Hey guys
First of all, the pictures in this thread are big.
Lets begin with a controller mockup I made some time ago, which you can see here:
Phat version
Slim version
In short: Touch screen, 3D slider (just for the fun of it), 2 front speakers and 1 rear "subwoofer/surround" speaker, headphone jack, information lights and the basic buttons and sticks. Four shoulder buttons along with two trigger buttons on the back, very suitable for racing games for example.

Then there was a second controller, which I personally like better. It's a giant screen mixed with a Gamecube-esque handles. Yes, the circles overlap the screen, I like that look for some reason. It's basically the same funtionality as the first controller, but might fit petter in your hands plus there is no 3D slider here. I made the menu interface for it also.
Second controller
The idea behind the interface is that you get a mini version of the console menu on the controller screen. You can do everything there, as you can see: Emails, browse the net, read news, check rankings, listen to music, watch movies, write notes, chat with friends.. You also get an action log, to see what your friends are doing. The color of the interface, here in red, could also be changed to your liking.
When selecting a game, you would slide your finger from one side to the other and the games roll from side to side, kinda like on the iPod/iPad I guess. As you can see, the four games to left and right are represented by logos, but the center game, Metroid Prime 3 in this case, has Samus coming out of the icon. If you had Mario Galaxy 2 in the center, you would for example have Mario on Yoshi coming out of the icon. So the center icon is always the action-icon.
Up in the left corner you got your status icons: Battery, WiFi on/off, Stream on/off and Bluetooth on/off. Up in the right you have your online shop credits and brightness setting.

Now there have been dozens of controller and console mockups on the net, and many are way better than mine.. but since I enjoy making this kind of stuff, I wanted to get your opinion on what can be done better. I don't know how to do fancy 3D graphics, to make it pop out more, so flat images are the thing for me. I would love to see my console in 3D model.
The new console is rumored to look a bit like the NES. So I wanted to make something out of that. My mockup has NES, SNES and Wii all mixed in one. The NES parts are obvious, but look at the console from the top and you might see a hint of the SNES top view. The CD slot is borrowed from the Wii. The main casing is dark gray in matte finish, circled around by brushed aluminium/steel. It's very basic, because I wanted to make a console that looks nice in your living room, and does not look like a George Foreman grill or something that make people go "What the F is that?". I put my second controller design with it, to give my little mockup a more complete look.
So, my idea of how the console might look, or my idea on a nice looking console actually, is this:
Nintendo Stream console with second controller
I wanted to implement an information screen into the front of the console. I had various ideas floating around, tried them but never liked the look of it so I was at the brink of just skipping it. Then on IGN, I saw a mockup made my Aaron Carr, where he used the NES black square there as a screen. I liked it and borrowed the idea and it worked very well. In return, I got a big, clean space on the front of the console which made it look better. Sometimes, less is more.
My little dilemma is the top of the console. I'm never fully satisfied with it. I've made a few versions of it, so I need your opinion on what looks the best or what I can do to make it look better. All ideas are appreciated.
So these are the versions that I've made:
Version 1
Just a "Stream" logo I made, to put something there. The logo is a big S in a sphere, which is supposed to represent a Globe and an Eye. For "internet/connection" and "Entertainment". Or you can just imagine it's a basketball.
Version 2
Same logo, with backlit outlines.
Version 3
Backlit logo moved up, brighter color to make it stand more out. Engraved Nintendo logo between the two NES black squares.
Version 4
No "Stream" logo, Nintendo logo still at the top, but bigger cooling grille/vent and the aluminium casing has been stretched up. Mind that the aluminum is sloped down, to match the slope seen on the front of the console and the cooling grille/vent are sloped into the console.
I might update this thread with more ideas I'm messing around with, but for now I just wanted your opinon on what I have created as of now. Does it suck? Any good? What version of the top is the best?
Thanks
Arnar
