Ok, if you havnt seen the combo system on the updated smash bros. site, it says that to do combos now you can jus either hold the attack button or hit it like you used to. . . .example. . .now newbies can jus do Fox's rapid kick combo by simply hold the attack button the whole time. . .

Pretty lame to me. Or could it be a great blessing? What do you think?

Fox doing his rapid kick.

Well, SSB has never really been respected among hardcore fighting gamers other than by Nintendo fans. Ask a Lemming or Cow and they will definately not mention SSB among their top fighters. Still, we shouldn't have expected anything less from Nintendo. They're dumbing everything down so "everyone" can play. Hopefully it isn't dumbed down too far. Online should make up for it though, as long as people aren't allowed to quit out of games.

Yeah that is true. I guess its kind of like the same as them making the C Stick on VS do the quick smash attacks, so it can be done easier. But i still dont think that they should have simplified that much.

well it does say u can tap A as much as possible or u can hold it down. but to be honest, if u hold it down..ur making uself more vulnerable for a 'from behind attack' and possible the hold down A, locks u into a kicking/punching frenzy so u might not get out of it before some clobbers ya from above, below, behind. any thoughts?

It varies between characters. For Fox when holding it down he does some punches. When you tap it he goes into his kick combo. What's wrong with that?

Eeeeh... A lot of my gamer friends that are not Nintendo fans always mention SSB as one of the best fighter ever made. As for cows and lemmings, those are fanboys. Most of them will never admit a Wii game is good anyway. A lot of big league tournaments have included Melee in their game list. BTW the update is not so bad, it doesn't change anything since you can still tap the button like you used to.

oh come on! that's literally making it so button mashing newbs no longer have to button mash. I hope that you can turn this feature off because there is nothing gayer then being pinned against a wall for an hour with someone doing the rapid combo like that waiting for them to mess up so you can break free. if it's like that they will never break free. ninty whyyy!!!

This change is extremely insignificant. Why are people complaining? Nobody I have ever played who is half decent ever uses this combo anyway.

I think it'll be like using the c-stick in Melee; tapping will be faster and do more damage, holding will be slower and do less damage. Thus making it more acessable to the n00bz without alienating the pros.

Why would it do less damage? It';s the same thign just implemented differently so you won't get finger cramp from button mashing :P

Actually I'm VERY good at melee I just think it's stupid how they're dumbing down the game. It means it takes less skill to do better in the game so it does nothing for me and makes it easier for button mashers to succeed and I hate button mashers. Learn to play the game! And when Brawl comes out I can demonstrate my skill to the world >:3

You didn't read the article completely... The combo isn't done by holding the button(unless someone walks into you). Unless you're lucky enough to have someone walk into you while you're just holding the button nothing is really going to be different.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Up until now, standard combos, or button-press combos, were done primarily by tapping the attack button repeatedly.

That won't change in Brawl, but now you can also just hold down the attack button to automatically do consecutive standard attacks.

It will vary a bit by character, of course, but in the case of Fox...

screenshot

Press and hold the attack button to do consecutive jabs.

screenshot

Press the button repeatedly, or just start hitting your enemy to initiate the combo.

screenshot

You'll transition smoothly into his Rapid Kick!

The game will be compatible with a variety of controllers, so I've gone a tad easier on the button pressing.

Of course, each character will have variations. While some may do repeated rapid jabs, others may simply do three slow swipes with a blade.

Meta Knight is somewhat unique. His standard attack is an unbelievably rapid sequence of slices. Just press and hold the button to unleash a rampage.

screenshot

Hee ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya!

This guy needs to calm down.

You're basically pulling off the same combo regardless of how you do it. Nothign will change. You could still be stuck in a corner by pressing the button like a mad man.

no one should be dumb enough to walk into that trap if you just stand there punching. of course the level 9 AI will but no human would.

similar example is with Roy's super death sword B attack. The level 9s come at you while your charging up with no regard to safety but a human will never be that stupid. The only way you can hit a human with that attack is to knock em off the level and stand by the edge and do it forcing them to come to you.

and yes this is dumbing it down because it makes it easier for a newb to play HOWEVER that doesn't mean the game is ruined. It is dumbing it down for people who don't know what they're doing though

Really this is clearly a useless complaint...I have yet to use samus's full combo even though its only 2 hits. not like holding the button is the ONLY method to combos and if you were a skilled enough player youd see how little this update would effect your skill.

Also go slap one of ur videos of you playing on you tube for me so i can see how "skilled" you are.

don't get too far ahead of yourselves people, the game isnot out yetand just because some info is out on the new combo system doesn't mean the game will suck, have you ever thought you may be overlooking a few important details, all you got to do is wait 1 more day and E3 will be here, and you know there may just be more info on the game there, how do i know this justcall it my intuition or just knowing what happens at E3

Button Mashing wasn't programmed into the game it's just what crappy people did. Now they are programming it to make it easier for button mashers to play. You're hearing me wrong I'm not saying it's going to make a button masher a real threat I'm saying it is making the game easier for them meaning it has been dumbed down. Not to the extent where it critically effects the game but it has been dumbed down at least a little

It was still easy for them to press the button like asses anyway. So what's the big deal? Instead of getting finger crapms, you lose the feeling in your finger after holding the button. You'll still be an easy target, it does not make anything easier. It;s just an alternative

To tell everyone the turth how does this effect anyone? We can all still button mash the A if we wont and holding it down just makes it easier for noobs, if it is even easier, because in the end Noobs are Noobs and Pro's are Pro's.

I don't see why you're complaining. If you're a veteran worried about being beat by someone who just picked up the game, you must not be very good to begin with. I don't see this as being good or bad; it's just something else added on. Besides, how many times in a match do you actually use the repeated A combo? Not A-based attacks, mind you, but the combo?

lol, wow guys. . .

I never said that the game would get ruined at all. I jus thought it was something stupid to waste a day to announce something like that. I think that it was something waaaaay to small for an update. Thats it.

So of course newbies that would try to use that would suck testies for the rest of their natural and unnatural life, since a few of us would be whippin dat azz online anyway.

Just a stupid update guys. . .a stupid update

Online should make up for it though, as long as people aren't allowed to quit out of games.ParkCarsHere

Could've not said it any better. Dumbing down was a wrong move, I mean Nintendo should've done the opposite and made the game more appealing to fighting game veterans. Well A never got me anywhere so I don't really care but still... Stupid move from Nintendo, another reason for nonbelievers to mock Nintendo, I mean Nintendo is less and less for everyone and turning into a console like xbox which is aimed at dummies. I mean Nintendo games were once pretty challenging... At least the NES era games.

I think Nintendo did that because maybe some people can't tap the button fast enough to do the combo.

I hope to God that it isn't dumbed down to the point where it's ridiculously lame.

So 'everyone' can play, eh? Screw them! Let them learn how to play like we did! Goodness! It's that simple!

I'm kind of sick of Nintendo dumbing all of these controls down. It's really annoying sometimes.

Plus, the game should have an option to let you use old melee controls, (Veteran controls) or new dumbed down controls (Newbie controls).

That would solve all problems.

actually no if you read the thing it says

"press and hold the attack button to do consecutive jab" as in the beginning of the combos

then it says "Press the button repeatedly, or just start hitting your enemy to initiate the combo."

and considering how bad at english sakurai has been so far, I''d say he meant "press and hold to do a quick jab"

nothing has changed here

i know a guy who sucks at button mashing, he cant even do a frenzy-slicing combo with link, and this makes my fights with him boring. if he can at least do a basic A combo, and i can hapilly do button mashing, whats the problem?are u people afraid of losing to somebody who learned how to do a basic A combo? COME ON, ITS NOT LIKE HE CAN SMASH U ALL THE TIME NOW!!!
