For those who don't know , Nintendo will release new wii channels, and I'll mention two:

1-Wii speak channel:

Users with the Wii Speak peripheral will be able to access the Wii Speak Channel. Up to four rooms of people (with no limit to the number of people in each room) can chat with each other online. Each user will be represented by their Mii, which will lip sync to their words. In addition, users will also be able to leave audio messages for other users, as well as make audio captions for their stored photos. Users can also share photo slideshows and and comment on them. The Channel will become available on November 16, 2008.

2-Everyone's theater channel:

Everyone's Theater Channel is video on demand service that will offer movies and television episodes to Wii owners. Developed by Fuji Soft, it will initially cost 500 Wii Points to download, with programs costing between 100 and 400 Points to access. It will be released in Japan in December 2008.

Personally, I think that the everyone's theater channel has a little chance of being released in NA, tell me of what do you think.

I'm sure the Wii Speak channel will be fun. I finally get to chat it up with my fellow Gamespot brothers. :P

Or not. I'm predicting it won't work properly, will be laggy and there will be many error codes. I sure hope I am wrong though... I'm just going by what I see.

I guess what i meant was, when you play with strangers, they stay strangers after you're done, its like XBOX or PS3, i should've made myself more clear

You wouldn't be talking with strangers though, it would most likely only be with friends.

The theater channel sounds decent, kind of like On Demand movies and shows.

This is awesome news!!! About time we got a chat channel. I have one question, with the Everyone's Theatre Channel, how are they going to store the movies and television shows or are they going to stream it online?

It doesn't only just work in the channel. It'll work with games designed to take use of it. The only games so far are Animal Crossing and The Conduit, but there will be many more eventually. The chat channel is if you want to talk to your friends directly while not playing a game to just talk or decide what games you want to play or whatever. The PS3 has a channel almost exactly like that (although also allows videochat). The 360 might too, although noone ever talks to me on that. :( The whole showing slideshows to your friends on the channel while talking to them is pretty cool though, as are the talking Mii's.

Also I'm sure the theater channel streams in video and isn't a download service. It will probably be released only in Japan like many other channels and would work better there anyway as they have far faster internet speeds.

That doesn't make it a good idea. Why does chat have to be tied to a channel or a game? Why can't the wii system just link me up with people on my friend list? It shouldn't matter what we are doing on the wii. We should be able to chat playing any game, together or not. The wii system should be running the chat in the background while we all play MKwii together, or all doing something different. One of us could be playing SMG, another of us could be making a mii for the check mii out channel, while two more of us are blasting each other on the conduit while all chatting about whatever. We are all friends after all, that's why we have each other's friend codes.

As soon as I turn on my wii, it should let me know if anyone on my friend list is on their wii as well. Then it should ask me if I want to start a chat. If I click yes, it then asks my friend for permission. If he clicks yes as well, we are linked and can talk freely.

Why does this service have to be tied to individual games and a channel? Why can't it just be tied to the wii system with an update?

My guess is that it will store movie files to SD cards, which means some people may have to have multiple cards. Then again, that may just be OK with them being so cheap now days. Would be nice if you could indeed back up to SD card and then throw the card in your PC and back it all up to a DVD+-R and then play it from there on the Wii. I know some concerns about piracy are raised with that idea.

I agree with you on that. But nobody knows what nintendo is up to. Maybe you can go to the channel to sign on the chat. Start a chat and it goes in the backround.

The theater channel sounds lame. I first have to buy the channel and then rent programs to watch. It's a huge waste of money.

Wii games are written on DVDs. All the wii would need is a software patch like a channel to take away what ever is stopping the DVD playback.

Theader Chan will come over here but much more likey to come here when the DS with video comes here.

now that I think about it, the chat channel sounds very stupid. Its a telephone. Channel based on just chatting about random stuff to people on your friends list and thats it. Also, theres no personal mic so w/e youll hear will come from the speakers of your system or tv. About the video channel, I dont see how it will work well basing the quality of the videos on Nintendo's channel, its nothing to get excited about.

Pretty much.Nintendo's claim that it requires something more than just a firmware update to play actual DVD's is bogus.Although I'd rather not elaborate on the subject, let's just say that if fans can make the Wii play DVD's without physically altering the console,Nintendo can, too.

No, they're written on especally made wii discs. No update can tell it to read dvd discs
