Depends. It has no after story...BIG DOWNFALL! After you beat the game all there is to do is master each level and find the giant special coins. SO.... Its fun for a while then it just constantly makes you redo levels. so i wouldnt get it but you should research it.
The DS is not complete without New Super Mario Bros ! Actually, I'm still holding back on it because I've heard the difficulty is virtually non-existent. I was hoping for a harder sequel, but since they're targeting the Wii now, oh well.
A friend of mine that doesn't own the game spent two hours sucked into the realm of those minigames. I had to pry him away from them. The game itself is on the easy side, unless you go after each and every gold coin. Also, I found the "extra" worlds, 4 and 7, to be much more challenging than the others.
Yes, this game is excellent. You can breeze through it pretty easily, but if you're at all familiar with Mario this shouldn't surprise or disappoint you.
As for the fellow above who complained about there being no "after story," I'm not sure what he's on about. What other Mario games offered you an entirely new experience after beating the game? (and I'm not sure the color/sprite swap in Super Mario World really counts). I was satisfied with having the ability to play through the game again as Luigi, though it's a bit annoying have to select him every time you start the game up.
The difficulty is easy, but collecting all the star coins boosts up its difficulty. There's a few tricky ones. I don't think anyone should hold the difficulty of the game against it. It's an immensely enjoyable game and if you're a Mario fan or a platformer fan in general it is an essential purchase.
The only part about the game that has any significant replayability is the minigames and the multiplayer mode. The main story is way too easy and short. Not to mention the fact that there isn't any real story anyway...
