I don't think it will be the same on the DS. The screen doesn't have as high a resolution to display the beautiful graphics and the ambient sound won't work as well either.
And you can buy a box set with the first 3 Myst games calledMyst 10th Anniversary DVD Edition which has Myst Masterpiece Edition and will run on XP. It costs about $20 for the set.

Are you kidding me? The game came out in '93, during the SNES days. The DS kinda mimics N64 quality capabilities. I think it can handle Myst. And if you've seen screenshots or the gameplay vid or two that are out there, you'd see that it definitely works.
As for the comment about the DVD edition, it's more trouble than it's worth. I've had it for three years now, and I STILL can't get the Myst version to work, the Riven version works but only because I have an ancient version of Quicktime downloaded and a bunch of specific in-game settings checked, and Exile usually works, though not at as good a quality as I remember my original copy running with. It's crap, overall.
I'm psyched about Myst DS because for once, finally, since '93-94, I'll be able to play Myst without having to worry about game crashes, freezing, or crappy staticky sound.
Anyone know when it will be released?

I think the current date is December 7, but it's only in Europe so you'd have to import somehow (Amazon.co.uk doesn't send video games to the US).

It's an issue of resolution or amount of pixels on the screen.

oh, well in that case, wouldn't the fact that it's a much smaller screen than the typical computer screen equate to a much better handle on the amount of pixels?
Yes I saw it while picking out some game's for christmas the way the 3D grapic's are they can add those to Assasin's Creed DS so awesome!!!HP-Pavilion
where do you live that you saw Myst DS in a game store?
I never played Myst, so if it came to the DS i'd give it a try. Given the fact i have heard some good word of mouth on Myst. And on a side note i have played a spoof game called "Pyst" for the PC and i think it had John Goodman playing a king you see in the reflection of a crummy hot tub somewhere in the game.Cypher_VR
I've played all five Myst games (not Uru). And Pyst! Oh man, I remember that. And yeah, John Goodman was in it.

No the pixels are also bigger meaning they cannot show as much detail.*ignores gamespot yet again*

Yeah... sometimes you need to, and it's a good thing. I found that the critique of "WarHammer 40K: Squad Command" was far too harsh and the game is actually infinitely more playable than the site gave it credit for. I'm not saying they were flat-out wrong, I can see where if you had to review the game and there were a few others that you needed to get to in order to make the rent that month, then it would be pretty easy to blanket some game issues in a few paragraphs and move on. Reviewers are not always fans of the games and genres they are asked to write about, alsways keep that in mind.
Every time I read another fool writing about the newest NASCAR game, making jokes about goin' fast and turnin' left and how boring it is, I'm reminded of how little they understand about the science and the strategy of the sport. I buy the game, and BEHOLD... it's actually fun and plays great.
Why don't you just get the PC version. You can get a far superior version in a box set along with Riven & Myst 3 all for $10 cheaper than Myst DS.vauba_haoly
For the same reason, I'm sure, that I originally bought "Wolfenstein 3D", "DOOM", and "DOOM II" for my GBA after paying the shareware and then buying the games a few times over and over on the PC, in varrying itterations and collector's sets...
... because you can now have that game in your POCKET.
I know laptops aren't all that tough to transport, I have a few of them for work and play, but there's somethin' about being able to play those games on a no-nonsense, easy to boot & play, handheld gaming system that tickles the inner fan. Perhaps you aren't old enough to have nostalgic trips like this yet, but for me, being able to play "Time Pilot" on a unit the size of my shirt pocket is just too convenient and therefor too geeky-cool to pass up.
Screw reviewers, they usually have some sort of jaded problem about games that aren't "Madden", "GTA", or "HALO". As a fan, I am able to overcome a lot of small problems when I like the subject matter... I've been burned, the most recent Godzilla game for the DS is a COMPLETE joke and I should have listened... but a lot of other times I have been pleasantly suprised at how wrong the reviewer was when it comes to games that I like.
If you want to play through "Myst" again, doing it on the DS, I say go for it. I've got "REEL FISHING" for a variety of systems and people poke all MANNER of fun at that "boring" franchise, but they just don't see the beauty in sitting quietly, angling for that perfect catch... they want "Ikaruga".
Party on, that frenetic crud gives me epileptic fits.
To be able to play any of these old chestnuts outa your pocket is pretty cool though, you gotta admit... no matter if it's "Myst" or "Ikaruga".
I understand the novelty of having a handheld version of some games but not Myst. Myst is a game best experienced in a tranquil setting with the lights off and the sound up, not on a tiny low resolution screen. Isn't playing the game how it was meant to be played with good graphics and sound and controls a better novelty than portability.
I agree that you shouldn't take reviews as gospel but when most places are giving a game about 3 out of 10 that's a good sign that it's not going to be any good. It's not reviewers that have a problem with games that aren't madden, GTA, or Halo. That would be the average gamer. Reviewers on the other hand complain that no one played Okami or Psychonauts.
