Wario Land: Shake It!, a cl assic side-scroller for the Wii console stars Wario, the smelly, bad-mannered alter ego of Mario. With the Wii Remote controller turned sideways like an old-school controller, veterans and newcomers alike can run, jump and smash their way through hectic side-scrolling stages. Players shake the Wii Remote to help Wario take down his enemies, empty bags of treasure or cause earthquakes. Best of all, there are numerous stages each offering multiple missions to keep players coming back again and again to unlock everything, collect more coins or just improve their best times.

Release dates:

(JP) July 24, 2008

(EU) September 26, 2008

(NA) September 29, 2008

Plot Info:

Within an Ancient Globe (an old, giant globe exhibited at a museum), there is another world called Yuretopia (translator: "yure" = tremor/shaking). Yuretopia's peace is shattered by the marauding pirate Shay King. Queen Melfull and her Melfull subjects are imprisoned. Not only that, Shay King claims the legendary treasure "Deldel Purse," which spits out coins whenever it is shaken. Captain Maple Syrup, the female pirate, observes Yuretopia's crisis from the outside world. Setting her eyes on the legendary treasure but with no desire of doing the dirty work herself, she steals the Ancient Globe and sends it to Wario. True to form, Wario prepares to raid the beleaguered kingdom when Queen Melfull escapes to the outside world in hopes of finding help. Beseeched by the Queen to become a hero to the kingdom, Wario sets off to Yuretopia where the promise of vast treasures beckons…

Gameplay Info:

- The Wii remote is held sideways with the D-pad being used for movement

- When Wario is near an exclamation mark, shake the controller to send him into a tizzy
- When Wario is infuriated after a good shake, his surroundings will crumble to reveal new paths
- Wiimote shaking also launches Wario out of cannons,
- There will be an 'angry snowball' Wario, as well as Wario on a unicycle
- Goal of each level is to collection 3 treasures

The animation will be handled by Tokyo based Production I.G.

It's only supposed to have 20 levels, so we can only hope those are some awesome 20 levels.

20 levels? That's alot for a 2d platformer. It looks like Super Mario Bros. and Yoshi's Island mixed together.

3d gaming is best for me but in my opinion some games must stay to 2d some times.2d gaming is good for some games like wario.we have all seen how awfull all the 3d sonic games are if you compare them with the 2d ones.the same goes with castlevania games and others.3d gaming is how videogames are supposed to be nowdays but if 2d gaming is done right it can be great even today..just look lost winds..

Those are all handheld games. The Wii has 4.7+ GB to work with. If it's going to be a full priced Wii game, there are certain expectations to be had.

You're definitely right about that. Let's hope these 20 levels are jam packed with different rooms, missions, bosses, and whatever else. This is how Wario Land 3 worked, but it was limited - hopefully we'll see it on a 4.7+ GB scale. :)

I think they are long because 20 short levels would be a Wii Ware game.

Yeah it was a fun one! I hope this Wario one is too, though I haven't played many of the newer Wario games..

I really want Earthbound to come to the VC though.. I hate it that Japan got it (and mother 3) but we didn't. D:

They had to take it out of Brawl as a Masterpiece for the American version too, but it stayed in the Japanese version. Wtf is up with that?

When they talk about levels, could they really be referring to worlds? I mean, twenty levels doesnt sound an awful lot, but if its 20 levels with a whole bunch of stages in each, that would be better for a retail game.

Im a sucker for a good 2D game, so Ill probably pick this up once Ive seen some gameplay and like it, but I really hope there are more than 20 stages.

Oh damn! Mischief makers brings me way back, and now that you mention it, it actually reminds me a bit of this wario game, except wario doesnt have ass-kicking robot maids.

Earthbound was in Japans Brawl but not Americas, that sucks. But whatever, I can live with it.

Anyway, Icant wait for the new Wario Land. Its been years now and I loved these games. I just hope its as good as the others or better. I also hope the old ones come to vc although I doubt it.

Michief Makers was actually made by Treasure, and published by Enix in Japan Published by Nintendo everywere else so I think the North American version Nintendo can actually put it on the VC, in Japan they might need Square Enix to put it on the VC in Japan.

I do hope each of those levels is like an hour long or something... not that that's likely.

What's more likely (and has already been said) is that they mean worlds...

We can hope...

The levels don't necessarily have to be long, they should just have a lot of sub missions and the like. Just like Wario Land 3 - you had to find four different colored keys for their corresponding chests in each of the 25 different levels meaning their were 100 things to complete. Just like SMW had 90+ goals, but had a smaller amount of actual levels. We just have to wait and see. :)

But a 2D game on a disc can be vastly longer than one on wiiware. I mean, how many gigs is a Wii disk? Just think how epic of a 2D platformer you could make with that.

Isn't Mario Kart Wii dual-layer as well? I'm really looking forward to this. I enjoy a nice 2D platformer, and this will be a nice addition to my collection.

I don't think Sonic or Castlevania can't be 3D I only think that the 2d ones were better, any game can be translated to 3d with a good control scheme

I still can't believe Nintendo is really releasing a 2-D platformer to a home console. It is such a bold and unexpected move. That's why you got to love those guys!

Can someone please explain to me why releasing a 2D game on a console is a sin? What if this game is 10+ hours long?

I'm super hyped about this game, why are people so concerned about a 2D disk based game? On top of that it is going to have a bunch of Anime styled cut scenes done by Production IG, the people who do the Tales of series. They also did the cutscenes in Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, along with the Ghost in Shell animes and the anime segment of Kill Bill Volume 1.
