Had a gameboy, still have my gamegear and I have a PsP.  All I hear is the rave about the DS. I have read up on it and I just want to hear from you guys what makes it the portable to have. I loved games like super mario kart, pro wrestling and a few retro others. Just want a few suggestions when I do get one. Like is their a "premium" ds and a "core"?

No, nothing like that. There is a old DS model and the newer lite model though. The lite simply being smaller and more refined/brighter screen etc;

I just like it because it's more interactive..like touch screen...and some games require you to speak into the microphone or blow into the microphone.

Don't caps and just because he has a PSP doesn't mean he a PSP fan. Plus I don't see him saying that the PSP is better than DS.:|

Even if he HAD said the PSP was best, there's no reason for the fanboi to come in here swinging. About the DS, it is a great gaming system. There are plenty of fun games, ranging from platformers like NSMB and Yoshi's Island to RPGs like Lunar Knights and FF3 to rhythm games like EBA. There is only one FPS, and no real fighting games, and the only racing games are "kiddy"-ish (ie, Donkey Kong and Mario Kart, but I love them). There are no violent games and quite a few bad games to avoid, but the same can be said of any system. I have a few reccomendations for you: PLATFORMER: New Super Mario Bros and Yoshi's Island DS. Lots of replay value on YIDS. RHYTHM: Elite Beat Agents. Extremely addictive. RPG: FF3. Very old-school, but good.

Its just interesting playing with a touch screen, which kind of opens up a whole new door to game originality.

There are some interesting games that aren't really like any that have been done before. It's also a great value.

I Myself purchased a DS Lite only a couple days ago, and bought as a starter-game Mario Kart DS. I must say, I am no fanboy of either Sony or Nintendo, but I've been debating whether I should get a PSP and NinDS ever since they've clashed on each other once they've both entered the market. I have no regrets with the Nintendo DS, it is an excellent portable console with a great games library and a strong lineup for 2007.

Probibly the best feature of the ds is that its touch screen can lead to new genres.

The DS has its fair share of good games, a good lineup for this year, and is pretty fun. To correct a person who posted a few posts above me, there are 3 DS FPS's. The only good one, I hear, is MPH (The other two are Bionicle Heroes and GoldenEye Rouge Agent).

Anyway, the DS has a lot of good games, some of which are kiddy-ish. I myself cant wait for Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, but thats just me. Most the Mario games are good, like Super Mario 64 DS, NSMB, Mario Kart, etc. The DS, according the this site, is getting Guitar Hero and Spore, which sound interesting. Final Fantasy III is old school fun, although it could have been better.

However, I only own a handful of DS games, despite having the system since around its launch. Five games plus the MPH demo. I like that I can play my GBA games on it, expecially since I have a ton of GBA games, and only the original GBA, with no backlight or anything. Granted, I would love an SP or a Micro, but the original DS and its backlight are fine for me. Despite the DS's lack of Multimedia functions from Nintendo, the games make up for it, atleast in my opinion.

Unless there is a type of game the DS offers that your obsessed about. After its done I don't know I am strugging to find other games that intested me because I beat all my favorite ones. Except age of empires. I didn't beat that yet!
