New to the DS World

OK  everyone, I'm gonna ask a few small questions. I know i can search around, but i prefer to ask real people. I just got a DS today with mario kart. Whats the deal with the friend code thing. Is it the same friend code for all games?

Also, aside from all the first party nintendo games, which im obviously going to get, what are some good games to get 

1.Friend code thingy: You can randomly battle anyone, however to battle a specific person you need there friend code! You have to arrange battles via phone,i.m, websites,etc. You fc is a 12 digit number. You and your friend must register each other and order for this to work.

2. Age of Empires, yugioh world championship 2007, and all final fantasy games!

I strongly recommend pokemon diamond and pearl too!

Isn't Pokemon 2nd party? Anyways, I forgot to mention the random battle part. You can do random searches and face anyone around the country or your area, but often times to people are hackers and spammers, so I tend to stay away from random games. And if you are into the Pokemon games, they are a MUST buy:DKJAX90

Metal Gear Solid? :? Anyways, I thought Pokemon was developed by GameFreak and Nintendo published it...I could be wrong though.
