I predict that Nintendo is going to make a Zelda in which you can use the WiiMote to swing the sword, with control of the particular slashes much like everyone wanted in the first place.

They have quite a few WiiMote gun games for Wii where you actually get to aim with the WiiMote, but not a lot of sword games and I think this is the reason they are taking so long to announce anything is because they want to get it right.

I really hope this is the case.

Wow who would have ever thought that Nintendo would release the next Zelda with motion controls? Genious!

Yes, but they're poorly implemented. It's pretty much the definition of "waggle" controls.

I don't believe Nintendo is going to use motion sensor for the next zelda... It's not like motion sensor is important for the Wii or something... and controlling links's sword with your wii-controller, that's not really going to work...

yeah love being sarcastic

joesh89

Yes and no.

Technically, they did. You "shake" the wiimote to swing the sword, but this feature is so stupid.

I want sword combat where the sword on screen moves with the wiimote, so if the user "stabs" with the wiimote, Link will "stab" on screen.

Probably not yet, but it should be able to happen when Motion+ comes out.

very interesting, i was massively disappointed when i first played red steel and it didn't have sword play like that, and because of that i haven't bothered with the wii since it was launched, until recently. when i played mario kart wii. and it put my interest back in the system, if this is the future of motion control for wii games, i'd buy into it.

From what we saw of Sports Resort I think they're about 75-80% there

The sword slashing was still awful and we were told that the person doing the demo wasn't used to it. Well considering all you need to do is swing the Wiimote if it's not seeing that every time there's still a few bugs to get out.

That was a long time ago though, I expect they have it working by now.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks the sword controls in TP were bad. I had no problem at all. I rather enjoyed it actually.:D And IR aiming for the bow and hookshot is extra icing on the tasty Wiimote cake.

I think they'll probably make the game mostly revolve around using the wii motion +, to where every movement of your arm and hand would but put into the game, that would be real sweet :D

Both Red Steel and TP feature a very archaic movement recognition, only able to tell in which direction the wiimote is shaken and not much else. It's a software limitation, though, since both the motion sensor and the IR camera of the wiimote can and have been used in a variety of homebrew applications, with stunning results. When (and, at this point, 'if') a new Zelda will come, it might feature freehand sword controls. The technology is here, we just need the software to take advantage of it.

Wii Motion-Plus should make the next Wii Zelda game even better than TP (which was great to begin with).

they were not bad at all they just were not precise. you could swing the remote one way and your sword would sing the other onscreen.
