I own first nintendo ds (not lite but that original fattie) and I've started to think about buying an upgrade. At first I thought about waiting till march and buying 3ds but imo 3D is cool but 300 bucks for handheld console that's like too much

maybe I should approach for NDSi and just miss some 3d exclusive titles?

I'd say wait for an official price announcement from Nintendo about the 3DS. When converted to American dollars, the Japanese price is $300, but things in Japan are always more expensive than things sold in the states so it's very doubtful that it will actually be $300.

some?DS wont last more than one year or 2 with new games.3ds will get the new ones from now on.It would be like buying a gameboy advance micro right now.Not the best choice.Besides the pricing is not set in stone. Id say that buying a DSI right now(since you got a phat) is a horrible waste considering 3ds will get the newer and obviously much better looking games. Basically i got phat. If i got DSI i cant play new games, since DS games= DSI games.Except DSIware. So for DSIware alone you will be paying over 100 dollars.Worthy?you be the judge. But my DS wont be able to play 3ds games. 3ds can play old ds games AND 3ds games,DSI ware and 3DS ware. 3DS also will be supported for 4 years at least or 5.DS for 1 at best and barely so .So planning for the future, its worth 300 or less.

Now if you were getting a dsi two years ago that would be okay but the 3ds is not a little upgrade. It is a big upgrade. Like going from a ps2 to a ps3. If the ds you have still works and you want to wait a little for the next version of the ds do that. Don't buy the dsi. Its features are not worth it now. The 3ds though is worth it. The price is still undecided but I don't think it will be $300. More than $200 but not $300.

Wait for the 3DS. It does everything the DSi does plus more. It'll probably cost $250 in the US.

Usually the way game companies covert prices isn't to use official conversions since that changes daily. For example the 3DS price is 25000 Yen in Japan, it'll cost $250 in the US and 250 Euros in Europe. From there they covert the prices to surrounding territories. Just look at the launch price for the Wii (25,000 Yen, $250, 250 Euros), PS3 (59,800 Yen, $599, 599 Euros), and 360 (39,800 Yen, $399, 399 Euros). Which has been bad for Europe in the past 10 years since the Euro has been higher than the dollar. When the Wii was launched the Yen was lower than the dollar, 25000 Yen was worth $215, now it's worth $300.

I'll echo what everyone else said, since I'm in agreement. The 3DS is a next-gen system, so it's pretty much guaranteed a 5+ year life if you get it early on, since it's not released yet (assuming you take good care of it). 2 years is pretty generous for any kind of DS support. I think you won't see any more "big name" games released on the DS after about a year from now. Some smaller developers will likely wrap up their projects as soon as they can, then move over to the 3DS. The DSi cannot play 3DS games, but the 3DS can play DS games. If you want longevity out of your next handheld purpose, I would go for the 3DS. The DSi is a solid system for what it is, but there's really no reason to buy it at this point. I would save your money and get the 3DS and launch, because there's a chance it will be sold out for a long time if you decide to get the DSi instead, then change your mind later.

I dont see the point in buying a 3DS when it comes out- as it there are unlikely to be a good range of games for some time (6months at least). As everyone else has said no point in buying a NDSi- its a gimmick and adds absolutely nothing to DS experience. If you wait 6m - 1yr after 3DS comes out price will be cheaper and range of 3dware will actually be available.

It probably won't be cheaper. Somehow Nintendo hardware has been immune to price drops this generation. It took the Wii 3 years to finally drop in price. The DS only dropped in price when the DS Lite came out, in which case the DS Lite took it's price range. The DSi and DS XL somehow got more expensive without dropping the price of the Lite. It wasn't until 2010 the DS range finally got an actual price drop.

Just get a 3DS. Consider the extra $100 you spend as an investment. You'll be able to play 3DS games, which is a pretty big deal - even if you don't see any must-have games right now, there will be some coming out later.

It depends, if your DS is on the verge of breaking, maybe you could get a DSi... if you have a lot of money... if not, just wait. Or get a dslite. I got a DSi, because mine was pretty much busted, and my wifi was being stupid... it's a long story. But I was saving up my B-day money from a couple months ago, and it's not like I'll buy a 3DS right when it comes out... I'll probably wait until my next b-day. Plus there are a lot of other games I want too.

Kawaiii!!! lol, You should wait a little more, because some people regret about buying something that is going to get old in three or five months. Save and wait is my advice.

XD When I read your post, i thought you said your wife was being stupid.

I've played almost all the DS games I think I'll like, so upgrading might be a good option for me. We don't even know if there will be a price drop on the 3DS. Someone on the forums said that the DS got a price drop from $149.99 (something like that) to $129.99 because no one was buying the DS. Is this true?

Since the DSi doesn't have any saving grace like the original phat DS had with its ability to play GBA games, and the 3DS practically has all of DSi features and more, I would say go for 3DS.....

May as well get a 3DS and stay future proof.
