It has the red light like if it was turned on, and I press the button and nothing happens like if I wouldn't be pressing it at all. Any ideas?

Just hold the power button, or try unplugging your Wii and plugging it back in.

Then the next step is to try unhooking all the cables and reattaching them (on the Wii and the plug in the wall outlet). If there's still nothing, then try using a different wall outlet. Beyond that, you'll have to send it in to Nintendo.

do you usually leave it on standby like when the yellow light is on? because I know you have to hold the power but on the wii for a few seconds to actually turn it off (red).

After you press the power button, try pressing any button the Wii remote. If the four lights flash for a bit then only the first one stays lit, then the Wii is on but you're not getting any sound or video for some reason. If the four lights just keep flashing, then the Wii isn't on at all and your problems are bigger. :?

Have you tried ejecting the game that's in it, or if there isn't a game in it, have you tried putting one in? That's another test you can do to see if the Wii is actually on or not. If the disc drive ejects or accepts discs, then the Wii is on, or it will turn itself on in order to accept or eject the disc.

It's possible that either the power outlet you're using doesn't work or that the wire connecting the Wii to the power outlet might not be functioning properly.

My brother had a Wii when it launched and his did the same thing. We just unplugged everything and left it out overnight and then plugged it in the next day and it worked. We heard something about the standby mode (yellow light) overheating the console so we always turn it off now. You might try that and if that doesn't work, Nintendo has great customer support.

Good luck and I hope your Wii starts working. If not though Nintendo really does have great support. Any time I needed a console replaced they actually sent me the replacement console and then I sent the broken one back. This is a much better way than sending me a box, me sending a console, and finally them sending one.

can anybody help me? I just got my Wii, and when I tried to turn it on, the wiimote nor the button would work, and everything is plugged in correctly, sensor bar working Wiimotes synced, and the red light was on, and I already called Nintendo. Help?

How do you know the wii remote is synced? What lights are showing on the wii remote? If you're seeing just one light showing constant on the remote, then the wii is on. You might not have you're tv to the right station. If you're using AV cables, make sure you're tv is on the right AV/video channel. When the wii is on, it's light will be green. If it's staying red when you push power, then the steps mentioned already in this thread are the best answers I can think of.

I had this problem... I found stroking the wii and talking to it like it was a sexy beast solved all of my problems. I wish I was making this up....but that's the only thing that worked. Good luck!

Try plugging it into a different power socket. And make sure the circit breaker hasnt tripped. Its crazy I know, but it has happened to me before...
