I've read several places that actually having Wifi24 on, 24 hours a day is not a problem. A few times I had noticed a pretty significant amount of warmth on the left side of my console but figured everything was ok.

Today I turned on my Wii to find horrendous black and grey static-like lines running up and down my screen. I tried changing back to the composite cables and I even changed televisions, the static remained. I called Nintendo who asked me specifically if I had left wifi connect24 on at all times, couldn't tell me what was the matter with my system.

I also asked if there were preventative measures I could take to make sure this didn't happen again. I was told to keep my Wii in a well ventilated place and this is all the manual says, as well. All 8 of my consoles are on a bookcase and I've never had a overheating problem before.

I wonder, has anyone else had this problem? or has anyone purchased a cooling fan stand for Wii? How well do they actually work?

If it overheated there's not a thing you could do (well unplug and never use it I guess)

It's a heatsink that's not placed correctly on the board. It shows up from Wiiconnect 24 being on or off but it takes longer to present itself from just playing games.

They'll get you a new one or fix the old one (whichever you choose) and you'll be good to go.

Depends. So far after replacing my Wii twice, all 3 of my consoles had/have this 'heatsink' thing.. :(

Were they able to replace your game play memory and info and such, each time? Was your heat sink issue in the form of graphical static also?

Sorry but there is only you to blame for this, Wii's just do not overheat. I can literally play my Wii for 5 hours, and the back of it is COOL! I can actually feel COLD air coming out of it.

Its not the smartest Idea to leave the Wii on for 24 hours. Are you keeping it on the carpet or something?

Connect all your devices to a power bar so they don't have to be left on standby and will not overheat.

Also you will extend the life of your devices by having them not on standby all the time, and also use less hydro in the long run.

Thx..

To the poster... sorry as you can see I do not have anything to offer, exc maybe try leaving it off for 1-2 days. Thus I would try geting a replace better.

go into the menu and disable the option for wii-coneect24.

i really wish nintendo would release and offical statement as to what is causing this problem, the have fixed a ton of consoles with this problem so they must know what is causing it by now, and if it is wii-connect causing it just admit it, its not like its a big feature.

Damn that sucks. I just sent mine in last week for the same problem and now i'm going to have to play halfway through both zelda and metroid. Which normally wouldnt be too bad since they are both great games but I'm so busy with other things it takes me like ten times as long as the normal person to get that far. And I wanted to finish them before getting NMH and Brawl. Oh well, I'll prob just get those two and play through them all at the same time. Will take some time so I should be set for the year on games.

Ill be turning mine off completely and then unplugging for now on. Too much of a headache to have to send an expensive piece of electronics back in.

Well, I'm stoked that your Wii is in great working order. I am, however concerned about your inability to read.

I don't normally keep carpet on my bookcases.

WiFi Connect24 is also known as 'stand by' mode.

Apparently this is a pretty common issue. If there seems to be a manufacturer's defect, how am I to blame?

Sounds like this is Nintendo's red ring of death. I haven't experienced this w/ my system, but I think they should extend the warranties on Wii's w/ this problem. It isn't fair to have to pay for a problem thats their own fault, especially if it is a problem that shows up over time...

I feel for anyone no longer covered by the warranty.

Seriously.

I had an Xbox that stopped reading discs two days after my warranty was up. Microsoft told me I was out of luck(and were downright rude about it) but they would be happy to sell me a whole new system! I was extremely upset, as the exact same thing happened to a friend of mine.

So, I went to Target to buy a new system, stuck the old defective system in the box and returned for a full refund. Target sent it back to Microsoft and now I have a working Xbox again. Not a noble move, by any means, but I was angry and feeling ripped off.

Too bad it's far easier to come up with repair money than it is to come by a Wii on a store shelf.

YEAH!! I mean... Who in hell can be stupid enough to leave Wiiconnect24 conneced 24 hours a day!?! LOL, It just doesn't make sense!!
I mean if it was called Wiiconnect12, then YES by all means leave it connected all day long... But with Wiiconnect24, it's like the makers are telling you not to leave it on 24 hours O_O

Well me personally, I always plug all of my consoles out at the wall socket. Unless you are downloading something, there is no need for them to be on.

So I suggest when you are not using your Wii, plug it out at the wall.

I also keep my Wii on the floor, my floor happens to be floorboards. Putting on the floorboards give it heaps and heaps of room to breathe, also keeps it cool because most floorboards do not gather any heat.

you keep bringing up the misplaced heatsink which is a falid reason. For one, a misplaced heatsink doesn't matter if its not actively cooled! And secondly, the Wii is WAAAAY hotter in stanby than When powered on So although a misplaced heatsink could cause a few degrees rise in the temps, it still won't cause damage to the silicon die. I blame leaving it on stanby, and I STANDBY that claim :P
