I'm going to be cautiously optimistic.

I'm going to be a step behind you and just be cautious. It's not that I think that the Wii U installment of SSB is heading towards anything disasterous, especially since Sakurai will apparently still be directing the game. Still, that's not to say that I don't see the next game possibly heading in a different direction. Although I suspect such a change in direction to be minor, I still think it's enough to make a profound difference in a series like this. The fighting game genre is one that can be fickle at times, and I do wonder what input that developers from somewhere as heavy on the genre as Namco Bandai will give as the game's development goes on.
Quite often this gen, we've heard the comparisons and contrasts between Brawl and Melee, so there's obviously a balancing act that Sakurai and co. will have to engage in and determine the kind of pacing and gameplay that they will aim for. And this is where I think the actual development team will have a say on the matter, since they will probably try to put a stamp on the game more suitable to their preferences of the genre. That's not to say that I expect that next SSB to play like a Tekken, but there is part of me that worries about the identity of the game getting too 'serious' for its own good. That said, it's WAY too soon to jump to any conclusions, but there's no doubt that I'll have my eyes on whatever is said and done from this point on.
