I was wondering which one should I have? I have a New 3DS XL, but I always loved the regular New 3DS because of the colored buttons and faceplates. All the regular ones had to be Japanese imported units, but I like the feeling of having a unit made for your own country you know? Anyway, so I got the New XL the first week it released. After they announced this 20th Anniversary one, I could finally get an American regular one! It's just that I really love the bigger screen of the XL, but I really love the cosmetics and portability of the non-XL. Is the screen on the non-XL that much smaller and is there any hardware difference besides the size? Do you think I should switch? Thanks.

Well, to answer your questions:

New 3DS:

  • Top screen: 3.88 inches
  • Bottom screen: 3.33 inches

New 3DS XL:

  • Top screen: 4.88 inches
  • Bottom screen:4.18 inches

A thing to note is that they both have the same resolution (top 800x240, bottom 320x240), so the XL will appear more pixelated.

The other other difference is battery life (XL has something like an hour longer).

Personally, I love the big screen. I don't care about the visuals appearing more pixelated. For example, I loved using the Super Game Boy and Game Boy Player back in the day to play Game Boy games on the TV. So I'd go for the XL, but that's up to you to decide.

Umm... keep in mind stocks are kind of hard to find now for the 20th bundle.

@Bikouchu35: Ik Best Buy has in stock, but I would prefer GameStop. They don't have them though. You think they'll ever restock?

Ebay page is broken and probably get cancelled right away. Just sub to nowinstock to see if they do or better yet call multiple stores.

@Bikouchu35: Oh, I'm already subbed to them. I never thought of that. I'll go add it to the list. Thanks.

I had the same thought when I was deciding if I should preorder the Pokemon 3DS or the Fire Emblem 3DSXL, and I went with the XL for two main reasons. First off, I have big hands, so when I had the old DS my hands would cramp up after a few hours of gameplay, which isn't a good thing when your gaming bread and butter is the RPG, and with my old 3DS XL I didn't cramp up as much, so I went with the new XL. Secondly, I like the added battery power. I have to charge my battery almost nightly, but I was worried that the regular 3DS wouldn't last me the day.

I have both and it's hard to say which you might prefer. The new XL has better screens (if you are lucky), while the new 20th av has removable face plates, feels great in your hands and is much more portable and weighs a lot less. Since I have access to both regularly for easy comparison, if I could only use one I would pick the XL simply because of the larger screen. The smaller system's screen is significantly smaller in comparison.

Love both though, and the smaller one has some really nice face plates. The two that come with the system are fantastic, and I also imported the Majora's Mask, Fire Emblem Fates and Xenoblade face plates.
