I recently had issues with my Wii. I was seeing tiny black dots on my VC start up screen.  I called Nintendo and they walked me through the reoutine of checking the connection, looking at it on a diffedrent screen, etc..  you know, all the 1st level tech stuff.  Then they asked me for a 2 hour window in which they could have level 2 tech return my call.  I gave em a time, and then came here.

I was directed to this link

by ossas81 (thanks) and started looking at other articles kinda touching on this.  As it turns out, the problem seems to be that the GPU got too hot possibly from being in standby mode all the time.  Mine was always in standby from launch day, but I can not recall it ever being "hot"... maybe warm but I do not recall "HOT".  Although, I don't touch it that much becasue it is in an upright position and in an entertainment system.  I called Nintend back this afternoon, gave me my name and number, and explained what I thought the issue was. I was given an option on a solution, and told that this has happened on less than 1% of the units sold, but it was an issue that was being looked into.  My options were, send mine in for repair, or they would send me a new one, and I return the old one.  I decided to take the new one. Now I do lose my 2000 points worth of VC games, my saves, and some pictures, but I can transfer the Miis via the Wiimote.

I am happy with the fast service they are giving me, but can't understand why they would have not told me all this to begin with.  Maybe they were going to do some more checking to make sure that is what the issue was, but when they told me this is a known issue, why make me wait?

I wanted to post this here in case anyone else is having this type of problem, and also the link shows some photos of what the problem would look like.  Mine was very visable on the VC games startup and even more visible when you hit the Home button and that white screen pops up.  Hope this helps, and I hope this new Wii doesn't have any issues with it.

You should told them you have VC downloads or points.. Perhaps, if you call them again, explain you had Wii points but did not realise you would lose them by gaining a new machine. Perhaps they can look into it, and refurnish your points.. I mean its 20+ dollars you spent, saves are that important [a big bummer but nothing too bad].

I hate to sound like a noobie but Wii's overheat???? How????? I usually always keep mine in standby mode but it usually gets turned off because it shares the same power outlet with my living room lamp.. It's easier to simply hit the switch on the wall as opposed to turning off all the lights.. I think its cool how nintendo sends us messages..neither MS or Sony sent me anything concerning their respective systems..

If you actually read the post. Nintendo said that it occurs to less that 1% or all units sold. Nothing big.

That's exactly what happened to my Wii. I've waited for 6 weeks now to get a new one. Nintendo of Sweden sucks - big time.

Not True.............. Nintendo will move your games to the new system.

This is exactly what's happening with my Wii, but I don't think it happens with VC games just with all the Wii games I own and on the Wii menu itself.

Actually, I am taking the option where they send me a new one, and I send the old one back, so there will be no transfer of anything to the new one.  If you send your in for repair, it will come back with you stuff on it.

On the Mii's, you can load them onto your wiimote, and then drop them on another system.

And I had this one since launch day, ran it for a couple of weeks, then wrapped up for Christmas.... So basically it has been on or in standby mode, since launch day minus 2 weeks or so.  But I have played it str8 for over 16 hours at a time, and problem just started a few days ago.
