I heard it was going to be tough and it sure was. I'm glad they made it challenging. Anybody beat it? Is it easier with a classic controller. Nice game.

I just picked mine up today. It's a blast, and the challenge is just right.

I used the Wii Mote. Are you using the Wii mote or a classic controller? I didn't get to try the classic controller.

You can use the Classic controller? I have the game and it says you can only use nunchuk or Wiimote.
Anyways, the game is harder in some parts of the game than others.

Wiimote of course. Not spoiling a Mario game with an un-NES feel controller.

I just googled it. I guess you can't use the classic. I'm just good with the nunchuk not great with it. Still an awesome game.
It's a nice game, but I think it's getting over-hyped with its technical achievements, and no it's not a must-have in my book. I'm honestly getting fed up with the re-hashing of classic 2D Mario, only thing it's got going for it is multiplayer and nostalgia. I will LOL! if it gets any kind of GOTY/Genre award.

...and completely new levels with a lot of thought put into them, plenty of secrets to explore, a tried and true formula, different kinds of multiplayer, sharp graphics while maintaining a 2D setting, new mechanics that were smoothly implemented, a great challenge, and an awesome game to have in any Nintendo/Mario fans collection.
But besides all that...yeah...
I don't have it yet. What other Super Mario game would you say is comparable to it's difficulty?Vic-Ferrari
I've played all the 2-D Super Mario's and the early levels of this game seem harder than early levels of any other 2-D Mario I've played. Anybody that has played all the way through post your thoughts without spoilers.

LOL! Alright dude let's calm down a bit. I'm talking in a technical sense here, as in how Super Mario 64 revolutionized the gaming industry (unless you lived through the 16-bit era up to today you wouldn't be able to grasp its impact fully), NSMB Wii does not have any of that, only multi-player, hence it's over-hyped nature in that sense, people are just ecstatic a new 2D Mario is around and I don't blame them. Mario hasn't been a technical marvel since Mario 64.

Wanting a revolution with every iteration of a game is a bit unreasonable. Faulting NSMB for not being a revolution is like faulting your cat for not being able to hold a conversation in English. It's a retro styled game, of course it's not going to make any huge changes to the old school game play. Oh, and if Galaxy wasn't enough of a technical marvel for you, then I don't know what to tell you. Either you're clouded by nostalgia or you're just wanting too much.Getting all the gold coins is really tough, ive go some of them but think I will give up soon.

I think getting all the Star Coins is much harder than clearing the courses which they appear in. Some of the harder to get Star Coins requires me to think of creative ways to get them. I was surprised it took me more days to collect them all than it took to originally finish the game, and I lost many lives trying to do so.
I am relieved that I cleared all the World 9 courses as it was a pain to do the latter ones. World 9-7 was the most frustrating to clear, and especially in getting its Star Coins because the surface is slippery.

9-7 is going to kill me. I've been trying to get all the star coins in that one for a while now. I only have 5 more star coins to get in the whole game and 2 of them are in that level.there haven't been that many 2d mario games... Galaxy is Mario 64 with a new gimmick and Wii motion controls tacked on, nuff said.
Erm, did you even play Super Mario Galaxy? I can't remember lack of gravity or complete 3-Dimensional gameplay in SM64. I can go back and play again, but I'm quite sure that running across walls and ceilings wasn't the norm. And if that's just a "gimmick" then you are indeed clouded by nostalgia.
I finished it with my friend yesterday and it was a blast :D (not yet collected coins) and the challenge was fun and really hectic REALLY wanna play 4 player, that would be madness XD
So far I haven't found it that hard. It's around the same difficulty as the older SMB's and NSMB for the DS. The difficulty only became a big deal when another player was involved. The fact you can knock the other player around and toss them can make alot of accidents happen.

There really hasn't been a 2D actual Mario game since NSMB DS and before that I don't even know...maybe a GBA or GBC game? I don't remember anything on the consoles unless we go way back to Super Mario World.
Classic 2D Mario is rarely done and I for one prefer it over 3D Mario. I'm glad to see it.

With the way things are going (especially with the recent sales report) I doubt this'll be the last 2D Mario we'll see and pretty soon it'll turn into milking because the way I see it Nintendo will notice how the classic formula works like a charm every time ergo they don't need to add/make many additions/improvements to each installment in order to impress ergo relatively cheap to develop. That's what I think'll happen anyway, time will tell.

First of all, again I say calm down (it's only a video game). Secondly, there's a difference between someone who's trying to intentionally bash the game (troll) and someone who enjoys the game but feels the need to express his biggest gripe with it, this can also be called an Opinion. My biggest gripe with SMG is what I mentioned on my previous post. the way Nintendo showcased the game prior to the Wii's launch @ E3 made me think that this is truly the next big Mario game in terms of technical possibilities given the potential of the Wiimote, and it was one of the prime reasons (along with Zelda: TP) why the first console I bought for this gen was the Wii (I guess this answers your first question).
However, I was more impressed with Zelda TP than I was with SMG, not much was done to take advantage of the Wiimote, it just felt like the same old Mario we'd come to expect since '96 with new ideas and fine-tuned gameplay, AKA over-hyped.
And just some friendly advice, you're not obligated to defend something you enjoy everytime you meet someone who has something negative to say about it (be it someone with a gripe or even a troll). You have the right to defend it and state your views and why you disagree, but keep in mind that no single human being is identical to the other and every one of us has an opinion. So insisting on defending your views (via replying to every negative statement from the same person you replied to once already) makes you tend to come off as immature and as someone who's not fit to conduct discussions with.
English is a 2nd language for me so apologies if it's hard to understand at points, but I hope my message gets across well.
TBH despite what my sig says im not playing it anymore... the fact that its hard and not that fun makes it a crap game imo. RDOTRYou must have just not played the original Mario games or something because this game is not THAT hard. It does get a little difficult at times, but that's how Mario is supposed to be. You shouldn't just be able to beat every level without dying, that's why they give you so many lives. Stop crying about it.
