[QUOTE="AlmightyDerek"] [QUOTE="goblaa"]What's the point of wii speak if yu can only speak while in the channel?goblaa
It doesn't only just work in the channel. It'll work with games designed to take use of it. The only games so far are Animal Crossing and The Conduit, but there will be many more eventually. The chat channel is if you want to talk to your friends directly while not playing a game to just talk or decide what games you want to play or whatever. The PS3 has a channel almost exactly like that (although also allows videochat). The 360 might too, although noone ever talks to me on that. :( The whole showing slideshows to your friends on the channel while talking to them is pretty cool though, as are the talking Mii's.
Also I'm sure the theater channel streams in video and isn't a download service. It will probably be released only in Japan like many other channels and would work better there anyway as they have far faster internet speeds.
That doesn't make it a good idea. Why does chat have to be tied to a channel or a game? Why can't the wii system just link me up with people on my friend list? It shouldn't matter what we are doing on the wii. We should be able to chat playing any game, together or not. The wii system should be running the chat in the background while we all play MKwii together, or all doing something different. One of us could be playing SMG, another of us could be making a mii for the check mii out channel, while two more of us are blasting each other on the conduit while all chatting about whatever. We are all friends after all, that's why we have each other's friend codes.
As soon as I turn on my wii, it should let me know if anyone on my friend list is on their wii as well. Then it should ask me if I want to start a chat. If I click yes, it then asks my friend for permission. If he clicks yes as well, we are linked and can talk freely.
Why does this service have to be tied to individual games and a channel? Why can't it just be tied to the wii system with an update?
I agree with you on that. But nobody knows what nintendo is up to. Maybe you can go to the channel to sign on the chat. Start a chat and it goes in the backround.
