http://kotaku.com/5027111/dead-rising-wii-screens-where-did-all-the-zombies-go

Doesn't look good to be honest :( If the GC could handle 128 Mario's all acting independently of one another using a THIRD of the CPU then why aren't there more zombies on screen here?

I'll wait and see how many zombies they fit onscreen. I know it won't have nearly the number that the 360 had, but I think people are jumping the gun here when all we have is a few screens to go off of.

Here is an idea Capcom! Instead of porting a game that was not technically designed for the Wii, design a NEW Dead Rising game that can be designed around the Wii. Better yet, close the Resident Evil story line and create a new story line with the Dead Rising world and characters. Why oh why do companies have to port ANYTHING to the Wii. The Wii was not designed to port games TO, it was designed to make games FOR!

As much as I hate games been ported to the wii I can understand. Its the test the market really to see if a game like this would sell on the wii. Throw a test game aka port and if it sells well or not they will know if its worth investing money into making that type of game for the wii.

I know its a tad hypocritical because we're always going "stop giving us ports rabble rabble rabble rabble" but I'm actually excited for this. Didn't have the pleasure of playing the 360 version and if they make the difficulty a tad easier but that increases how FUN the game is (because the difficulty and saving issue were the two biggest complaints I heard) then I'm all for it.

Also I think we complain about PS2 ports mostly. This is a 360 port. I'm cool with it

They've already tested the water with RE4 Wiimake and RE: Umbrella Chronicles. BOTH games sold over a million. If that doesn't prove that Wii gamers like the RE series and would love to see RE5 on Wii then I don't know what will. It would probably be easier for them to do it as well. Use a souped up version of the RE4 engine with the same controls and there you go.

The whole thrill of Dead Rising was the sheer scale and chaos of having hundreds of blood thirsty zombies after you. Quite frankly, when you take that away you have a game like State of Emergency.

They are the main enemies in the game. And now instead of dozens upon dozens on screen, you have a dozen, maybe two.

Well numbers don't always make a game good anyway. tons of other games give you far fewer enemies, but still gives you tons of fun. I know one of Dead Rising's greatest elements is the number of zombies, but just because the numbers of zombies in the game is reduced slightly, doesn't mean the gameplay is going to be worst. They can always figure out another way to make the game fun. Like more crazy ways to kill zombies, which is another fun part of Dead Rising. who wouldn't want to beat up zombies with a giant stuffed animal or or throw DVDs at them, and I'm sure if they can get the motion controls to work, the game will be just fine.

Numbers matter when the main point of the game is to be trapped in a zombie "infested" mall.

We're not talking a couple zombies here and there, we're not even talking cutting out HALF the zombies. What this is, is a massive cutback of what used to be an ocean of zombies. And that ocean of zombies is pretty much one of 3 things that made this game worth playing.

There are games you can port to the wii, but this isn't one of them. Dead rising was built on tech.

One is a port and the other is an on-rail shooter. sure 2 games each over 1 million but if i were in capcom shoes I would do atleast 1 more test to be sure but thats just me and yeah Dead Rising doesnt seem like the game to port to wii. As much as I like the wii I just dont see it pulling the sheer scale of a game like Dead Rising. Though I will safe judgement to atleast see some gameplay videos

Can't say I am. Maybe it's my combination of poor memory and being a Nintendo fan but regarding the second shot, in the entrance plaza, there are nowhere near as many zombies on the second floor or even the first floor in the game as that picture. The shot's also extremely bright. The axe is entirely red though I can't remember it being like that. Most importantly, judging by that monument there, this is the outside/entrance plaza...entrance, not the paradise/entrance plaza...entrance and the bookstore there is on the first floor when it should be the second floor.

The first shot is more believable, though I can't quite remember those red boxes in the middle being there.

They aren't. Why would capcom, in tkaing promotional shtos for a game, try to include as little zombies as possible?

that could be it and thats why its not time just yet to get all worked up over the pictures but if I were capcom I would put my best foot forward first by showing the most impressive in game screen shots first. All in all its too early to really jump to any conclusions one way or the other.

Capcom doesnt need to test the water with the Wii anymore, they know anything with the name RE on it will sell through the roof, and basically any capcom title with an M slapped on the cover will probaly do the same. I expect the game to have visuals on par with RE4, so I wouldnt worry too much about those screenshots. When it comes to the number of Zombies on the screen, they obviously cant do what they did on the 360, but I think they will come up with something to at least give the illusion of that many zombies, I think the first step towards that was changing to the RE4 camera. Since this stops you from seeing behind you, and alot of the side of you. hence they will only have to populate the smaller field of vision this veiw affords.

just curious but was there a time limit? cause i played the demo and i hated the time limit. i want to have freedom in games like this where i can just have fun killing zombies.

and i actually didnt like that many zombies being around cause i hated the hand to hand zombie wrestling on 360 since i didnt know how to us it since it was a demo :P it made me claustrophobic since everywhere i turn there is a zombie but i suck with the wrestling.

anyway, does the original have a setting or cheat to turn off the time limit? cause i might get it if i doesnt have a time limit.

THE GOOD

  • Resident Evil 4 Styled Camera
  • New Enemies
  • New Items
  • Decent looking Wii Controls
  • Visuals will make a failed attempt to match the 360

THE BAD

  • Making it easier for Casual audiences
  • More Mission based than originals Sandbox style
  • You can't take photographs (360 version allowed photographs)
  • Visuals will make a failes attempt to match the 360

They are taking out the time limit as far as I know, they will make it more of a straight foward affair. However I liked being surrounded, it was fun, even though you know you really only had to worry about the zombies in your direct vicinity, it was still fun to see them everywhere.

Anyone who's played dead rising knows there's enough zombies at one time to fill a hallway with zombies so that you have to sqeeze through just to get past the crowd. What wii is showing here is not even enough zombies to play red rover with in the halls.

I don't care about graphix much, but dead rising was built on tech and shouldn't have attempted a scale down when the scale was what made the game fun.

sure it doesn't look the best now, but they just started the porting process, give them time and they'll start cranking the numbers of zombies up.

I think that's what they are going for, at some points the zombies in the game just felt like they were there to slow you down, the long path to the gun shop for example, that was one of the most irritating places in the game because the only way to get through was to chop your way down. I'll be happy if they reduce the zombies, still keep them so that it looks like there are quite a lot there, but up the AI. Have it so the zombies don't just lunge at you once you've already ran past them, have it so that they hnut you down a bit more, like they are maybe a bit faster, and a bit more threatening, because on the 360 version you can go in a shop, and the zombies will barely even enter, have it so, although there is no time limit, you still feel like everything you do has to be rushed or else the zombies will kill you.

Those aren't shots from the final/released version either, I swear that in the final game all they actually managed to get on screen was fifty which were spread out. At night or in dark areas they managed more then that but there were never a hundred zombies on screen.

On topic though, this Wii version obviously isn't exactly being handled by any of Capcoms A squads, the zombies lack shadows and many effects (lighting mostly) are absent, it's unnacceptable for the successor of the console that handled hectic stuff in Star Wars Clone Wars, Spartan Total Warrior ,Star Wars Rogue Leader and requires more work. This could look better then it does given more time and effort.

Its still early in the porting process of the game so I'll keep my torch and pitch fork locked up for the time being since they still have plenty of time to get this up to snuff and make it right. Now I'm sure it won't be a clone of the 360 port many of us have enjoyed, but I'm sure it'll be a rather good game in its own right and be able to show that games built around the 360 and PS3 can be scaled down abit to the Wii.

If there's one thing I've learned from the time I've spent on GameSpot forums, its to never judge a game by screen shots and I doubt that is the max amount of zombies they can get on screen or even close. I think we need to take a page from the book of Sony and just wait and see on this one before start flaming and running around claiming this is going to be a failure in every way, shape, and form.

I'm cool with it

since dead rising is on the 360, and now its being "made" for the wii, and if it the game sells well, there could be a possibility that RE 5 could be on the wii too.
