There is a lot of chat recently in an online nintendo fan club of a DS2 coming out in summer 2008. I wondered if anybody knew anything about this?

there's no validity to anything until it's announced by nintendo. but holiday 2008 seems right if they were to put out a new handheld.

Why would they want to make a DS 2, when the lite is so popular now? I'd wait until 2009 or 10, if I was Nintendo for anything new.

I don't see a new handheld coming until at least mid 2009.

isn't the ds lite technically the DS2 already? sooo if a new handheld is coming out people should call it DS3...just an observation.

So long as my DS games work in the new handheld, I don't mind. Nintendo has to keep an eye on the future, if it's to maintain dominion over the handheld market.

I don't expect to see a new handheld from Nintendo until 2009, the DS is just doing way to good right now. DS2 is in development right now I'd guess, but they aren't leaving the gravy-train just yet.....

Portable Video Gamer has an article about what the DS 2 might look like.

Personally I tihnk that they will release a beefed-up gameboy before they release the next DS.  And the gameboy will play downloaded gamecube roms, like th earticle says, but the next DS will play Wii games via motion sensors.

I think if developers were to design a new generation DS console that allows Wii gameplay via motion sensors, would it not kill their home console in the first place? o.O

No, I think it would make developers happy cause they could release Wii games as handheld ports, and integrate them into the home experience. It might annoy customers to have a handheld full of console ports (like the PSP), but it would be good for software publishers.
