dedicated, (as im sure you are as in your original post you have given substantial #s of how many stores you have been to), all you would really do is take some time out of your lives, bite the bullet and camp.

all you need to do is find out when the store (of your choosing) is getting a new shipment in. camp out in front of the store over night and get one. i camped out on launch day for 11 hours and got one. there is no way that after 4 months of the system being out that you would need to camp out nearly as long as i did. it just takes a little commitment.

Instead you whine to Nintendo about your "problem" when instead you could just ball up and camp. Have fun with your PS3. btw y in the **** would you buy a ps3 over a 360, another stupid decision.

Yeah, I just started my Wii hunt last Thursday.... No luck. I heard my local Walmart had some in Friday morning.. But I go to school. So the morning is not an option for me. I hear that Nintendo will have a decent sized shipment.... In two weeks. Oh well, Im a patient man. I guess I can wait two weeks. good thing I have a PS2. Hopefully though I can find a Wii before then. The people at Walamrt tell me Wii come in on a weekly basis.

[QUOTE="mrphilip11"][QUOTE="Evilsmiler"][QUOTE="mrphilip11"]

[QUOTE="Evilsmiler"]Any chance you could throw in the issue of having friend code lists for online multiplayer when it comes out? just a thought :wink:manicfoot

Why would that be relevant to the letter in any way? And if you were meaning for him to whine like an idiot about friend codes when you will be able to fight random people I don't see why.

I was only kidding so calm down! god these fanboys today i tell ya

Jesus... It's impossible to tell if someone is kidding in a forum. And I am not exactly a fanboy.

Why can't people see irony :(

Why not ake the money you spent in gas going to all these different stores and get one on eBay. I'm sure it'll more than make up for the markup. Plus it's alot easier.

You are going to spend $600 on a PS3, when you could just spend $350 USD for a Wii on eBay?  Riiiiiiiiiiiight.

So true.

Well see the Canadian numbers in January.

http://www.codenamerevolution.com/?p=4330

Wii - 34,000
PS2 - 27,000
360 - 14,400
PS3 - 6,800
